Did Jesus exist? Court to decide

This is not something that should ever go to trial. Also there is no way that there can ever be an impartial judge for this. Needless to say i will be interested in the oucome.

Good find

I don't know about that. There are plenty of people for whom the existence of Jesus hasn't been proven, so it's not too difficult to believe one of them could be a judge. From reading the story, I don't think it's the judge in this case. He obviously wants nothing to do with it.

Considering how much money is poured into church coffers every year, the atheist could make a case the shepherds are swindling their flock if he could prove they were lying.

I doubt he could pull it off simply because, no matter what the earliest churches believed about the product they were selling, most of the religious folks today honestly believe what they're peddling to the masses.

It's an interesting case, but it's not going to go anywhere.

lol... one of the basic things that have been is established is that Jesus did indeed exist, what people refute is if he really was the Son of God.

Yeah, because some people think jesus was just a lowly carpenter and son of a whore that wouldn't admit she cheated on her husband.

That's pretty harsh, but it seems more reasonable to me than Jesus being the son of god. That's just some more bullshit to controll the masses.

More valuable time wasted on some insignificant shit.

Pretty much sums up my opinion of the matter. My fellow atheists need to stop wasting their time and money (and everyone else's) on things that shouldn't matter to us.

Who this does matter to is the agnostic peoples (I'm one of them), although I won't believe in higher powers until one of those higher powers reaches down and bitch-slaps be for stepping out of line or something. I want real proof. Something like a huge carving on the moon saving "God was here" >.>b

It's only a miracle if you percieve it to be so. Your idea of a miracle and my idea of a miracle are two completely different things.

If the miracle was "I should have died and I didn't" or "some person I know/love should have died but didn't" then it wasn't a miracle, it was luck.

Any half decent god wouldn't waste a miracle on one person. He would save such Miracles to do things like make a plane fly through a building instead of crashing into it. Stuff like that.

It's all in the mind. Perception is everything.

That was a bit harsh too. I'm not meaning to be so abrasive, it just comes naturally when I'm speaking about this subject.

It's ok, I'm used to skepticism. My miracle was more along the lines of I was going to lose my finger because it was already rotten and the appointment to amputate it was already made, but two days before my brother prayed for me to Mary (yes, the one you called a whore, you bastard =P) and on the day of the amputation, after everything had been prepped, they took my bandages off and saw that my finger was all better. It had been black the day before, and it had stunk, and on that day it was white, pinkish, still without the nail.

Aaaaaaanyways, I don't know what God wants to do... no one does. Hey, he's God, let Him do whatever the hell He wants, it's His creation. :P

He used to apparently talk to people... when was the last time you heard of someone talking to god?

Hehe, I went to the emergency room when I got the wound. The doctor checked up on the finger every now and then, saw no improvement, saw it was infected, decided to chop it off. Thus, appointment.

I was like three years old, I only remember vague images and what happened in general.

I saw Jesus down in the barrio pushing an ice cream cart. He was with his 14 brothers and sisters. Of course he exists.

Its a joke, take it lightly: Jesus isnt just my saviour hes my gardener too!

On the issue: I'm atheist of the existential persuasion, I do believe that the church (born and raised Catholic) is founded on well intentioned teachings taken to the extreme due to its religious nature (ie teachings are not falsifiable because they are derived from God, making it pointless to even argue on either side). Whether a man named Jesus was real or not I dont know, probably, but the plaintiff is really only using it as a way to say "the Church is built upon lying and deceipt". Nowadays I think the church, even Catholic church, are built upon ideas that are centuries old no more no less. Its not like the Catholic Church is out tithing citizens of Italy, he should just let it go really.
