Did you rename your characters?

I have before. I genrally find it to be a bad practice when speaking to someone else about the game.

I just thought of this tho because I started a new FF VII game last night.
Cloud=Cloud
Barret=Dinsdale (Monty Python thing)
Tifa=Wooty (I don't know why, just seemed appropriate)
Aeris=Aeris

that is all I have as far as characters go so far, I'm Bout to get Rd XIII, but I always name him Nanaki.

How bout everyone else?
 
Omg... that reminded me of the character Wooty on our server. I miss Wooty!

In any final fantasy game that I have played, I have always kept the original character names. A old friend of mine that introduced me to FF7 when it first came out used to name his characters after people in real life. I didn't think it was cool when I found out that 2characters were ex's of mine :) :) :) :)

I always didn't like how Suikoden 1 and 2 forced you to name the character. I named him Stone. Sounded good with the last name McDohl.
 
I used to name character's after my real life friends that I had at the time when I was younger. Now I just tend to keep the character's name's the same.
 
I used to rename the characters after my friends, too. I eventually stopped, with one exception. Every time I play Final Fantasy VIII I feel the urge to name Diablos after my old college nemesis, Tedd.

I finally stopped renaming characters since it makes conversations about the games a lot easier when everyone is talking about the same name.
 
I always kept the original name my first run through with a game excpet for FFVI where i named Strago "Old Fart".
 
also I made changes in the way of:

GoGo=Dumass
Yang=Bruce
Cyan=MrThou
Vincent=Vince
Cait Sith=Useless

I've been trying to think of some fitting names for them all this ime thru the game (VII).

I think I'm only gonna leave Cloud and Aeris as Default names

Red XIII is gonna be Fluffy. Cid is gonna be Murdoc. Cait Sith will be Napoleon if it will fit.

Couldn't think of anything for Yuffie. Any Suggestions?

First time I rented FFIV, there was an end game save file that had the characters all named after mundane English names. And in caps. So after seeing BOB JOE TOM MARTHA SHELLY, I vowed I would never be that guy.

I stick to the defaults. Sometimes they may suck ("Dagger" is just so horribly uninspired), but they're part of the story, so I let it be.

Although an aquaintence of mine did rename Gau in FFVI to my name. When I enquired about it, his response was "because he's an anorexic sick looking tweaker just like you."

I don't think he had any friends.
 
I always thought about renaming Cat Sith to "Cat Shit," but never got around to it.
 
i usually stick to the default stuff except for text speed , which i put on MAX, i hate the text how it goes slow
 
when i started FFVII for some reason i thot when i typed in the name it deleted what it had by default. So, because i thot it would be way kool to see my name in the brand new FF game, i put in my own name. Then the rest of the game i hadda endure watching the name "CloudJohn" run through textboxes. >_<" my friend who i play FF's with will nvr let me live it down [sigh]
 
Steiner = Rusty (you just have to do it the second time through, its hilarious)
Valefor= Iggy (when i first got the game, my friend was over, and we have a running joke about his Iguana named Iggy. and Grand Master Iggy wouldnt fit ; ;)
 
I never really renamed many chars after my first run at FF7. I did the plain names back then though. Although in FF8 I did rename all the GFs a few times to just be thier element-type so I wouldn't have to remember wth Quetzacoatl was... Who knew I'd end up on this server...

Dagger= Daria

I think that's the only two I've ever renamed :?
 
In FF6 I always change the characters from all caps to proper name punctuation.

i.e. TERRA to Terra, etc.

I don't like having my characters names shouted out loud all the time.

Me too! I don't like the way the names just stand out in the text, so I simply changed them to lower case. That's the only name changes I do. Except Final Fantasy IX, and Garnet. I think "Dagger" is absolutely stupid, so I just rename her back to Garnet. Otherwise I leave everyone the same name.
