Great Job Anttaru! Keep us posted with your progress :)

Wow, this is too cool!!!

Btw, I didn't know Anttaru and Drew Tarutaru were brothers!!! That is soooo cool!!!! So, who's the oldest, who's the nicest, who's the most intelligent? :lol:

Wow that looks awsome. What is your total work time on it so far?

Thanks man, i'd rather you say it looks crappy though. ^^ I don't want to be sastisifed with it just yet. As for work time, i must have spent around 12 hours on it, i'm taking my time with it, aside from the fact highend CG takes alot of time. In school for character animation it took 5 weeks to model, rig, animate and render a basic character animation that was 20 seconds long. On average it takes 1 animator 2 years to make 20 minutes of animation. When my models are 100% ready to do anything i'll start animating them intensivly.

One thing i understand is how we work well under pressure, I once had to complete a 3 minute chracter animation in 2 weeks for the Akio launch party. Amazingly i did it, with prouduction animation quality which ain't bad(Prouduction animation sucks ass btw like compare a 3D show to a 3D movie and you'll know what i mean in terms of quality)
This time i don't have a deadline as this is my own free will, I want it well done, and time is one thing it wil take.

Thanks for the feedback Jazper, i really like that Mithra you made. In case you ever plan on colouring it, think about how the light will effect the image, kinda like what Sabia did with her Summoner drawing. Just don't ruin it >< cause i remember you mentioning how you don't really colour.

I live to entertain, but i'll never get to see jaws drop ; ;

Yes Drew and i are brothers, I'm the older one of the 2 of us. I'd say he's nicer. He's never gotten into trouble and never swears. If he did swear around those who know him, then entire place would probably go quiet in awe. I can't imagine he ever had to tell anyone he's sorry.
Drew is very intelligent, and every now and then our minds might spar about whatever be the topic of disscussion. I usually come to the conclusion that i'm wrong and become quiet. He's also more educated than me, and has a nicer seat on the family throne than i do ^^. Truly i think his interest in FFXI's Goldsmithing would have the old man cracking a smile. Drew also wears solid Gold in real life, so ya.
As for me i'm just trying to get by as i am, These days i am very happy, which is better than what i could have said for the past 6 years. I don't know what i can say about myself anymore, I'm calm.

Sleep is very important when it comes to anything. Digital modeling makes for hours of sitting up and slouching over the PC. Sometimes your on fire and that mouse and keyboard is very busy. You don't want to move too fast when working, just quickly and neatly.

- Face fixed
- new lips chin
- Nostrals

I actually duplicated the model and decapatated the upper part of the head, then placed it it on backwards and combined it to the original. I then extruded the the bottom part of the new fusion until it met with each line going downwards, after combining the edges i have a solid peice to now sculpt.

AAAAAAAAAA.jpg

So for now i'll put it away and start molding it tomorrow.

It's not everyday we get to see a Kojack Tarutaru, so prepare yourselves for next time. ('-')/

Its looking great, but im sure nothing like the finished product, and i know wht it feels like working on a project for weeks to have it shown for like 1hr :? ; As well as working under pressure...my drawings usually come out better too, that way (weird).

and just to put my input so far, btw this is CONSTRUCTIVE cristism from one artist to another for those of u that might think something different.

to looks like the ear, at the base could be a little wider, the mouth looks way better, and im not sure if ur going for realism or not, but the yes could be a little bigger, but that of course depends again if ur going for realism or not.

hope u can educate me in the comments above. Keep it up :D :D

What if you make it so good that S-E will get jealous?? :o

Yeah the ear is kinda thin at it's base, along the Y axis. There is a very good chance i will shape it up cause it's appearance has been a re-occuring worry. After i put in the hair, we'll see how it goes.
Reason i made them like that was so it will be able to bend and flex without affecting the geometry, as Tarutaru ears do sway foward and down when they are resting, i want them to be able to slant in all directions.

On the sides of the mouth, it's not too appearant but there is more opening there. The ends are just touching. It's even hard to tell on the close up of the mesh, ( i double smoothened it and it's very congested there, if i zoom in closer you'll see a whole new world of polys there o_o)

On the other hand i'm sceptical about making the mouth too small aswell. It would be easier to know for sure when i add the first blend shape. Blend shapes is a method for making the mouth (or any assigned surface) move, In this case the first blend shape will be a smile. Providing the blend shape is not exaderated, or seemingly blown out of proportion we'll have an easier time determining what to do with the over all scale of the opening itself.

Speaking of blendshapes, i want the face to have as many moving parts as a real face, when the jaw opens up, i want to see change in structure around the temple area. The eyebrow area will be able to express alot of different emotion ( come to think of it, the entire forehead with the eyebrows) the nose will be able to snarl and flair the jaw again will be able to swing side to side, the eye lids will be able to shut and shut tight, i want the bottom eyelids to be able to flex. working cheeks etc... all of that will require duplicating the head and posing it, then assign that as a blend shape, it then can be controlled with a slider. by the time i'm done making them all, it would be possible to cross them over, to a point where i can make a facial expression i never exspected it can do. It's very cool.

Don't think i brushed off your crits either, they really did open new plans at to how i'm gonna speculate the mouth and ears, neither of them are done, meaning i have to go over them again anyway.

I want it to be realistic when complete. however if the render time per frame takes too long, then i'll have to decrease the render for the animation itself. The Gundam took 19 minutes per frame. so every hour i was getting 3 frames... the 20 second clip ran at 30 fps. at the time i had the lab at my disposal, and i had 31 computers render out the project and i got it done in 8 hours. Truly one of lifes maricle plays lol.
Now i have 1 computer, and another one here that runs off of a pentium II with my old Rage card in it. I made alot of models with it and rendered alot with it, but the card is fried, i think i pushed it too hard. it still works except it permanatly shows these green dots on the screen. so "maybe" i can let that bake a few frames. I want the model to be more than a picture, but if it's gonna take a life age to batch render, then i'll have to reduce whatever it making it take so long, which would be something i put there to make the image so. I'll do everything in my power to make it how i want it to be. lol even if i have to send it to the dreaded render factory *shudders*

Then they will have to join me or continue to suffer !!

All jokes aside i would like to shake the system, It would give me a good repuataion in the feild and literally increase my value. The more they hate me the better it makes me look. I don't wish to be hated by S.E. though ; ; I'd rather work with them.

Thanks Flameass. That's what i like to hear, so try not to lay it on any thicker ^^ You know what happens when we get too comfortable with our stunts.
I wonder who the next NA Fireblade member is gonna be who appears in this thread.

I'd tell you about this dream i had but you all would think i'm nuts. I'm running off of a really messed up schedual here, i went to bed before the sun even went down yesterday, and the day before i got up at 3 AM. There are benifits to working in freelance. Like being able to work when you feel like it, so long as you get it done before time is up. I'm just not making enough tho, and i've yet to release my demo reel either. Reason why is because i don't think student work should be used when trying to get a job in 3D. Like the resume itself, Animation demo reels have a universal code to it, "Show best works first, show off wireframs if you want to get into modeling etc".There is also the pet peeves, like

"Whatever you do, don't do.."

* airplaines
* spaceships
*dinosaurs (unless it's frikin awsome)
*and Robots ( no one ever mentioned if awsome would make this an acception. It's so used it makes demo reel observers puke)

Now i have worked on alot of things in the past 3 years, but i have yet to complete a feature clip since my Gundam Project, which happens to be the best presentation i have created up to date. With this current project, i'll use it as the first thing to show on the demo reel. I'll also release it online for everyone to enjoy. I just hope it dosn't cause anyone to have a seizure.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.jpg

One thing i learned when working for Akio, is nobody is really all that big. I get all giddy when i think about what i'm doing here, i'll be recieving fedback from the CG community aswell from the FFXI community from all servers, and what it will do for me in the small feild. When i say the feild is small, it's like everyone knows or has had an encounter with just about everyone that makes it what it is. I have people who work at Core Digital pictures that loved my student work while teaching and critiquing me in the school, and they would hire me if it were up to them. More and more i feel more driven into doing this, and releasing it. I have a firm belief we can shape our lives to our approval, so long as we do what we know must be done. And we know.

Kinda looks like a Namic eh ?

I've actually broken the surface and rebuilt it and that damn crease behind the jaw, keeps on coming back, next time i'll delete the history even thought i doubt it will do anything for it. Same thing happened when the face was mashed up too, and since i remembered this happening on this model before, i forgot to remind myself how i delt with it the first time >< so ok scratch that, it'll be gone soon.
Other than that the head isn't perfectly smooth, but i like it that way, alot of it is going to be covered anyway.

I have moved onto making the torso. Just like the early stages of the head, I i have created a base shape for me to bend up. I have searched frantically for diagrams and refrence of childrens anatomy, and it is very hard to find. I couldn't even find one of the anatomy charts where it shows scetches of a growth process.

Note: Don't think i'm a sick fuck or anything, modeling the character naked means i can give it anything to wear, without ever having to worry about building body parts again, like if it were to wear a harness or a sublagar.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA.jpg

So again all i can do is seek out more Tarutaru images and try to imagine what one might look like with it's shirt off. One good thing i came to realize is how they scale of their torso is in comparrison to their head, without the arms, in the way you can see the Torso itself is basicaly the size of the head vertically, and horozontally it fits inbetween the head. As for the arms, they are roughly the length of the torso, the hands make the limb just longer. I can see it, i just gotta do it. Maybe this part will be done in a day, It's not like the face where it has to have it's own look.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.jpg

Sometimes i just don't have the time to work on this, so sometimes i leave unfinished sections to start another area. Here is a rear view of what i have so far.

- Back of the head needs a better finish
- Back of the neck needs a better finish
- Back is still in progress

The torso i'm kinda working on freestyle with next to no refrence, i check up on how a torso should look. For now i'll give him muscle structure and even throw in a rib cage. Then i'll make the belly a little more pudgy. Once i have all the base shapes, the anatomy will be a cinch to alter into the way it should probably look.

Weeeee ! Already i'm starting to see how fun it will be to animate.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.jpg

I don think Taru have chests like that ;).... We arent "built". :P

You're right False. I just figure i'd add some muscle structure, then round it off when applying the finishing touches to the surface. Hopefully the approach works or else i'll be better off scrapping the torso and making a new one.

so far so good. :D keep up the great work, cant wait to see the finished prdouct d :D b

I thought you left me Aristarc ; ;

Anyway, right now i'm working on the torso (still) i haven't touched it much.

I got a nice roundness just under the chest and extruded the surface downwards on a slight angle. Still lots to do, Tomorrow i'll be updating it's exsposure.

Possibly i'll post it tonight, i haven't played FFXI since Good Friday, and it's been calling me, and so is this.
