OK, so, just imagining for a minute you're on a private forum or something with old-time friends, most or all of which you think you can trust on their opinion/maturity. Is seeking their opinion/discussing things still pointless? The only difference between some private forum and here is that you can't choose who answers and who doesn't.

There's tons of people on this forums who're friends with eachother and goto eachother for opinions...I don't see why it's silly (or pointless) to go about asking something when, regardless of what some may say, most of the people here are respectable and mature people who know when it's time to act serious about something. =\

Besides, sharing stories and viewpoints is one of the best ways you get to know people better. I dunno about you, but I feel the more I know I can get feedback and share stories with someone, the better of friends I can become with them in the long run. I guess I'm just a total dork for thinking that though.

Yeah, I just looked up my past posts about Wongfeihong and Puutah because I remember reading multiple posts that were negative. That's life, I didn't seek people getting banned for their opinions because I expect that bullshit. Anyhow, the negative posts were deleted from those threads. If a mod feels that way here, he should do the same. Post something from your life, you post an opening to personal insult. That's just how it works. I agree it's nice to feel close to people on here. There's a few people on here that I consider friends and I love seeing people from this forum in the game. I /wave, /cheer, /dance with them just about everytime I see someone. You're definately not a dork for enjoying being close to people Ish. However, it is exactly what it is, and the past is the past. If he slit his wrists and went unfound, depending on the angle of laceration and whether or not DD's friend has taken care of the wound. Well, by now he's more than likely bled out. You can hide from reality, fight it, deny it, or accept it. Whichever route you take, eventually you'll have to come right back down to earth. You're not going to find the professional help you need on this website. Simple as that.

edit: just want to clarify that the word "you" in my last few posts has been used plurally and rhetorically. I've used names when I meant to intentionally identify a specific person.
 
In the end this all just seems to be displacement of anger. It's a very real and a very serious issue, a person cutting themselves. However, discussion over the issue on an internet forum is not a very real or a very serious issue. In the end, the person who cut themselves aren't reading this. In the end, negative posts, intentional or not, will not have an actual ramifications.

Trying to play hero and punishing someone for being insensitive won't uncut the guy's wrists. It won't undo the problems he has. All you're doing is setting the standard of the board that we shouldn't say anything that may offend anyone, even if we're not intentionally trying to be malicious.

If that's going to be how it is, maybe we should just delete Reality sinks in. Maybe we should just delete everything except what's FF related and focus on the FF board.

Because the fact is if you can get banned on the entire board over being insensitive on the useless, non-FFXI boards, then they aren't worth it. This is the server board, and by it simply existing, no other server board will spring up. No other board will be able to grow because this one is too big - and therefore it's main focus should be on the FFXI server. For a week this guy can't use event schedule, can't use auction house. Can't defend himself on the flameboard.

It's ridiculous.

And to respond to the concept of being an adult. It's not the banned who I'm complaining is being babied, it's the OP. He's a grownup, he can take it. He even says he wasn't offended.

If you don't want to talk about suicide, and some people have deep personal opinions on the issue... then don't bring it up. If you want people to be only supportive, talk it over with your FRIENDS, not STRANGERS.

You don't seem to understand that people's opinions, nomatter how strongly they disapprove, are fine but that there's no reason for them to be total assholes in their post... =\ Sorry if y'do, just sortof seems that way...

Even someone fanatically against something can say how they can't grasp the other perspective / can't see how anyone'd possibly go about doing that (etc), rather than "anyone who believes in that is a twice-inbred, worthless fratboy vomit-pile who deserves to be hit by an 18-wheeler" or some totally unnecessary crap like that.

I otherwise totally agree with you, though; don't think he should've been banned, mainly because the OP wasn't offended and the he even said sorry. But that's for the mods to decide, really...in the end, I'd rather that forum NOT be babied, but would like anyone who posts to at least be mature about it. I know things in life are hard and not everyone will respect your life, but you know what? We got the FB, where everyone can be as tantrumy as they want. Why is it so steep for the other forum to be, god forbid, mostly civil?

In all fairness, I don't whine often about QCDN's rules - and I never ever ever complain the rules aren't strict enough. I even said before I felt Peregrine's banning wasn't right - and I hated Peregrine more than anyone, while he hated me more than anyone.

So on that note I don't feel I'm being unfair in my complaint. I think if someone follows the rules they shouldn't get banned, and I've extended that feeling to people I dislike intensely.

really it's just nitpicking with the admins decisions. and if the mods were to back down on any issue you know some people on this forum would abuse the example to try and get out of their own problems. therefore, this thread is not only pointless, but really just a repeat of ever thread or post questioning a mods decision. :wink:
 
Roadkill's first post was a link to the "emokid" video. Not only was it not funny (No, seriously, it's not funny. That video has been out for over a year and a half), but it was done in the "Reality Sinks In" board. I think when someone as comedic as Westyle still finds the time to be serious even if it's one out of a thousand of his hilarious posts, and Roadkill can't... well that obviously says something about him.

Oh and you can't help but lawl at the stupid post he made trying to save face. "SHIT HAPPENZ. DONT KILL URSELF LOLOLOLOLOL"

Look guys, there has been many people upset, and angry about how this place has been run recently...that the mods aren't following the procedure with EVERY SINGLE PERSON. aka playing favourites. I have nothing against Roadkill, I like the guy, I've known him for a lil bit too. Shaunessy was an ass, I will give him that, that's why he got the two month ban. Roadkill hasn't been sparkling either. He's posted some mock posts in Good times, and really he's just like everyone else. But that's why I only gave him a week ban. If I do go back on this ban, then I will revert Shaun's two month ban, and will allow him to troll this board. I keep reiterating this point because I'm trying to show you all that we are attempting to keep things equal.

And Rannoch got it on the head too. It's the real life board. I understand that it may be a poor place to post, but everyone needs a place to vent WITHOUT AGGRAVATION. And a heads up, my PMs are always open to anyone who wishes to discuss the issue outside here.

Once Miros tred to make a straw man out of Shaun I knew this was gonna get stupid. Real life board? Fuck you for reading it and getting upset. You don't wanna read what he said? remove the post or dont read the board, as is denoted in the description of it. Everyone is so keen on repeating the description of the board from that little blurb. Too bad it desn't protect you here. It pretty muh just means no meaningless name calling or making fun. Don't call people fa**ots or sand ni**ers. There are obvious lines there to protect people from hate speech. However, I don't think the board was called "Incubater", so people need to get the fuck over themselves. The thread could have gone the complete oposite dirrection had the right people posted first. If the first page had like 3 people say he should have finished his friend off because he wasn't gonna make it in this world anyways, would we even be having this discussion?

And for all you people too dense to realize it. People are making a big deal out of it because it is over kill, and no one wants to get banned over something so stupid. Maybe when it's your ass on the line, you'll finally see it.

I don't particularly care if you un-ban Shaunessy assuming he still plays FFXI on Quetzalcoatl. I don't even care if you unban Peregrine or Windaria. The only people that would bother me if unbanned are people that spam the boards so it's difficult to skip over their posts.

Well Peregrine bothered me a little because his posts were well-thought out enough to occasionally require a reply, but that's life.

What is the answer to that? It would be hurtful, but it is an answer to the OP. Rather than tell the parents, help your friend off your friend.

Does being hurtful itself get you banned even if you are on topic (road wasn't terribly off topic, but was none the less).

Is this a rule you are making up? Are you really keen enough to know where that line is drawn? The moderators are here for a reason. I don’t think that reason is to give you the power to create that line for everyone else.

And so you should do the same and move on. You’re rationale on “If you don’t like it don’t read it” goes both ways. “If you want to be an ass, post on the flame board. Stay away from the others” it’s pretty easy to do if you have an ounce of respect for anyone else… and an ounce of restraint.
