Discussion about this idea?

Well, I don't know. Just like exp parties benefit from not cramming too many people into too few camps, NM campers benefit from knowing how many campers are there. There's more than 1 NM in the game, so not wasting a trip to realize it's just not worth the bother is a good thing.
As for HNM camps... I can see happening... ways to cheat the system... I can already think of a few. Though it would be useful for people lookin' for a Peacock Charm, a Bat Cape, ext... 1 a day NMs only really that are soloable so people don't put LS resources into finding their times.
Of course since it's just an option, people camping VE or whatever can just keep it off if they don't think it benefits them.

I'm curious as to how many of the people who want this have actually sat in a zone for 12-24 hours just to get the ToD of a daily spawn...

Why don't you just go totally anonymous? Then they won't even know you are on, let alone camping something.

They could visually confirm you're there, and it doesn't do me a lick of good. Not that I ever go 'annon' anyway. Only high-demand jobs and &*(%^%$s go annon.

This solution avoids the root of the matter. The ToD problem is the result of a poor HNM design. Making a /sea block would be a temporary solution to an enduring problem.

Political Parody- Don't replace the kitchen sink when the entire plumbing goes bad.

Well, I don't camp HNM's and such, so, I can't say how that would affect things.

Hiding your zone though, it could be a problem with other things, say you want to go mining or harvesting somewhere, before you dump all your items, suit up, and buy x stacks of pickaxes/sickles, you do a "/sea all area" to see how many people are hanging out in that area who are either anon or way too high of a level to be there for no good reason.

That's just the first thing that came to me, but I guess a lot of miners/harvesters wouldn't want to hide their areas, for the same reason xp parties wouldn't want to...

You bring up a very good point. I start any serious chocobo digging session with a /sea of the areas to check where certain high-level diggers (almost 100% JP, nothing bad about that, just seems like JP are the only ones really interested in it.) Miners, loggers, harvesters, same thing. You hide your zone and people come by expecting to see 3-4 people in the zone and you're greeted with 15+ other HELMers/diggers. That happening on an hourly basis > HNM shells/NM hunters being upset about /search ToDers on a daily/3 day basis.

First off the idea was brought up that turning on the anon option should hide your zone but that could hurt possible xp parties who need to do a /sea all of the area in Jeuno before deciding to go to location "X" to xp.

I guess the same argument could be made "how am I going to make money if I can't /sea all NM hunters?". If this was implemented then thats telling players to find out the hard way, find out yourself. Same with finding an xp area, find out the hard way, find out yourself.

So I'd say either make it totally anon or not at all. No other option for xp area leechers.

Why give the people who find good gil making areas a break and not give the people who find good xp areas a break?

Being able to hide your zone.

A very good argument but not one that I think would likely be implemented because SE wants other people to learn from the players already there. This is what makes people want to play more, this is why there is so many players.

If everybody was forced to do things for themselves, no allakahzam, no killing ifrit, no forums, you can't talk to people of other race (alla W.O.W), the game would end up being to hard for many and would not be as popular as it is.

This is a grouping based game, there is no manual, we learn from others.

Sorry for going so friggin far off topic. But i felt it was needed to justify my point

The difference dante is completely opposite though.

If somone does a /sea all of Bibiki Bay and see a shitload of people I don't go, that's a good thing. I have never saw someone say "Great! looks like BB has 5 parties let's go leech their camps!"

Now if someone does a /sea all Maze of Shakrami and sees a shitload of /anon people they leech it and go where the crowd is. This is a bad thing.

P.S. Heya Bupu!

True it doesn't work exactly the same for the xp argument as it does with the NM argument. But the point is the same, they are leeching off someone elses hard work.

Just because they did not go there at that moment does not mean they do not now know that the area is a good xp area for that level, and they wouldn't have known this so easily without the /sea all command.

Without that command they would have had to do a trial and error on all the mobs.

True my example isn't exactly the same in that they are not picking out an individual for example you. But what I"m trying to say is that even though it would be cool for something like this to happen to prevent leeching, it most likely would not because SE wants players to learn from other players. And they can't learn from you if they can't find ya.

I had to deal with somewhat with a few of the other starter NAHNMLS and of course that one particular group JPHNMLS at the time. Sometimes I would decoy by sitting in a zone while LFG or farming there... for hours.

It's nice to see your "rivals" pull up while you are fishing in Rolanberry Fields :p
