Really enjoying this.

Not going to comment on if this should be on PS2 or PS3, or of this is some sort of system seller. Just going to say it's the best Disgaea. If you've played one before, you know what that means.

If you don't know Disgaea, it's a Final Fantasy Tactics style RPG - only it's very deep and customizable. You can really, really get completely lost in the game - and you can powerup everything, from entering your own items and clearing levels to strengthen them - to buying skills, powering them up and unlocking powerups - you even build your own characters.

If you're an RPG fan with a PS3, it's worth giving this a shot - and there's not much competition - but even if there was, it's still worth owning.

Graphics are nothing impressive, but they're clean and they're not ugly. To be honest, keeping with the art style of the Disgaea series, it couldn't have looked much better.

my copy wont be here till next week ... but i always looking up for more "zetta beam" !

It's also only $49.99 and comes with the soundtrack (at Best Buy anyway). Helluva deal for a fantastic game.

How is it compared to the first one and the second one? I LOVED the first's story line while comparatively (key word) i felt that the second's story was much more lame.

I haven't gotten a chance to pick it up, because i felt a little iffy about the story when i glanced through the guide for it like 2 weeks ago. My friend wants to buy a PS3 just for this game, and we don't have a PS3 at work to demo the game on.

I'm trusting you guys here.

The story in the first one i thought was great. Excellent use of sarcasm and while i didn't like the whole "I'm a demon with feelings" at the end, i liked it more than the whole "I'm a demon with feelings" which was the whole Disgaea 2 story instead of just the ending.

For as little time as I've had to play it (only put about 25 hours into it so far), I've been enjoying it very much. I'm still playing the PSP version of Disgaea 1 whenever I'm not at home though, so I might just be a freak. I just find the Item World in Disgaea 1 was done the best out of all of them...and Disgaea on the go is always a great thing.

Quick Disgaea 3 related question for those who purchased it through EB Games or GameStop. Did you receive the soundtrack with your pre-order?
I just got off the phone with GameStop headquarters and they don't know what happened to the shipment of the bonus to the Toronto area, so I'm wondering if anyone else got it from them.

I am enjoying this but i really dont think it compares to the first at all... Its just a combination of things. The characters, the annoying voices, the overkill of item/class worlds and even the humor is just wearing out for me. This is all in comparison to the first game tho... Which was one of the best rpg's ever for me. The game seems more childish now and i hate this classroom idea.

The sound track came packaged with all copies of the game for my store, not just a separate thing for pre-orders.

I am really only saying it's the best gameplay wise.

Disgaea's plots have never been the draw for me. For all I could care, they could not have one.

But gameplay wise... it runs so smooth technically- and its very refined and has more levels of complexity.

Indifferent on the classroom really, it's not all that different than what's in the previous iterations.

People who play Disgaea for the story are doin' it wrong. It's never really been about the story with Disgaea, like it is with most games, it's about the gameplay.

I understand you... And i think you are overdoing it. Regardless of how you feel about Disgaea as a series... Its an RPG story matters. I enjoyed the story in the first game and it was suprisingly funny as shit. The gameplay in Disgaea was perfect.

The third installment so far is slightly funny but in a much much more childish way. Which i do not like.

The gameplay improvements you would speak of are meh. And i say meh with an "If it aint broke dont fix it" going on in my mind.

Now i love Disgaea and this is a great game. I just dont feel the third is better then the first in any way. Do not get me wrong it is a good game and PS3 really needed an RPG like this but this is not the peak of Disgaea so far.

That's why I said you're doin' it wrong. The whole "It's an RPG, the story matters" doesn't apply to Disgaea. It's a popular niche title for its gameplay not its awesomely riveting and dramatic story.

The gameplay didn't need improvements. The "If it ain't broke don't fix it" method is somethin' more games with sequels need to do.

Meh, I enjoy them all the same. However, I've looked at each release since the first as more of an expansion pack, despite not connectin' to the previous game. New levels, jobs, characters, items, skills, etc. just what I need to keep my Disgaea WANT, fed. I couldn't say which is my favorite because of this.

Maybe games like this sort of serve to point out the subjective-ness and pointlessness of trying to rate games. You can't assign a number to grade it, and you can't really compare one to the others and try and say which is best - and then try to argue why. Disgaea just sort of... is.

To me Disgaea is almost like playing freecell on my PC. It's a game with no point that I can easily play for hours at a time, for months and not get tired of - but there are no moments I'm going to point out as better than any other moments. It's passive. Yet I feel no addiction in the slightest. If I don't feel like playing it, I don't turn it on. I'd like to just let this game sit on my hard drive instead of a disc and play it during free minutes of the day.

Do these little changes make it anything other than Disgaea? Not really. It's more that... if you're going to be playing a Disgaea, I feel like this is the one to play. If nothing else, Disgaea 1 pissed me off by random item world levels sometimes being unsolvable and it hasn't happened here yet.

I also feel like the item world and the regular world are well balanced, so that I can constantly just grind away in my items and I never hit a chokepoint and need to continue on the plot.

I dunno if you got me on most of my post. I was rushing and did not re-read any of it.

I agree with the "If it aint broke dont fix it". Which is why the third installment doesnt wow me in the gameplay dept any more then the first.

The story does matter even in Disgaea lol. I like the story in the first game. It didnt need to be epic, it felt like i was watching a comedy show. And it was better directed then some RPGs people claim are so high and mighty.

Same gameplay, which was great added to the fact i actualy like the story in the first game just makes me very meh towards the third.

Osy I feel like on the surface you have a point about the gameplay, but when you play it for long enough, especially when you try to ignore the story and just grind away you'll realize how the balance tweaks let the game flow easier. It's almost like a MMORPG, how little balance things affect a lot, improving the experience - since what we are talking here is a grind-fest.

There are little additions that make it more engaging, and it's setup so there's never a barrier towards continuing to make yourself stronger. Hard to describe exactly.

I'd say RPGs are about gameplay and story equally.. the truly good ones :P but then I look at Level 5's games (Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud) and NIS (Disgaea) and ya.. the stories are lacking in those games, they don't exactly draw me.. but damn, the gameplay is just so FREAKING AWESOME! :D they really capture the pure RPG element of leveling up and stat building and equipping and all that good stuffs. So, yar, I agree with you that some RPGs, it's not at ALL about the story, but entirely about the AWESOME hours of gameplay you get from it <3
