"Do you have room" /tells... wtf?

i agree with OP i hate that it's useless. if you ask that means you're really shitty at the job you play. if you're lfping for so long MAKE your OWN PARTY not ask a leader or another party member or dont ask someone already in a party if they want to party in a non-full ls. i was polite enough to tell a guy someone is leaving when he levels in 1k exp i think it was and he was like ok ill brb i have to go for 15 minutes to check something. he comes back joins party for one fight then is like i g2g and joins another fucking party. so if someone does that they're either going to screw you or suck, and it just become a big distraction in the end especially if you're pulling for that party.

I disagree with this. First off, you can't always make a party, because there is rarely both a refresher and a tank lfg at the same time; you're more often than not looking at a ton of melee lfg and that's it. It's annoying that when people complain about having to lfg for hours that your only response is "well make a party then, noob" like they couldn't possiby have considered the idea before.

Second, when I was leveling up whm, I did ask a few party leaders if there was someone leaving soon. Most of the time I was told no, but a few times I was told that someone was leaving soon and that I could replace them. It was never because I sucked(try finding someone to say that), it was because I was sick of lfg for 5 hours straight with people only /telling me asking for raises or free teleports or to help out with X quest. When you've been lfg for days without an invite, restorting to more direct methods to trying to get a party aren't a big offense.

Sending tells to every party in a zone seems awfully similar to standing in a zone shouting that you need a party. Everyone shows up in a /sea list equally clearly. It's simply easier to let party leaders contact you. There used to be a protocol for forming a party. It seems to have totally disolved. There was a time when one only invited players who were solo. More than being solo, they had to be seeking. And players didn't send tells to all the leaders to ask for a place, the leaders sent tells to all the players, asking if they wanted to party. If a player needed replacing, the leader would do it. Now-a-days, you get tells asking to party while not only are you not seeking, but already in a party, replacement invites to a party that didn't really need your job but the player leaving was too lazy to look for a real replacement, and players stand in zones shouting their LFP status every 30 seconds, or if they have any decency, send tells to every player in a zone asking for vacancies.

I don't see a problem with asking another party if they have any openings soon. Hell this happened to me last night. One BLM sent me a tell asking if I needed a level 65 BLM. I said No sorry, but a few fights later our BLM(who was Japanese) was like "<Have to go> <soon>" Or whatever auto translate she used. With me suddenly knowing this I promptly sent a /tell back to the BLM asking if he still needed a party, and he did. So it worked outfor him. Sometimes people DO leave and by them telling me I know thyeare available and thus will come looking for them first if they can replace someone whos leaving.

In terms of protocol and asking only people who are solo and looking for a group. Well when i try to find a replacement, more often then not there isn't a RDM or BRD lfg. So I go through askingall the solo RDM's and BRD's if they need a party. Honestly usually one will agree to replace me, because replacing someone in a running party is alot less hassle then joining a new forming one generally.

That does make sense...but if they're seeking for a party, wouldn't it give the exact same message that they're available? =/

Unless they're not-seeking and wanting in just your party, for some whacko reason..

Yes Mish...but what if there are two blm seeking in that level range..or 3 or...

It's kinda like when you are applying for a job in RL. The "employer" is probably going to call the applicant that has made an impression first (assuming they were polite and left a GOOD impession).
