1: you're doing it for the sole purpose of having all the teleport spells;

2: you want to melee while being a taru and not having bar-spells against gobs;

3: you don't know how to use Regen and if you like to cast curagaII at the end of every fight.

Thanks.

ps : all this at level 40~

I hate your icon. Some girls get all the luck. ><

name a name Farys. and additionally

4. you don't plan on buying gear and lvling your subjob, every mp and + mnd / int is usefull you damn gimps stop making my job look bad.

5. you don't plan on buying every spell save one (the only spell I will accept a whm not having is Erase until he/she gets to lvl 40 but then you had better bcnm until you get it.)

ps Farys what is that avatar from o.O

me too, I keep getting snickers and co-workers thinking I'm looking at pron because of the hand maid may sig and your avatar. Personally though I like it.

Anyways, don't play any job unless you know what you're doing. Ask higher level plays (more then one too) to get a general understanding, and then play yourself based on their -advice-.

I think his avatar is from a anime series Burn Up W.

What if you are leveling your Wtm so you can sub it on your Bst? :P

Hmm, what's it matter if you're taru or not? Elvaan WHMs aren't gonna exactly do any l33t ub0r r0x0rz damage anyway. And they have less MP so they need to rest more. In fact...

Of all the races that melee while maging, I've noticed that Tarus do it by far the least often. While they have the most MP and need to rest the least. Lame.

Well most taru come to terms witht the fact that they don't really excel at damage.. maybe the other races think "Crap, my mp sucks compared to a taru i better recess and go do something I'm actually good at, meleeing..." XD

Bingo, like when I yell at Hume RDMs to stop using a fricking sword past level 30 and focus on magic. They're like, "What the hell do you know?"
"Well I am a lvl 36 RDM so I know how crappy my melee dmg is."
"Yeah well cause you're a taru!"
Then I go into a berserker rage and poke out their eyes. I rule.

I agree, any job you play you should play to the fullest. I'm not lvling my SMN past 20 until I get all the avatars. It's still at 20 for about 2 months now beacause i've yet to do them.

But anyone who has seen my WHM knows I play it good and equip it as best as my gil will allow.

Pfft, sword? That's what I call too weak. I sub ranger, put up my elite dagger, and go bezerk. Wait til I get sidewinder, I'm going to own so hard. I already out damage rangers, blm, and drk. I hate it when people annoy me to cast refresh.. god like the spell even matters, it's about as useless as the cure line of spells.

Anyways, taru pwn heh as mages, heh. They make amusing melee too, but it doesn't bother me. As long as you know your weaknesses and try your best to cover em up, I'm good. For example , I've seen tary melee make the little extra effort for more str or dex or accu then most races who can melee.

I don't melee as rdm, but you wold be surprised how many do. It's kind of comforting tho, I usually examine a rdm in the pt next to me or walking by. 90% of all rdm suck gearwise and play wise. And yes I'm giving leeway for poorness. I have a sword for coolness and soloing, I use staffs and wands in pt's. When a rdm has a saber + 1 to melee with and no AF, level 40 gear, a str and vit ring.. heh heh.. Well, I guess it's the same for any job, at least tho you are forced to be good. Most cases long as you refresh at a constant rate (and too bad refresh is cheap as hell) people don't really care. =/

Honestly, I don't see what's that bad about a melee WHM, if you can still do your job. Meleeing is as simple as walking up to the mob and hitting Ctrl+A. I use <st> in all my Cure macros, so they work the same whether I'm meleeing or standing in the back row.

Now, I don't melee on all mobs. Any mobs with AoE attacks I stay away from. But against, say, a beetle, I can walk up to it, turn on autoattack, and still act as a WHM.

If you're not curing you should be resting...that's my 2 gil

True, but you can still melee while curing/debuffing/buffing. WHM is mainly a reactive job (i.e. you wait for something to happen and then act on it), not a proactive job (i.e. you choose when to do something). Thus, you can't "always" be doing something (like Curing), there's some times that you have to wait a bit. Maybe the mob is paralyzed, and you're still waiting for Haste's recast timer to run down. If you melee, you can hit the mob once or twice while waiting. You can't just sit down and rest between cures like that, as you'll have to get up before 20 seconds pass. Plus there's always some time between spells. You don't do much damage, but it does help a little bit.

And it's always fun to see "WHM defeats the mob" on the screen.

I don't agree there Sab, after all if I decide to rest and some shit hits the fan it takes a few seconds for me to stand up and start casting cure, and those few seconds have counted before. Now I never melee (I prolly should cause I really need to raise my club skill.....) but thats mainly so that if I manage to somehow get hate the mob has quite the distance to run to me before I start getting hit which allows the tank or back up voker to voke it off me.

Imo, as a rdm, if I'm waiting to do something I don't bring my sad melee to the fray, unless we have a ninja tank in which I have no enfeebles to do besides dia and psn and less people to refresh. I nuke a bit (def not a blm..damn resisting ; ;). Mostly I rest or just sit there, staring. XD or help the healer cure with cure 1's and 2, meaning they will have to cure less, like we can both cure using cure 2's until my own job is needed.

I hafto agree with Sabia, mostly. I usually spend whatever little gaps of battle where healing isn't needed by resting....in some cases I use so little mp that I CAN melee, then rest and be full by the time the next mob is there, but in most cases I find resting being much more useful than melee-ing...

If you're meleeing as a whm, get another damn job!!! I cannot believe you people who think you can melee as a whm!!!

Unless you are specifically in a skillup party, or helping on a mission or quest where you know you can melee and not kill your party or yourself and cause MORE downtime by being stupid, stand back and heal. If you're not healing then rest. One tick of you resting is better than you trying to hit a mob (and probably missing) or hitting for what? mebbe 20 hp tops?

Good grief, gimme a break!!! Are you up and coming whm's that damn dense to think that you meleeing is honestly making a difference vs. healing for a tick or two?

Don't forget also, if you hit the mob for any damage, bam there it gets extra tp.

Sabia is precisely right. Cast a spell or sit your ass down. I think JSoft said it best when he said, "Well if we're getting chain 5 every time without downtime then let the mages melee their heart out, otherwise no." (not exact quote but jist of it)
Especially past level 51 when you could be using a dark staff and that one click of MP is +10 more. 10 MP can do more than 5 rounds worth of meleeing at 50+ for mages.

The only time I can see meleeing make sense is for a RDM who is dispelling and sub whm for status affect heals AND fighting a mob needed to dispell. If by staying up and doing all the status affects the WHM is allowed to stay down longer and they are fighting a mob that self buffs, then they're up anyway. Now if they want to melee they either need a staff/club for magic or if they want sword they have to switch it out when they're casting. Unfortunately people take this to the extreme because they love meleeing but they're too stupid to realize they're in the wrong job. Hence they do crap like sub drk/nin on mage jobs for that extra sword or souleater or whatever. Or they just equip a sword, melee equipment and totally freaking forget about what their actual job is.
