Don't ever kick a person from the party.

What i'm saying (or trying to say) is that we should at least be aware of their nature and culture, and accept it when they react in a way we see as inproper... rather than flaming them, insulting them and embarassing them.

That only works if their reaction is actually commonly accepted in their own culture as well though. Someone barraging /tells and even hopping on mules to continue the harassment isn't remotely the commonplace reaction in any culture. That is to say, I've never once had a Japanese friend go "Oh this guy checked me, gotta hop on my mule so I can scream at him". Maybe I'm just lucky though.

I think Raes said it perfectly like 5 pages ago, if they can get offended by someone /checking them, then we can get offended by /smile, /dance, /cry etc. I mean, the audacity of someone we dont even know smiling warmly (Raes example), dancing with us, or weeping in sorrow over us.

Its pathetic, im going to start getting very angry if these happen.

This person has a mule called Sephriot?

**ALARM BELLS RINGING**

Seeing that and reading all the posts that kind ofexplains what he is and why behaves like that. :nyam:

met the mule too, a month ago

a simple examine when i was in sandoria all the way to the cp guard to get a instant warp scroll.../check /check /check

dont think you can put this all on cultural i think you can just put it on that one person or a few...some people get neurotic regardless of what culture they hail from

Topic was over a while ago
actually. It just turned into a debate.
I don't see how it's your right to tell someone
they're going nowhere in life, over a forum.
A little silly.

Anyways, I hope this thread is officially dead,
the link to the blog was funny,
I guess Rai is a little irrational.

PS:
Chat filters can make for a lot less
drama. I still vote for flame threads to get
locked, I don't see any point in
stirring the pot. Probably the last time
I post in one of these(^^')

[final edit]
I think this person is being
taken way too seriously.
This whole drama was taken a little
far, I can't believe it turned into a 5+ page
debate over one person none of us
care to know.

You're clueless.

Well, i would recommend you start caring or at least start pretending to. Because whether you like it or not, around half of the FFXI population are Japanese.

I wont treat JP like they're too ignorant to use a chat filter, or too fucking retarded to recognize a standard game feature. I have more hope for them then that. Alas, sometimes I get proven wrong.

I think the greatest respect I can show a Japanese person in this game is not treating them like they don't understand the most basic of functions in THEIR game. Any JP wanna proove to me that they don't know how to play their game without upsetting themselves can go ahead and do that. I am using all the games functions to full effect, they are welcome to come join me if they haven't already.

She didn't persist on harassing Uzor because of a /check. She did so because of being kicked from the party. Not that i'm saying its justified, but i thought i'd clear that up.

ok, i partied with this cor in mire about 2 days ago and i asked many times for them to use rolls period or to use their gun, which they refused and kept on telling me on how i was wasting their time, was unskilled, and how beastmaster no thanks. i asked for about 2 hrs of a party before i had to kick them and then they continued to send tells to everyone in the party, not just me about how we don't know how to play, etc. i was very polite all the way through and they refused to even respond to anything i had said before kicking them.

also sorry for no caps/proper punctuation. my shift keys haven't been working on my labtop recently.

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say more than 1 person may be playing this account. I'm envisioning a younger brother or something. Thats usually where the biggest attitude comes from in Japanese families. Probably about 12 or so. Sometime before high school kicks his ass into shape.

The older one is always the ass. Never the younger one.

Might explain how my only experiences with her have been positive. But it sounds a little farfetched

But she did that to me...

The oldest of the males, is the worst, you're right, thats what I was talking about, but younger than the girl, since it seems we believe the character may be owned by the older daughter, but sometimes played by the oldest, but younger son.

This shit's so fucking circular, one side just upsets the other, which makes the first even angrier, repeat to infinity... It's quite probably too late by now for either side to be reconciled with the other, sadly... but overall this:

I accept that the JP might find someone using the /check function of the game to be rude. I can even understand the logic behind why they might find it offensive.

I just don't fucking care.

Has been the biggest contributing factor toward the divide between players. For christ's sake, just the idea it's based on is offensive :/

Again, I'm not saying either party is right, the honest truth is that neither is fully. Not only that, but my friend, a linguistics major, has always said that the borderline yakuza style of japanese speech is typically only thrown around by early teens and in anime. Kinda like... the way Yusuke was, but not really. And "Sephriot"? Oh god, come on.

What's moronic is refusing to accept that in some cultures it's considered rude to do certain things, and that we may not grasp the concept or understand why.

You know what else is moronic, calling someone RMT in /say because the person is /anon, i was on my brd in a manteel. You and your friend go ape shit /checking me, now that is annoying. I was even nice enough to raise the 2 of you after you wiped to pallas, lol.

and an edit not to derail: check whoever you want, it's a game function. My ls is mainly jp, and they check me all the time, i just don't care. They don't if i check them either, except that one guy, ahhh what's his name it starts with an S i think? He used to hop on his blu and come ruin our exp in the mid 60's just b/c he hates NA's. We gm'd him a few times, god i can't remember his name for the life of me ; ;

If i remeber Hiri is in that shell also.... He GM'ed me once at Fafnir for checking him..... Nothing came of it though

No, the biggest factor contributing to the divide between players is that there are people out there who happen to be JP who do incredibly stupid things, and people out there who happen to be NA who do incredibly stupid things, and that people in general like to lump other groups of people together.

Hence the divide.

A lot of JP could care less if you check them, or at the very least don't flip out over it if you do. A very small number of NA get upset if you do check them, though few carry it to the extremes of the more fanatical JPs.

So, in all seriousness, why should I care if a portion of a portion of a group finds a particular built-in function of the game upsetting? Why should I make allowances for the possibility that they might be upset because of a message that pops up on their screen? As I pointed out earlier, if we're going to expect people to walk on eggshells over a particular screen message, then we're going to have to take into consideration that other people might find other messages offensive.

In short, it's fucking "politically correct" bullshit, and I don't think we need any more of that in the world than the choking glut that exists here already.

So.

I don't fucking care if certain JP don't like to be checked. If they're that sensitive over it, they can turn off the message. Or they can be polite about it and ask me not to check them again. But I, for one, am not going to worry whether the person I'm checking is going to get upset over it. I've got better things to do with my time.

How is this relevant here? Besides, I already told you at the time that I had no knowledge that the Manteel was so expensive/non-RMT. It was after the recent changes to Pallas/Alky and 90% of the people I encountered up there were RMT. And if you didn't notice, they're learning how to camouflage.

Furthermore, I apologised.

Replying to a derail <_<

Well, this is... interesting? I don't think I have ever had a negative experience with japanese players other than a few situations.
