And yeah, Nintendo is planning on helping advertising DQIX and I'd hope DQVI in NA/EU to help promote sales

Thank god. It's awesome to see that Nintendo is going to give Square Enix some of it's miracle advertising magic for this one like they did with Professor Layton.

They won't release IX and VI in same timeframe either, I think IX will be around February-March, though who knows when SE will release it since FFXIII is due to come out around then, then VI to follow maybe summer 2010. I hope anyways.

There's a Beastmaster class in the original game and the remake but it can't recruit monsters anymore like in DQV, they altered the slime family as you run into them throughout the game instead of needing to recruit them in battle you get them by talking to/possibly doing something for, they have a use in the Slime Arena and SE wants you to be able to do that as Beastmaster can't recruit anymore.

The excitement's really beginning to ramp up in Japan for Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie, the DS update to one of the most well-beloved games in the whole series. It's due out January 28 in that country, and this week Square Enix teased some of the game's new online capabilities to Japanese magazines.

DQVI's plot is heavily themed around dreams -- you adventure across the "dream" and "real" worlds in the game, both heavily connected to each other -- and the DS remake will take advantage of this with something called the "Dream Confession" system. Within the game you'll run into a place called the Mansion of Chance Encounters; enter it, and you'll be able to create a small profile of yourself and write down your "dream for the future" into a logbook. You're free to write whatever you like into the dream, and when you play it back, the text will be shown along with your character and the backdrop of your choice (64 are available).

When you make a connection with somebody else in real life, that player will be able to view and copy your dream into his or her logbook -- and you'll be able to trade for hers, too. You can amass a great big collection of other people's dreams in this manner, and as the number grows, more sections of the mansion are unlocked, presumably nabbing you extra items or other bonuses.

It's not quite the full-featured adventuring that Dragon Quest IX allows online, but it's a quirky little extra, at least. The game is due out sometime next year in America.

This a pretty neat feature imo. I just hope some ass doesn't ruin it for everyone >_>

DQIV and V both had chance encounter things too, but they also had ingame methods w/o needing to resort to chance encounter.
DQIV had the various NPC's throughout the game you could recruit to your town and you didn't need to do chance encounter to get the max stage, and DQV had the various knick knacks throughout the world so you didn't need to do chance encounter to fill your museum.
I'm sure DQVI will have something similar, maybe log NPC dreams.

I hope so, I don't really wanna play online for collectibles. I just started playing IV and V D:

And it's not even online, it's chance encounter mode, the DS wireless mode.
You need to be within range of somebody else who is in the same mode to be able to swap things/etc.
Easy for Japan, but not so much outside of it.
DQIX is the same way with it's multiplayer, needs to be within wireless range.

Oh thats even worse. No way I'd be able to do that because I don't know anyone else playing these games lol

SE trademarked subtitles for DQVI in EU, particularly Italian, German and Spanish subtitles.

So hopefully we get an announce date for NA and EU of DQVI within the next few months.

Finally. Though unfortunately, now SE have a numbering problem on their hands with Dragon Quest here. IV, V and VIII are not numbered, where as IX is numbered, so...

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation coming to North America on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 2011, published by Nintendo.
No surprise there since they were so pleased with how well DQIX did.

Anyways, long time coming, I've been waiting almost a year for this.

Debut trailer, box-art and press release to follow:
