Just sharing some info.....

I was at the FFxi Convention in Rochester NY, and when the guest developer (an actual developer from Japan) was questioned with the chance of DRG beeing beefed up, they responded by saying that DRG could sub /WHM and SOLO post 60 like a bst.

Apparently, if the drg casts dia during the fight the wyvern will cast cure breath

I know nothing about high level DRG, but i thought id pass on the information

Id also like to add that they DISMISSED the rumor about blue mage in the expansion, and they did take suggestions for new job classes

Drg already can do cure breath from casting dia, but their hp has to be low enough. I really doubt they will make Dragon capable of soloing. Drg have no way of taking dmg without large downtime. Bst's have pets, smn's have avatars, rdms have loads of protection spells. Drg's have paper thin armor. :?

Dragoons are one of the few classes in the game that have the ability to solo efficiently. Pre 60 your HP needs to be at 33% or lower in order for your wyvern to use a healing breath to cure yourself by you casting any magical spell. Post 60, Dragoons have their Drachen Armet (AF3), your wyvern will use a healing breath on you at 50% HP instead of 33%. You can usually macro in the AF3 for healing breath in place of a stronger defensewise headpiece, example:

/equip Head "Drachen Armet"
/ma "Dia" <t>
/wait 7
/equip Head "Wyvern Helm"

and so on.

Get a Dark staff and the downtime is next to nothing, for we have little MP to heal, but for a mere 7 MP we can gives ourselves a healing breath compared to a Cure III and a half!

The defense might not be fully there, but our MP efficiency more than makes up for it.

You can expect to average 1k exp an hour and make a decent chunk of change while your at it.
That is not what I would call effective soloing. 8)

That's what the average pre 35 BST, and it's not much less than a post 35 BST can make. In the good spots a post 35 BST can make 4k+ an hour, but in the traditional "grab EM toss at T" spots that don't have suicide mobs, you're seeing maybe 2.5k an hour at best, with no mischarms or death (which is unlikely).

DRG soloing is easily viable, especially considering post 60 they have the AF helm which allows them to use HB at 50% HP.

so they avoided the question or was that there way of saying they not going to touch dragoon :?: so what other info did they put out about the expansion

Well, when you factor in that a post 60 DRG might wait half a day for a PT invite, and maybe even go a full day with no invite at all, or get an invite only to have the healer leave before camp is ever set-up. Then even something as horrible as 1k an hour can really start to add-up if you start XPing when you log-in and keep doing so until log-out.

p.s.[cheerleader] Lecan is da man!! :P [/cheerleader]

Heh, and people act shocked when I PT with BST. The man speaks true. While BST does have the option of soloing, being in a great party will put most soloing spots to shame.

The only thing the DRG would have to do is avoid monsters that use AE Attacks so that their Wyvern, the key to soloing for them, isn't obliterated, which leaves

Bees
Crawlers
Bats
Dhalmel(lol, drg getting that DEF Down effect)
Beetles
Spiders(Sickle Slash vs. Dragoon go)

The list isn't long, and those mob types are usually around aggro mobs.

Actually to correct you motley, I was at Rochester as well that weekend. They could not state any information regarding if any new jobs are being released in the new expansion coming up. That doesn't dismiss anything. They did take down suggestions of new job classes as you stated. I have the panel discussion video taped. They did what they always do. They avoided the question saying that they can't comment on confirming if any new jobs are coming out or actually anything regarding the expansion they are working on. The only thing they could confirm is that an expansion is currently in the works.

also mot the dev guy said that he saw a drg that would cast dia and the HB went to the tank that was in the party. He did state that you must be 60 with the af helm. Also i think the drg could sub any magic using job such as drk to beef up his melee dmg and still use HB on tank. since according to your subjob determines which breath you get.

I think some drg 60+ need to go and experiment on this.

Its good to know that blue mage finaly was debunked.

lol

they arent gonna give anything away as to the next expansion yet, so w/e u say about new jobs or no new jobs I'm waitin til SE announces something official about the release of the next expansion

Direwolf, nothing was debunked lol

The SE guys didn't want to say anything about jobs or no new jobs on the expansion. Although sometimes rumors about new jobs coming out can get a bit out of hand on these boards.

Oh, we've been talking about it for months. And months. And months.

Just, everyone's so blind to the very IDEA that DRG can be useful, that everyone just ignores it.

WEll then i must have been mistaken, I do believe that they said something that indicated that they had never even considered blue mage, or that blue mage was just a rumor, im not sure but then you have it on tape so what did they say?

Very well said "^^"; At 75 (w/o food or mp+ items I might add), we have nearly 140-150 mp - enough to cast Dia at least 20 times. Healing Breaths are dependant upon wyvern hp so items such as Drachen Brais (our af legs) that give wyvern hp will help. When I use dia, Lumy uses a healing breath that gives no less then 233 hp and has gone up to 288 before (this isn't that rare).

At level 60, as E said, we get the Drachen Armet, which will cause a wyvern to use a healing breath when you are at 50% (orange hp) and use any sort of spell. This is not only very useful for farming, but also for soloing NMs and getting a better buffer. At 75, I can solo up to 2K/hour in XP, not 1K and that is with little to no downtime.

Like E said, get a Dark Staff, some MP gear, and drinks - you can nonstop kill pretty much.

Skaw, you mentioned Defense down? We have erase, which triggers a healing breath as well, though the biggest problems with those are their healing winds =/ can make the fights very long. Best to stick to birds and crawlers really if you're playing solo. Dhalmels are still nice if you have a friend or two along.

Being in a group with another drg/whm on the other hand is another story - I was duoing some very nice XP with Eleibfrid in Ru'Aun Gardens the other day. Next to no downtime and with 2 wyverns, going in orange and dual healing breaths gave him nearly 500 hp everytime, putting him clear back into being near full hp. add in drinks and dark staff...

In my opinion, those who have never tried this have no room to say it's a bad idea.

Wrong, Rones. You overlook our lifeline. 8)

Beastmasters have pets and Summoners have Avatars, yes, but Dragoons have Wyverns and an ability called Super Jump. Super Jump does not take hate off your wyvern, though your hate will be reset to 0. If you get into trouble, just super jump and disengage. Have your wyvern tank while you rest up. Believe it or not, wyverns have defense that is about the same as avatars, they die no faster. When you're ready, which shouldn't take too long, just use Spirit Link to keep your wyvern alive followed by a dia to get your hp back to normal and then re-engage to finish it off. If things are really bad, Super Jump to put hate on your wyvern, then use a scroll to escape - there's still the chance your wyvern will live.

On another note, something I haven't seen mentioned yet, wyverns have three extra moves that are based off of their TP: Remove Blindness, Remove Paralysis, and Remove Poison. These are triggered when you use a WS and your wyvern has enough TP. Say you're fighting something and get blinded. It doesn't take long for your wyvern to get tp (it's usually 100% befoire yours or close to) - just use your WS and it'll trigger you're wyvern to use Remove Blindness.

Well, there are my 2-cents, and yes, I solo as my Dragoon quite often. It is very efficient 70+.

Yeah.. at level 60. Dhalemels are everywhere, not just Bibiki Bay.

I wouldn't recommend this pre-70 by any means, even though it is possible, but I see where you're comming from.

Ohwai- this forum doesn't support that.

/ratesup.

Oh and Wyrm Armet gives HB4 which gives 450+HP per breath. Yummy.
