damage-wise? SAM is likely the more powerful one

anything else? DRG is, because they can gain TP FASTER then a SAM if they have a SAM sub, and they know what they're doing, that is 8)

SATA partner? SAM, just because their weaponskills aren't as grouped together on the charts as much as any other melee.

Actually, I think you have those backwards. DRG will do more damage, but SAM will get tp faster.

no, not counting equipment, a DRG/SAM could be able to out-TP a SAM, they hit faster, so the TP bonus would be faster, and jump/high jump would also really help.

I was unaware Lances had lower delays than Great Katanas.

And im not just saying this, but doesnt high/ super jump count for anything?
Wasn't the question best "SATA" partner? I love partying with thf's gives me something to use the jumps for besides an extra attack.

skaw, blaine

who really gives a fuck?

to the poster, i know you give a fuck, but you dont give enoug of a fuck to listen to 2 people ramble on about worthless shit

drg or sam, just pick one you fucking noob

personally I think warrior, dragoon and samurai are all equal in terms of being a thief's partner. All 3 have their ups and downs but ultimately depends on the player playing them. They could really suck or be really really good.

Warrior - they do huge fuggin damage. Period end of story. Kinda hard to find them some times tho. Very good partners because they can provoke and have shadows up. Aggressor, Berserk etc are very cool adds too. Warcry is nice for hate pull

Dragoon - Dragoon is my personal preference because of the wide array of abilities they have plus they do a lot of damage. Their jumps are very useful for tp gain and damage. If they are good they know when to use their jumps in certain situations. For an example Jump and High Jump for TP gain, High Jump for shedding a small amount of hate(correct me if I'm wrong), and Super jump for when I need to SATA off the dragoon because paladin has too much hate on him(happened to me today when paladin spirits right off the bat).

Samurai - Although I havn't partied with many samurai because I can't make light with them until around 70. I've partied with many thief + samurai as my black mage. What I really really like about samurais is teh fact that they can do skillchains with both a thief or dd and the tank. When I was in a buffer exp party as blm. thief and ninja both took turns skillchaining with the samurai making darkness and light, makes things go by really fast.

As much as I hate to say it, I absolutely despise partying with a ranger because whenever they try to pull hate off the main tank while I try to close WS two these either happen:
1. TA doesn't go off and I end up SAing instead of SATAing resulting in massive hate chaos
2. I lose tp -_-

so yeah theres my 2 cents, basically it boils down to perfence I would think.

...who pissed in your lucky charms man?
and yeah skaw, pole arms do attack a little bit faster. though, they also suffer a 1 TP penalty for it...

Is DRG/SAM still a viable combo? I never see anyone using it and when I used to ask this question everyone would sipmly say "use war it has voke"

Don't put WAR into the discussion. Wasn't asked and not until end levels can you really make a good SC. Warriors and thief both close Distortion so partying with a thief is probably not a good idea.

I beg to differ Rampage > Dancing Edge and Raging Axe > Viper Bite both do really well damage wise. thief isn't limited to distortion onry.

and I brought up war because it can be a good sc partner also

The only time THF isn't limited to distortion is when they can make light with Shark Bite or Evisceration. Until 66 though, it's pretty much just distortion.

go with sam, he can double SC with the NIN and with the thf. unless your sam is a fucking retard who can't figure out how to always have 100 tp, then the easy choice is drg.
