There is an aspect of the tone of your posts that bothers me Divinius. In a community it is
your individual responsibility to know the rules of the community. Also you have the responsibility to know other members of the community, what they stand for and how you should respond to them so that the community might benefit. To me, this is good citizenship. You are right, some people don't know what their shell leaders are doing. A good citizen will make them aware of exactly what is going on so they as an individual can make a responsible choice as a good citizen.
I can tell you a story about this that has a happy ending, sort of.
Before the merge, there was a shell jacking zones. They tried using the schedule but it is clear that the leader of the shell felt that his shell should be above the other members of the community and the shell stopped scheduling. I tolerated the behavior a bit because I thought that it would just be a one time deal. It happened again and I started sending tells to the lead, (who never responded) and to the sackholders. The sacks turned out to be yes-men (i believe you would call them tools), "I dont have any say in what zones we do. Its all up to the lead. If he doesnt want to follow the schedule there is nothing I can do" (read, "there is nothing that I am willing to do") [aside below] Anyway, it was pretty clear from their zone choices what was going on. The fix was surprisingly easy. I /sea'd the zone and sent tells to the lead and a sackholder ... no response. Then I sent tells to three members of the shell that I knew personally and informed them of what their lead was doing and the possible personal consequences (/blacklisting, ignominy etc) for belonging to a shell that did this. This turned out to be the straw the broke the camel in this case as many of the younger members of the shell seemed to be dealing with "a lot of shady crap" as one defector put it. The shell stopped their endgame activities. I think they may be on the rebound, which is fine. I hate to see what I thought was a respected shell end as a social because of a failure in leadership. But everyone should know that leadership can make it or break it for you. Every follower needs to be aware of that and not forfeit their citizenship in the community.
What bothers me about the tone of your posts Divinius is that you seem to be fighting too much for those that "claim ignorance." Don't waste your time fighting/arguing for the ignorant. Use your time to inform them and let them act as good citizens should and choose a leader who cares for the membership of the server instead of the membership of a shell (or only for themself).
If I found myself in a linkshell that was being unfair or unethical to the rest of the community, I would most certainly leave that linkshell. Though given the mechanics of the game, I can't outright fault others that wouldn't be willing to do that.
I can. Not speaking up against unfair or unethical behavior just makes you complicit even if it means loosing something that you want and have worked hard for. What is worse? one person loosing what they worked hard for or an entire shell of people being denied a fair share of what the server has to offer. In the case that I related there were enough people of an ethical mind left in the shell to cause the shell to break (for endgame) when they left. Don't you think that if the first in line for chapeau were kicked from a shell for standing up to crooked leadership that it might ruffle some feathers among the other members? That perhaps the leadership might have trouble maintaining order? There is no reasonable excuse for unethical behavior from a lead or a follower.
As soon as you say, "I can't out right fault others for ..." then you have put a price on honest, equitable behavior. "Fairness is ok, so long as I don't loose my place in line for item X" This is exactly the general sentiment that drives HNM shells to the botting that you detest.
>ME< getting shiny item X is more important than every other member of the communities fair chance to get item X. Even the slightest acceptance of the reasoning is tolerance of moral failure. When people find that they can get away with it, it just becomes a way of life for them, to the great detriment of the community.
The fact is that Dynamis is and will remain un-instanced. If you are moral and fair then you will use the resources the community offers you in a way that is respectful of the community. That means that you get to know the shells and leads who choose to run instanced zones (Dynamis Limbus etc) at the same times as you and you work stuff out some how. You can use a schedule or you can do it some other way. But to do nothing, defend the culpable or act in a way to disrupt others attempts at fair management is selfish and morally depraved. Its best just to call it what it is and then fix the problem.
In regards to your phrase:
"Given the mechanics of the game ..." My shell and I will just take D-Xarc 9/9 days this next month right before your shell's scheduled time to enter and when you suggest that this is a little unfair and perhaps a bit selfish, I will just say, "Well, given the mechanics of the game, I think you are wrong. QQ. etc." There is just no excuse for this behavior.
[aside] My favorite discussion was with an especially toolie tool who said that none of this mattered because the Midgaurdians would be here soon and they would destroy everything with their non-scheduling ways (which I have found to be very untrue). They are loosing patience, as are some of the native quetz shells. But many of you have given it a good effort, which I very much appreciate. Please keep it up.
