Dynamis Losing steam?

Sometimes it's good sometimes it's bad. Doing 3-4 city runs in a row with maybe 1-2 relic drops (tons of weapons) happened too often. The worst was windy, 1 drop and that was at the end of the run.

Or you can do like we did tonight and have extra time left over and killing every last mob we could find in Xarcabard to only getting 1 Rng body and almost enough coins to support the cost of 1/4 of a hourglass...

it is runs like this that turn people off so much to dynamis.
(especially for spending ~4hour just for that)

My first and last dynamis group was quite an enjoyable experience and the only end game activity I ever delved into. Sure it switched hands a few times but the majority of the people were fun to listen to and play along with.

The system the linkshell had was very laid back and trusting, which took out much of stress.

Eventually I did get 5/5 on white mage which was a big accomplishment but not without the efforts of the rest of the dynamis team though. Sometimes people forget that. I used everything but the feet as swaps. And of course I did flaunt off the body wearing hume shorts and an O.hat for no apparent reason.

When dynamis became no longer fun to the group, then it was not worth the effort anymore. The usual tell-tale signs were there. People stopped coming after they got their items along with finding others doing things like meriting instead.

There are some parts of dynamis that could have improved attendance or the longevity such as:
- New areas
- Reduce the size necessary to enter and adjust mob sizes for that
- At least a guaranteed drop rate on certain mobs
- Looting system (in respect to preventing ninja looters)
- Add new items for the ToAU jobs

I had lots of fun in Puddy too. It's a shame that such a great dynamis LS was disbanded. I died a lot, but still, you can't complain when you see lots of AF2 dropping, and clearing city zones + winning northernlands with barely 24 people. Those were some fun times.

I can't see myself doing dynamis again unless it is structured like Puddy.

Ooo Fle! Wish you played more. =p

But yeah Dynamis seems to be losing interest. However, I would say its mostly because it's old game content, and people who do it are already are probably in a ls that has been doing it for 1-2 years now. It's hard recruting people to do Dynamis with all the old Dynamis ls that are already established. Selling those coins too with that kind of competition, added with the JP Dynamis ls(s) who are also trying to sell their coins. Unless SE does some changes it will probably remain. Others in the thread made some interesting suggestions on changes in Dynamis, we just have to wait and see if SE does something.

I do play ^^.

Tues, Weds, Saturday early morning, and Sunday mid morning.

We should do some events together, bud. It'd be nice to play together again.

Put me on your friendlist in game and we can catchup.

Regards,

After reading this thread for quite a while, the only input I have in regards to Dynamis, is that I personally stopped caring about it a long time ago. It's three hours I have to be at my computer, paying attention, without much of a chance for AFK's. Anymore, that's hard for me to do for that long. I get distracted, play with the dog, write, exercise, or just watch TV. Some of the time I'll leave FFXI on when I go do other stuff.

Case in point, it may only be losing steam, not because of being horrendously boring (I personally enjoyed it while I could stand it), but because of the amount of time required to focus, and plan ahead of time. I mean, you have to wait for everyone to show, another 30 to enter, and then you start. While some people may still enjoy the hell out of it, some just don't anymore, and I fall in that crowd. Einherjar, Limbus, and Salvage are freakin perfect for small, organized events that take very little time in comparison to the requirements of Dynamis.

Otherwise, there are some nice things to be gained from it, naturally, like all endgame things. My 2 cents. Yours may vary.

I was thinking maybe if they added some new relic shit like maybe relic grips and other pieces to dynamis that might make it a bit more popular again. But who knows

There's no question about it, that some pretty elite grips will eventually come out in future monthly updates. They won't just stop at the pitiful selection we have now.

Additional items in Dynamis? Unlikely. SE has historically been loathe to improve the drop pools of, well, anything really. I see no reason why they would suddenly do an about face on that issue. Particularly in light of the fact that not every job can even benefit from grips. It's not like when they added Relic +1 and Relic Accessories in the Dreamlands Dynamis zones.

As for why Dynamis would be on the wane... welll... it's a hell of a lot of time, both in the immediate sense (3-4 hours per run) and the long-term sense (you might run for years without getting the pieces you want). Any piece worth having is gonna have a hell of a lot of people lotting it, especially these days when 3-4 75 jobs is more common than not. So if you only see 2-3 of that given piece a year, it could take a very long time before you get what you want, even if you make every run.

I'd hardly say interest in dynamis is on the wane when new players are reaching lv 65 each and every week, whats old to some of us is brand spanking new to others who havent seen everything in this game yet. :)

That actually brings up another point, albeit unintentional I'm sure...

...New members getting stuff way way old members have been after for months upon months. That'll make going to Dyn really tiresome for the older members really, really fast.

That's where good point bidding system comes into play to avoid that. With a points based system it takes time for newer members to get enough points to outbid older members for those pieces of gear.

I recieved my Blm Relic hat soon after joining but that's because I spent every point I had earned for it, which I believe was around 16 points. I only get 2-3 points per week so it took a while to build enough to bid and win. Others didn't want to spend as many points so that is why I got the hat. Really it depends on what you are willing to spend on an item.

Peace,
Shmed

Most shells I've talked with only have bidding or attendance tiers in outlands. This still leaves members prone to losing out on good town drops, i.e. WHM/RDM legs, BRD hat, SMN Hands/Feet, etc.

I know it's the fairest way to go about things, but it's just a natural fact that it can make some people get way sick of the way that works, especially if newer-joined members constantly win out vs. them (worse yet if it's one of those turds who win a relic then leave the shell).

I guess we do not really have a choice when we give new members the priviledge to lot city gear. They need to be "rewarded" so that we will have new blood in Dynamis. If all new players cant lot anything till all the oldbie get their af, i do not think anyone will join that dynamis. But i believe most of the older dynamis shell, they are quite saturated with the cities relic (in the sense that the relic is free drop to those who can wear) and in new shell everyone have equal lots. Those shell that really have problem are the intermediate shells which have free lots in cities. Basically most of the people i know refuse to do dynamis are usually because 1. too time consuming. 2. Drop are too rare. Basically these are thing we can not really change. Usually what make me continue to do dynamis is my devotion to the shell and of course that stupid hell blm hat lol. I believe SE got the ability to affect the amt of ppl joining dynamis shell but if SE really increase the drop rate of relic gear, most probably dynamis might end soon since more people will get their gear( and some will stop doing it). There are pro and con to this. I think decreasing hourglass price and give dynamis new item (AF for new job like cor) will definitely give new life to dynamis.

I guess that would be a problem then. Fortunate for me that the shell I run with uses points for all areas.

I really dont see a fair way of doing it otherwise, if you make it that only older long term members get the rare drops they have been waiting forever for, newer or midterm members will get discouraged and not attend runs where they know they wont have any chance of getting drops.

Its the random factor that keeps people coming, quite often large attendance numbers is what makes a run sucessful. Its the chance that anyone can obtain something rare that makes it desirable to us all, new and old members alike.
