Elemental Compass? Ever heard of it?

I just red on another site that there is something called Elemental Compass that helps you in your synth, by saying what crystal to use on what day and even which direction to face. I think it's something available on the internet, but can't find it.

Any of you have a link?
 
The theory (and Im gonna butcher this) is something along the lines of facing the direction of youe crystal element when synthing. Which direction is which you may ask? Well the is an NPC in each city (in san he's in the ramparts near the Pld quest guy) that says some gibberish about star charts. I never really payed attention, but you can view the chart and get info off of that.

In the fairly limited time when I actually used this method for synthing (alchemy 5-10. yeah, I'm not really a crafting person :P ) it did actually seem to improve things, and there are a few people I know that do craft that swear by it.

One more question ( I know, I can be ennoying sometime! lol But hopefuly this benefits us all!)

Just like the moon and the sun changes position in the game, as time goes by (I know, earth rotation and all... just keep this simple! :) )do stars also changes position compare to where you stand?

I mean, I am wondering if to help synthesis, you need to face a particular direction or the star associated to the element you are using... if it's the later, that means you probably have to follow it without respect to the direction you are following?

Don't know if anyone figured this out already, but please put your thoughts on this
 
As far as I can tell, the stars dont change enough to be visably obvious. That is, that Bright Yellow star will always be south (my prime navigation point). And so forth. If there is something more to it, it is very subtle, and cannot be more than a few degrees of variation.

Btw, anyone else notice its almost VA Year 1000?
 
Here's my question: Do the positions of the stars change? I mean the sun and moon change. Should I be looking at the chart before I synth?
 
Well, I never really noticed, but I will thrust Demora in that the stars do not change positon very much... it makes sense, I mean, it's still just a game, somethings have to be different from reality.

This got me thinking again... yeah, I know... since gardening is so elemental sensitive, could disposing of your flower pot in the direction of the element (pot, seeds or crystal) in your mog house influence the result? Like if I plant Grain seeds in a brass pot and use fire crystal, will putting the pot in the North West corner of my mog house produce bettre results?

Probably worth checking out!
 
So are you to face in the direction of the crystal you are using or in the direction of the day it is?
 
Allright, thought I'd follow up with some personnal experience. Last night, I tried the compass theroy. I started making Holy Water at level 43 in Alchemy (it's a level 50 cap item), using light crystals. I positioned myself facing North West (light star), even if it was earth and wind day (did this for a while! )

Well, within 2 hours, I was level 49 Alchemy, passed my Journeyman test with the FireSword and had little failed synth with Holy water. I made about 7 stacks (they sell back to the guild for profit, 150 per flasks) and probably had 8-10 failed synth in total, no HQ results. I also had skill increased almost everytime, even when failing, exept of course at level 48-49.

Results when facing light star:
7 stacks of Holy Water
8-10 failed synthesis
Went from Alchemy 43 to 49 in 2 hours

My conclusion, it definetly helps to face the star of the element associated to the crystal you are using. The compass also states that if youare facing the crescent of that element, you will get more failures but a better chance of HQ results. Have not tried that (was scared of failure and losing money! lol)

I have also disposed of my 10 Flower Pots in different directions, associated with the element of either the seeds, the pot, the crystal given or the expected results... I will let you know in a couple of days!

Hope this helps someone, feel free to share your experience with using the compass!
 
:D I wonder if I should fish in the direction of water when I fish... {Hmmm.}
 
:lol: Actually, it is preferable, it has been my experience that everytime I try to fish in the direction of water, I succesfuly cast my line!

Also, I have also found that everytime I try to pee in the direction of the wind... well ... something bad happens! :oops:

Seriously though I wonder if it could make a difference if you align yourself in the celestial "water" direction while casting. Couldn't hurt.
 
I actually thought about laqst night and I tried it out in Bastok Market, but I am only level 5 in fishing, so not much difference for me.

Wow, that guy with the star map was really on to something! lol
 
I was looking at the Koolaid Linkshell constellation graphic and they have East and West reversed. Is this actually correct?

Basically their compass looks like this:
