Anyone know if it's better to wear an obi over Penitent's Rope when casting elemental magic? I haven't had a chance to try my rarin obi, and am wondering if I should farm for the other seven obis. Thanks in advance.

Rairin Obi only works in lightning weather or on lightday, and adds 10% damage for each one, giving a total of +30% damage to all Thunder spells during double thunder weather on lightningsday...

So, well. if there's thunder weather in the zone atm, or if its lightningsday, then use it for thunder spells. Otherwise, stick with Penitents

So in otherwords, get all 7. What would a Black Mage need with the Light magic obi?

Thunder, Ice and Dark are the top 3 ones for blm

Yeah, there isn't a reason to get a stone obi, or a water obi..

Light is really godly for temenos tho.

Show me a spell that doesn't have an element attached to it.

So as a rdm, if I have the ice obi, when i cast paralyze, it will increase chance of landing and how long it stays? Cause from everyones explination it just seems like it affects how much damage a spell does, which is usually just elemental magic.

Even if you had all the obis, it would stil be similar to the usefulness of BLM AF2 versus mahatma legs. If it's lightningday and you're casting an ice spell, it's not any good. You need the right obi of the element, and you have to be casting the same element of the day/weather.

A little piece of advice would be if you have weekly events that happen at the same time of day always then you can bank on the item being useful then. For example if an hour after your Dynamis starts it's lightningsday everytime, then you can know you'll get some use out of lightning obi.

Of course it requires new macros to make the obis effective every hour, so if it's worth the effort, and if you can remember it may or may not be worth your effort. For myself it's mostly something for fun to see how high I can make my damage when I just happen to notice it's thundersday and there are some thunder weathers.
