End Game ls's + point systems.

Do you really need the more uber gear to keep playing the game? Sure, End game is crap and a waste of time 90% of the time, but it's either you go with it or not if you have time to waste towards certain pieces.

There is more in this game than going towards the best piece though. Questing, lvlling a new job, skilling up a quest, hanging out with friends and helping others, etc.

If you feel that you're only playing this game to get the best gear for your one or two high end jobs, then maybe you almost should quit if that alone is stressing you out in the game. This game is meant to be played for fun, not as a job and let ingame bosses screw you over in this job.

I don't exactly know how sky works yet since I never participated in it and not interested to just yet, but maybe if you don't save too many points at a time and try to get something after 1-2 months, or even 3 at the most? I would hate to waste 6+ months towards getting one piece of gear you might not even get.

Is it really worth it in the end to stress over and waste all that time when you could've completed many mission, quests, crafting, lvlling another job to 75, or making tons more friends in that same time?

Established LS's should give players signing bonuses to join them, so that they have a better chance at lotting sooner against all the long time members that have hundreds of points.

So basically they should be babied at the beginning?

Yeah, screw those people who have worked hard for a long time with no reward. Reward jumping ship from another Shell with big stuff as soon as they join, and I'm sure they'll never do the same thing to your Shell...

I joined my LS at the end of every list, and I worked my way up and got the stuff I wanted, Haidate, Osode, etc. But I also joined a shell with a lot of people I've known since NA release, and one that has never broken.

Maybe people need to do more research on the shells they join, the leaders, if they've broken and reformed a bunch of times, etc.

And just don't expect to get stuff right away, or complain constently because you're not getting what you want right away.

The point systems aren't the problem the people are the problem, the leaders who run the shells, and some of the greedy people in them, you can't blame a system that isnt being run properly.

On the subject of cat pictures... they're funny once in a while, but I feel that Zaltana totally overuses them, which is just like when someone repeats the same inside joke 4000 times. It just plain loses the flavor.

Kind of like boob pics?

For the record I <3 the kitty pics and think they should be on each and every thread.

Back on topic, the problem with a lot of players of this game is that they feel like showing up to something all the time means they are entitled to items. That isn't the way Final Fantasy XI works. Showing up to something all the time only means that you are increasing your odds of achieving what you want. The game, your linkshell, your friends, etc... none of them owe you shit. Being first in line for an osode in your sky linkshell doesn't mean your sky linkshell can just shit one out for you. You have to keep coming and keep participating to keep your spot, and when the game finally shits one out, then and only then do you get the item.

If just showing up somewhere entitled you to items, I'd have all of the items of my dreams in the game. The reality is that this game, much like life in general, doesn't work that way. So if you can't cut it and you cannot accept the fact that your time might be rewarded with nothing, don't sign up. If you get yourself cut by being a jackoff before you get something, you only have yourself to blame. If you stick it out and still get nothing, that's reality so get used to it.

I love how common this word appears in the FFXI world.

You know, i was thinking, in addition to endgame LS' websites having an "Application" Section, they should have something in reverse. Lets say the person applying can make a small surveym maybe 5 questions he would like to knonw about the shell, and maybe find out some things and see if its right for him/her.

Theres no motivation for a veteran player that has most of what he wants to join an established LS unless the LS can offer something to the player. All these people want is the "chance" to get what they want in a timely manner. These players have been around for years and are not interested in starting from the bottom again.

Thats not how life works, it's not reality at all. When you leave a job you take your experience with you and you don't have to start from the bottom again. If you worked your way up to management in one job you will be able to get a managerial job elsewhere a lot easier. So when someone has been in a LS for 10 months and got nothing why is it different for that player to have to start at the bottom again in a new LS.

I think LS's should take into account the experience of the player and how valuable they will be to the LS in the long run and give that player some more incentives. This way new players to end-game still start at the bottom but old players get a chance to make up ground on the old-timers in the LS their joining a little faster.

As much as I'd like my experience with sky to pass onto new linkshells, that's not realistic in terms of their participation.

Not only do I have extensive knowledge and history with point systems in sky, I also made sure to level up a job that would be usefull. I took Ranger to 74 (and hopefully 75 sooner rather than later) primarily for end game.

Besides my knowledge and history, there have also been valuable lessons learned (by receiving BoL's first w.legs) within point systems. Primarily job priority, which many linkshells tend to avoid.

I tend to think it would be like walking on hot coal or stepping on other members toes. Cutting their grass, if you will.

I have no problem with seniority systems. They are fair.

Sky is not hard to learn how to navigate, it may take some people weeks and others in a few days. Gods are ridiculously easy when it comes to strategy. With Ulli now being more than ten-fold accessible now, it will make it easier for newer members to advance. There is no reason to give hand outs to "veteran" players. I may be a veteran because I understand sky, but that does not make me a veteran of a new linkshell.

If you need "motivation" to join a new shell, perhaps it is in your best interest to look for a group selling their drops. Earlier this week I saw a japanese player shouting to buy a w.legs abjuration.

The motivation I have in my current shell (which I have been taking a break from) are the people who I've met. They are quite possibly the most tight-knit group I've ever played with.

Omg your a genius i never thought about that!

Anyway, to counter that, i dont think LS leaders, or anyone for that matter would like to get interrogated by someone looking to join. Even more so when they are in the middle of something, a small 5 question thread on the LS forum could be replied to with time and patience, and is usually more informative.

Before you apply, there is usually a thread with a few paragraphs explaining the shells goal. Then there is a thread explaining the rules and lotting system, I'm sure all 5 of your answers will be answered there.

If you don't know the LS you are applying for, chances are you aren't going to make it in that LS. That includes any type of shell out there, from end game to social. If you aren't familiar with the people you won't enjoy yourself and end up running back to your social shell about how much end-game sucks, and everyone sees that and the rumor perpetuates into fact.

Sky isn't that bad if you are with a group that hangs out all the time. I've never been a fan of people switching to socials after gods. I always hated to see 30 people at kirin, then the second it's over the same 10-15 players are on.

If you want to earn more points, gain more seniority, go at your end-game LS all out. Keep in touch with your socials through forums and FL. Enough players like this and you end up with quality end-game shells like pers, kaizen, jda, element, etc. The people in those shells spend their in-game time together, so when it comes time to jump to action, everyone wants to because that is their friend who is up for the next item and they want to see them suceed.

When you have a bunch of players switching shells after events, only the core get what they want because they are always together racking up points.

If you see the same people getting items, and you go bitch to your social shell, well...that's your problem.

zaltana; do you really have to continually post cat pictures that really dont have anything to do with the current topic at hand?

lol. Neo, remember that time I completely derailed a thread in the mod forum with a cat picture? Remember, remember when Reeve laughed & thought it was hilarious? REMEMBER!?

Same principle applies.
