End-game, non-traditional tank classes

No. 80 VE is correct. Thing is, VE (Volatile Enmity) "wears off" at a rate of -60VE per second. As it takes almost 2 seconds to cast Cocoon, your VE will have decreased by 120 by the time you finish casting, and Cocoon itself is only 80 VE. This means a decrease of 40 VE by casting Cocoon.

Ahh ok, i knew about the VE decay, pretty much just posted it as a tanking tool. edited the post to fit a bit more properly.

Lot of fail in your statement...Tiamat LS's nuke in the AIR.. not, have mp? Spam it blms and try to Flail!

Enmity stacking is not that efficient :nono:
If you read my initial post on PAGE 2... And understand the enmity generation rate etc, it simply is about capping CE, and spamming VE as much as possible. Haste > Enmity will largely pull ahead on 95% of mobs on this game.

Hell nowadays on Pld/Nin I Only ever get hit during Wing on Faf if I fuck up, and the BLM's never pull hate even with 2600+ Bursts. Nin/Drk same shit, takes slightly longer to hit that cap during intial zergs on Omega and such, but ask my limbus shell when not one person can pull it off me for the remaining 25minutes.

Nin/Drk
-Kite 19-22% Haste
-Enmity 19+4Merits

Stacking Enmity is fucking worthless in most gear slots where you cannot obtain haste. The only exception to when Enmity > Haste is when you cap your magical haste @50% (March+March+Haste+15% Gear).

Only argument you may have would be with KB, on Pld/War I would have to do the math on Trance Belt <-> Speed Belt. However my guess is that SB will pull ahead.

ANY JOB CAN TANK IF THEY UNDERSTAND THE GAME DYNAMICS

ex: Whm/Nin Tiamat spamming Barspells... If it hits all 6 = Provoke base ve
Behold how Rdm/Nin the ultimate tank imo
Nin/Drk...Drk/Nin etc. I think you get my point

FYI once you cap CE, VE only need to generate 3600 VE minute to stay capped. :omg: :omg: :omg: :omg:

I'm sorry who are you? Some no name who talks a bunch of shit about end game tanking but is never actually there. Your blms can't pull hate because they suck.

Faf and Omega are jokes to tank and shouldn't even be discussed. Show some Timmy screenies of your flawless tanking from this server. Oh wait you probably got none. Maybe some loljorm pics?

This wasn't a flameboard thread so on this forum you should talk to others the way you want to be talked to. As you'll see I'm being a huge dick like you for no apparent reason.

Just thought I'd jump in and comment on DNC's tanking ability. I haven't had a chance to test it versus anything serious (HNM or alike) and just hit 75 yesterday, but at least during campaign I've had no problems tanking even some of the harder NMs.

Few notes:

The evasion of a 75 Dancer is very significant. With the right few pieces of gear, this can be boosted even further.

It has 3 subtle blow traits to reduce TP given to the monster. It's not a ton of SB, but it's a nice touch.

The cures pull significant hate (the cure 5 equivalent isn't a low enmity cure, either). The curaga especially, and it has fairly low TP usage.

Stutter Step->Violent Flourish is a pretty reliable stun for casting ichi.

DNC's provoke jr. while not being as strong as provoke still can be nice for hate.

Wild Flourish -> single weaponskill skillchains as soon as your melee have TP. (WF->Gekko makes 1 WS fragmentation, for example). It has a 20 second recast so you could literally have a TA skillchain on you every 20 seconds or so. And since it doesn't use TP directly (2 finishing moves) it's possible to use it fairly often barring how many self cures you need.

Can't think of much else for the moment, but those are some thoughts/ideas I've had so far. Depending on how the job is tweaked, it could potentially be a pretty reasonable tank.

You know I really don't want to get involved in this. But I will say 3 things:

1) you are so big on people knowing you, personally I have never heard of you or even seen you. And if you don't know who the people you're insulting are, you've pretty much been a hypocrite tis entire time.

2) I don't know if you think you're funny, or that you're "1-upping" your opponents in this argument, but you are really actually looking like a tool.

3) In your attemp to berate Crosis in his "illiteracy" you failed to read that the "Main" slot under yoru avatar is used for your Main job in game, as stated in the control pannel.

So in short, calm down, relax, and as you stated, it's just a game. If you enjoy playing it your way so be it. Both ways are obviously working.

I believe that you are the one having trouble reading. Here I'll quote myself for you.

There was nowhere in my post that said I didn't know your name was Itto, I said I didn't know you. Your name is Karma on this forum, that's who I'll quote when I reply genius. I still don't know who the hell you are and neither does anybody else. Karma, Itto, whatever the hell your name is.

lrn2comprehend.

Can't wait for your and Tomasellos Rdm/Nin tanking information. Please keep us updated!

No offense, RDM/NIN already is viable over NIN/DRK.

Wow this is getting a little heated lol. Let’s just calm down and not ruin an otherwise interesting topic. Me and Itto were mainly debating the feasibility of a RDM/NIN in a kiting situation. When we do Omega, for example, there is obviously a lot of running involved and because of RDM/NIN’s lack of hate spike spells they have to do far more casting to maintain the same hate which can become very difficult in a kite.

It’s a fact NIN/DRK or RDM/NIN can hold hate on a stationary HNM well. I’m not going to say one is better then other on a stationary mob because they can both get the job done just as well on most HNMs. No one really knows that because no one gives them a chance on this server.

The really tragedy is the fact that PLD/NIN comes in 3rd in hate generation and if I were SE I would do something to fix that like they did when they patched Mazurka because I don’t think it’s very fair to that job what so ever.

RDM in a kiting situation works fairly well, even if PLD's are stronger i think. But im not sure why you would really kite Omega. He cant double attack, and with elegy he becomes almost retardedly easy to blink. If you wanna make it even easier, you can just put 2 tanks at a 20 distance from eachother and just Ping Pong him.

PLD may be last in enmity generation, but they no doubt have other strenghts that makes them a very strong tank class. In any decent setup rdm/nin and nin/drk may outperform pld/nin. But when your setup is less then optimal, pld/nin really shines, due to their ability to take a beating. RDM and NIN both are pretty paper-thin. I would never dream to claim say Cerberus with a rdm solo tank only, unless i had some hefty support. Even then i would be iffy. On the other hand i claimed Cerb with PLD and BRD only, and held it upwards to 15 minutes. When that elegy wears and Cerb starts to triple attack, you dont really wanna be paper-thin and/or unable to cure yourself.

We just zerg him down to 5% then kite him the rest of the time so we can farm the chips. I'm pretty sure we used the same strategy when I was in your limbus shell lol. I suppose now that you mention it we could ping pong him too. Doesn't really matter he's not very hard to kill.

well to be technical, the rules say that if your qcdn name differs from your character name, it belongs in your signature.

people obliterating locations/jobs/etc on the left sides leave people to skip what that may read.

Really no need to "Ping Pong", gives me something to do for 25min :shok:

I had ruled out kiting because of the lack of range with a lot of blue spells but the Exuviation thinking is great and pretty much solves that issue. One question what range do you have to be in and perform Exuviation for it to gain the CE/VE? In other words I'm sure you cant perform it at '50 and expect to get hate... there has to be a range in which the action needs to be performed for it to have an effect on the NM's hate... perhaps '25 or less?

Also thanks for posting Kaeko and update your blog already! It's been since late November!!!

Anyone have an answer for the bolded question... Uzor, Ewok, Icewolf, Kaeko, anyone?

The OP also mentions for other jobs, not RDM exclusively, in the last line of the post.

Have you read all the posts I have made in this forum in regards to VE/CE generation?

-PLD
-NIN
-DRK
-RDM...

If I knew more about BLU I would do a chart for BLU ce/ve with recasts etc.

Distance
-Distances between 0'-20' at which an action is used relative to the mob does not affect the hate gained.
-If an action is performed on a player at a distance 25.0' or greater from the mob, no Enmity is gained.
