{English}PT{No thanks.}

I've seen a lot of JP players worse than NA players in a pty or elsewhere.

Isn't there usually something wrong with the pty and exp/hr if you're chatting a lot and distracting others in the pty? You don't really need to chat in an exp pty anyways, that's what your LS and friends to /t are all about. ^^

That JPonry is annoying though, but sometimes a JP player had bad experience with NA only ptys, or they all have their own reasons.

When I form parties I and want to invite a JP, I almost alway try to get 3 JP and 3 NA. That way you have someone to talk to. I also find that if you use the auto-translate function creatively and throw in bits and pieces of romaji, 6/7 JP will respond positively. There's always gonna be jerks and stuff, so what? Ignore them and move along.

this is what I attempt to do, I always tell jp how many I have in my pt so they wont be alone

No doubt it's been a topic on the flameboard before, but I couldn't find it. Can anyone enlighten me as to why 90% of Japanese players won't party with foreigners? Is it because they think it's just rude to party with us since they can't speak our language? It's not like we treat them the same way. How many times do you see English speakers saying {Japanese}PT{No thanks.}?

Bleh.

/whineoff <_<

Oh you stupid round eye punchy!

:-p

Here's what you do, You lvl Brd to lvl 75, then seek on JP hours. (Heck you don't even havta seek half the time) Your bound to get one invite from a jp player.

Then you claiming tell them you don't speak any German, Party No Thanks, Good bye ^.^

Also, saying you don't speak chocobo works too. =P God knows how long ive been doing that because I simply do not wish to merit, or they truely ask me too late.

If it's any colsolation...
After leveling 3 out of the 5 'worst jobs to get parties on' I know a thing or two about a thing or two...

When dealing with the japanese, you just have to think about a few things:

1) What is your job, and would you garner the same disrespect/denial from an NA as well and you're just using the laguage thing as a self-denial tool?

2) What is thier job? Are they usually a high demand job that can afford to say "no"?

3) Have you tried just asking em in english?

In my experience, when I hear people whine about this, it's usually some guy leveling a Drk, Drg, Pup, Thf, or Sam. and they can't figure out why they can't get the random JP Brd, Rdm, Whm, Nin, War, Mnk, or Cor to join; yet they totally ignore that all the NA Brd, Whm, Rdm, Nin, War, Mnk and Cor are ignoring em too. The facts are this, you're a less desired job, juat deal with it, you'll eventually get to 75, it's just going to be harder than say if you leveled Brd, Rdm, Whm, Nin, War, Mnk, or Cor.

Also keep in mind your reputation and your Job availability. If yoiu are seeking and there's a lot of good or desireable jobs seeking too, yoiu will likely get ignored. If you are a level 73 Drg, and there's like 25 merit level jobs seeking, be wary you will likely not get what you want.

Those are the facts, nationality aside.

As for trying to just grab a JP that's up and seeking, ironically, i find just speaking straight english, and no auto-trans has the best chance. Idk what that's about, but I can say (as other have) that I usually feel a little aprehensive when I get an Auto-Trans invite... 80% of the time it's a Gil seller... and the other 20% of the time it's some dipshit.

Don't get too discouraged. People get a little comfortable with seeing the same people repeatedly. As soon as you exp more, or more frequently, and are not an ass, people remember you, language or not, and the invites will come.

It's funny how a JP will have "JP ONLY" in their search comment, but when you tell them you have a bard, they'll party with you.

Also I've made parties for as long as I've been playing, and I had no idea "{Hello!} {Party} {Do you need it?}" was rude. Good to know...although I wish someone would have sent me a tell if they thought this.

Um... I'm not a gilseller and I don't think I'm a dipshit. I always say something like {Excuse me} {Experience points} {Do you need it?} and 9/10 times i'll get a {Yes, please} back from both NA and JP players alike. Sometimes I'll get asked what is the pt setup and/or where we are exp'ing and I will fill them in.

I level'd whm and blm for 20-30 levels each in JP primetime and that was pretty much how i was asked to party from them so I just took it as being respectful.

Peace,
Shmed

Yeah, same here.

I've met plenty of people ingame who don't read english very well, and prefer the Auto-Translate method.

My typical invite looks like this:

{Experience points} {Do you need it?} Party in {zone}. Want in?

Then, if they ask, I fill them in on the specifics.

(gah, fucking "edit" button)

How does this make someone seem like a gilseller or a dipshit?

Bleh...a lot of the time the "English Too Weak" phrase is referring to themselves, not the language in general. Most of the people here pretty much got it right - many just don't want to deal with the communication troubles that may arise or just the fact that they have no one to talk to.

Yeah, there's many racists out there, but same can be said for both sides, in regards to just about everything (people good at jobs, bad at jobs, geniuses, goofballs, idiots, community rejects)

Also, the auto-translator is a piece of sh-!t in many cases. It doesn't translate proper etiquette or meaning at MANY times so that in itself can cause some big problems.

I'll usually have at least one JP in party who can speak decent English or understand the auto translator. If a JP turns me down and it's a critical job or the last person to fill a party, I'll just transfer lead to the existing JP in my party and have *him* invite the JP onry player.

I then make it a point to /grin at the offending player when he finally gets to camp and I have leadership transferred back to me. :D

I don't really chat while in a party. Of course if you get me only playing one job consider yourself lucky doesn't happen often and ill more than likely get bored and watch a movie or something while I do it.

Also, I don't get bent out of shape if someone doesn't want to join my party, their loss not mine. Also, I don't invite others until I get the basics of my group established and if its not possible ill go fuck around with something else. My groups rarely fail, I kick people that suck, I don't fuck around, and I've generally got things at my disposal others don't. Last night me and a few ls mates got to get in a 60-62 party just to have fun and got 15k in a hr 1/2 which also included jumping camps with a smn mnk*3 war and sam set up (lol) and had a blast.

So my advice, if the job your desiring to get says 'jp onry" and you can't form a party any other way.... go do one of the other million things this game has to offer instead of flamming a dead beaten horse topic on qcdn again (I did read you didn't see one but they have been made also in general disc before if I remember right).

I do remember a jp player telling me NA {too weak} before and I told him... really? WW2 bomb {do you need it?} {Too weak} JP

Lol, usually in the pts I've been when we tried that it still doesn't work. But I'm glad it works for some people. =p

I've also attended a Japanese high school, and it wasn't that their English was bad, it was that they were embarrassed to speak it. When I first got there, no one would speak to me except my host and some other girls I already knew, but after a few days I had people coming up to me speaking very good English.

As for parties though, I think the same kind of feeling is there, they feel out of their comfort zone and try to avoid being in a situation where they can't communicate a need or problem. My linkshell is mostly Japanese with a few English speaking players that float in and out, and several of the Japanese players will have "(English)(party)(No thanks.)" in their comment, but won't flat-out refuse an invite. They also will talk to me in Japanese or broken English occasionally, and I appreciate their effort to communicate with me.

There are though, plenty of jerks on both sides of this that are too ignorant of other people's cultures. Someone posted a few pages back how they thought most of the Japanese players were younger in comparison to the English player base, when in fact it's the opposite. Most of the Japanese players that I've met and those in my linkshell are over or around 30. I've rarely come across anyone in their teens or early twenties, since they're usually too busy with school to play a game seriously like that. Actually I've met players 45 and over too, which I haven't come across too often in the English player base.

Just because they're required to take English in school doesn't mean they know English. I took three years of Spanish and the only thing I learned was a couple cuss words and how to ask if you have cheese in your pants.

You were leveling white mage and black mage two of the more sought after jobs those levels. That is why you got the party from them.

Or adopt some rudimentary japanese into your tells.

sumimasen, meripo ga ee desu ka? oretachi no <jobs in EXP party> irimasen. oretachi ni <place you wanna go EXP> desu.

I'd like to mention that most Japanese don't understand romanization of their own language quite as much as we'd think they would.

This is true. Romaji isn't used nearly as much as Kanji or Kana which is why I tend to avoid inviting a Japanese member with it.

I generally don't chat much during pick up parties either, so JP/NA is all good - although I usually get more JP parties due to my timezone. There are benefits/negatives to both kind of parties. NA parties are good because I can generally understand everything that is being said and I may be able to party with people whom I recognise. JP parties tend to have a more... "group" feel to them where the party leaves town together and they disband together (no reps), which I like.

I'd like to add, I only remember using Romaji during Japanese class before I learned Hiragana or Katakana. After that, I didn't use it much at all.

If you make it a point to be nice and as communicative as possible when it comes to getting over the language barrier, JPs will remember your name and you won't have the issue next time.

I invited a random JP damage dealer for one of my parties and was shocked to see this Spherai MNK come out. Why in hell would someone like that party with an NA, much less a PLD? Best I could figure (his English was very poor), he had partied with me before, and came not because he expected to get a lot of exp in a faux-cannon with a PLD, but because he knew I was a good NA to party with. By the way, I don't care what you say about the DPS, relic knuckles kick *ass*.
