Eq will win this arguement. I can't remember when it was released but it's outlasted so many other mmo's and it will probably outlast this one too. I think the only reason that a lot of people pick up ffxi is because it has that "Final Fantasy" tag on it. I think that if were called something else, that people probably wouldn't play it.

I don't really care for the audience that that title has attracted either. Eq might have been ugly, but, at least when you started up a party even at like level 10 people knew what to do with their jobs and they didn't stand around and pick their ass, or run off to pull some monster when the mages have no mp, etc etc. I remember being in several groups with people in karnor's which is like the TRAIN capital of eq, where if we got adds, they were handled in a perfect fashion. People knew their roles in a party and that's what they did. And there were hardly any assholes who would call you a loser because you were high level and had good gear. Raids were respectful for the most part, if someone was in a plane or a dungeon, there weren't 500 people all trying to get to the same mob at once. They respected each other for the most part which I think is a thing that is lacking in this game.

Also, people that played eq didn't play it for the graphics, that's my favorite arguement that I hear more than enough from keits. He played eq with me for awhile and he hated it because it was ugly. I can't see playing a game for the graphics. If you enjoy the content of a game, play it don't play it because its pretty. I suppose this is more of a rant than an intelligible reply, but these are some of the things about ffxi that really bother me.

Another thing that I really liked about eq is that your repuatition mattered. On veeshan, if you were a bad player, people knew. And it actually mattered. Unlike this game, where people like tilk thrive because all they have to do is pick the class that is most needed in parties and VOILA, you are level 75. So I guess,

/rant off. 8) 8)

Your basically telling me you'll downplay games like FFVII, Illusion of Gaia, BOF1, or any of these other games because the visuals wont make u fall over, convulsing. EQs graphics are not horribly outdated....sure, they arent new either, but theyre fine.

Well, maybe it's just me, but I don't give a rip about poly counts, graphics card wizardry, or any of that crap. What I don't like are western style fantasy art. I've always prefered Japanese games over American mainly for their art style and definitely for the use of color. I just don't like the American (Western?) style artwork used in most games. The only ones who've managed to still impress me with their art is Blizzard.

Sue me: I like bright shiny vibrant colors.

I never touched upon players like naff did, which is also a HUGE part of the game. Karnor's, "a billion and one trains served and counting"...thats the motto.....standard procedure; zone in right, zone out left. Trains were like clockwork. Small example of how basic knowledge about zones was widely known, unlike FFXI. Like naff also said, ppl knew how to perform their job at lvl 10, whereas ppl still dont know their ass from a hole in the ground at lvl 40. I NEVER had to worry or sometimes FEAR joining a PT because i was afraid of what kind of players I was grouping with. In EQ, 90% of the parties were decent and better. And reputation does matter....not just to avoid ppl...but reputations of great players was known as well. One of the more well known druids on my server, Cazic Thule was in my guild and pretty much my mentor in game.

One thing though, high levels are starting to get less respect because there are more and more of them since Plane of Power released. Im hoping that when SONY increases the level cap to 70, that those levels are insanely hard to get through; the hell of hell levels. Because I miss the respect given for being high lvl.

Tyrion, thats a decent argument, because I hate western animation myself....only a few cartoons stand alone like He-Man or....well...He-Man...i cant think of any other decent quality western cartoons. The animation of that show is of a higher calibur than most of the simple crap u see everyday, i.e. Family Guy or The Simpsons. But when u say u like shiny, vibrant colors, then FFXI CANT be for you. Everything is so drab. Mosey on down to Crystal Caverns or just watch any common battle's spell particles and ull see enough colors and lights to send u into an epileptic seizure.

His (Tyrion) bright and shiny colors comment was directed at her liking Blizzard's animation & coloring. If you've ever played or seen a Warcraft game you'd have realized that.

I don't believe she ment it towards FFXI. Though I feel FFXI to be quite colorful, perhaps not bright and shiny, but the world of Vana'diel has quite a pallet of colors that make it what it is.

ive played EQ before, didn't interest me much...
I used to play UO(Ultima Online), that had worse graphics, but was pretty cool, but
FFXI beats them all, the graphics are clean, and thats why i like it, becuz i feel like I, myself, is in the game...the ability to explore places is also what interested me, i like seeing cool things and such, like when i had to find someone that was lost in Yhoatar, i really enjoyed my venture, i found the crag, got the telepoint, met face-to-face with a higher lvl malboro, found ifrits cauldron, and lots of neat things...
EQ doesnt have the graphics to have the ability to explore
also is that FFXI have a lot of events, if you havent really noticed, like Easter, Summerfest, e.t.c.
I also like the fact that you can change your job, instead of making a whole other character just to be a different job/class is not my kinda playing, i like the ability to like, for example, play as a RDM, then stop, and switch to like NIN, and i dont even have to make another character...
If they come out with more jobs, and raise the cap higher, and make more places to go, FFXI will soon outlast EQ, keep you hooked, and as the FFXI community grows, the more places we can actually level, instead of lvling in the dunes, you can go to Buburimu, ive seen many parties lately in the pennisula, also, i dont know if you know this, but instead of Qufim, you can always go and level in Jugner, Pashlow, or Meriphitaud...or instead of Kazham, you can level in Battalia, Rolanberry, or Sauromangue...you have more choices to level, i like FFXI a lot, becuz of its flexibility, i am happy to see that you dont see God-like characters everywhere, or hacked out low levels...and the non-theivery and pking is nice, in UO, i hated it when i was in this town, then i walk up to a guy and say "HI", he turns to me and kills me, steals my money, and my armor >=O
so i like the safety of not being stolen from or killed

I never played EQ - but has anyone ever seen the show "PORTAL" on g4tv? It was a sitcom type show all about EQ - it was ABSOLUTELY hilarious.

If you haven't seen it - and have the g4 game channel...be sure to check it out - you'll love it! :P

Ew.. I'm sorry but I have to say the majority of G4 produced shows are garbage. I watched a tiny bit of Portal once.. and for a brief moment I found myself wanting to watch Sponge Bob Tardpants and Aqua Teen Retard Force at the same time, rather than watch that Portal crap.

The only G4 shows I do semi enjoy are 'Legends' 'Verses' 'Pulse' and sometimes 'Arena'. Otherwise G4 can't touch the quality of TechTV's programs. X-Play is waaay better than Verses. It just seems like the majority of people that work for G4 are all interested in making themselves look good.. they all look like freaking models too, cept a few people. Where as TechTV generally is there to inform and help you, and their employees focus that aspect too.

G4 show i absolutely have to turn off everytime i see it (i dont know the name) is the one that has like the two chicks that are always argueing with each other, one of the blonde chicks is such a bitch its crazy. I think they also have some overly gay dude that works on the show but the few times i watched it he wasnt there. Whatever show that is, it needs to be cancelled and quickly.

Awww, whats wrong with ATHF? LOL, sure, its a pretty retarded cartoon, but the character personalities are hilarious. Master Shake....hes such an ass you cant help but fall over laughing.
