Equal Rights

My oh my. Temper temper, you'll burst a blood vessel. Complain all you want, but the fact is that while its true you shouldn't have to cut your hair to get a job, no employer has to hire you if they want you to cut your hair and you refuse. Cry, bitch, and moan all you want but if getting your ears lowered is a part of the job, well, I think I've made your options abundantly clear by now. And also, that's "idiot with a job," thank you very much.

And like I've said before, it's not discrimination in anything but the most literal sense of the word. And if you put your higher brain functions to work here you'd realize that in the most literal sense of the word, the entire interview process is discrimination. In this case, discriminating the more suitable candidates from the lesser ones.

If you want another example, in the hopes you'll put 2 and 2 together, think if you went to an interview and you were told you could have the job, but you had to move to another state. You don't want to move, so you don't get the job. Are you going to sue them for discrimination based on residence now? Think about that one real hard now.

(And before anyone asks, the second part was for Romper. Just to lazy to quote.)
That isn't even near the same issue. A better example would be moving from, say, the poor suburbs in to the inner city.

Regardless of the distance involved, its still the same issue. It's a condition of getting the position that the applicant can either accept or decline. The company isn't discriminating, just making a reasonable request of a potential employee.

you know whats funny, they gave us a briefing a couple weeks ago about sexual harrasment, and the guy gave it even said that all Men get fucked over my sexual assault laws and rules -_-

I agree 100% with this but in most cases the inner city IS the poor area :P

Iunno, I don't live in the states <.<; in Sweden, living in the inner city suck, as in Stockholm, a normal-sized apartment can costs over $600000, while a larger house in the suburbs can cost $350000. Or you can move to the countryside and get a large house for $60000. Which reminds me, how the fuck are students supposed to be able to afford a 1-room apartment in Stockholm for $75000? Which is the situation I'm currently in, and the reason I still live with my parents.. Sure, moving to the countryside to study is all good and dandy, until you realize all the good schools are in Stockholm.

Are those prices for the apartments like, per year...? Cause that would be a hefty monthly sum. Or do you mean to buy em? Cause here you don't buy apartments, you rent them. You buy houses(actually you can rent those too but...well you see my point).

Depends on the city, actually. But that's not really relevant to this discussion at any rate.

It's less like being asked to move, and more like being told to conform to company dress codes that they're allowed to set. If you work for UPS, for example, you wear the UPS uniform, which includes rules about how long you can have your hair, how much facial hair you can have, etc. Matters of personal sartorial preference are irrelevant. You wear what you're told to wear, or you find somewhere else to work.

Especially with how many people are looking for jobs. If you don't want to conform to a job that doesn't take any special skill or degree, then the company will find someone else that will.

I don't have much feedback in terms of the actual topic since it's been decently discussed for the most part, but...personally, I always hold the door for anyone approaching. A lot of people around where I live do it as well. I wouldn't really even consider it a romantic/chivalrous gesture so much as I would a somewhat common courtesy.

Why does Makelith's argument immediately make me think of FF dynamics?

"You can sub what you want but other people don't have to party with you."

Huh. Guess the game DOES have use in the real world.

Thing is, you're entitled to your opinion that the company should hire you despite long hair. The company is also entitled to it's opinion it wants someone who has a more clean cut appearance. If two applicants have same qualifications and it comes down to dress and presentation, the latter applicant is more likely to get the job.

Yeah. The Swedish state decided to be retarded and sell every appartment in existance. Thus making it practically impossible to get an appartment as a student attending school. That is, unless you feel like taking a loan. Which, btw, you can't, unless you have a full-time job. Which, btw, is almost impossible to have if you're attending school.

Which is why the Swedish government is retarded. Which is why a great deal of students, including me, is pissed off. There ARE a few appartments you can higher, but there's so few of them its practically a war. And they rarely build appartments you can higher anymore.

This started about 2 years ago if I remember right. Before almost every appartment were hired instead of bought. Now they sell everything, including the hospitals. They say its in favour of preventing monopoly etc. And even have their own company that work towards preventing monopoly. However, they (the government) still have monopoly on the most profitable things, being alcohol, and to some extent gambling. And they'll be damned if anyone tries to go in to that business as well.... those hypocrites.

Why is it always the white, heterosexual males between the ages of 18-32 that make such ludicrous comparisons? I find it rich.

A lot of them are upset that people who aren't white or heterosexual or male are taking "their" jobs.

i have semi long hair, kinda wild and i wear bandanas alot under my hair, i like the way it looks and i can style my hair to make it look the way i like, i also have stretched ears and a lip ring...i've been denied jobs because of it, people tell me i cant work at their business because "my ears would attract 'negative' attention" or my hair isnt clean cut enough or their policy was no facial peircings (i had a bridge peircing at one time before it got infected) so yea, equality? i dont think so, thats a form of prejudice in my eyes, i'm being discriminated against because of my modifications or the way i look

it's no different from the hair issue although i did have long hair at one point but i couldnt stand it anymore one day so i shaved it all off lol
