Exp whores

I am totally boggled...

Why would any good end game player want to sit and waste hrs upon hrs getting back a decent buffer or meriting when they could build a more efficient pt and reduce the time needed to accomplish the same thing?

Cannon pts are a blessing for the busy player. Running back and forth for different end game events I don't have 5 hrs to sit and get 2 merits or get 10k buffer. Who really wants to sit and do this for hours and hours when there are so many other things going on in the game?

Anyone who "doesn't like cannon pts" is just ricockulous. End of story.

So normal parties are better because all the cannon parties you've done suck ass? It's not really that hard to understand: cannon parties have the highest potential to get the best EXP/hour.

And you are basing this on what?

If you actually look at the parser dmg output DoTwise /thf and /war is relatively close on a drk.

No, never was, never will be on any melee job. I'm not sure why this aggrivates me so much when people think this but it does. This has been proven time and time again to be complete BS. Once again, subbing THF is for Hate transfer/control only. Please do not fill any more new player's heads that may be reading this with misinformation. I could care less what someone likes to sub for xp, sub WHM for AutoRegen if you want, but do not try to say it's "close" or anything of the sort to something when it's not.

Everyone always brings up DoubleAttack too like that's the thing that gives you the biggest boost in damage. Berserk gives you 25% more Attack for a full 3min with a 5min cooldown. Also I can't figure out why some people seem to think that DA is somehow diminished because you have a higher delay weapon. It's a 10% activation rate across the boards. It makes no difference if you are wielding a 600 delay weapon or attacking at Hundred Fists speed, 10% more is 10% more, period.

If you are playing a job that involves hitting an exp. monster with a weapon for damage then /WAR is the #1 choice end of story. When survivability or Hate transfer comes into play then there are better options but not for overall damage. I'm not advocating every job sub WAR 100% of the time for exp either because that's inefficient especially in a cannon. Unless you have really shitty gear MNK is too strong by nature to get away with subbing it. Other characters have top notch gear and merits and cannot sub it without being a MP sponge and ruining chains. It's uses in a merit party are extremely situational but what's not situational is that it is #1 for total damage. If mobs didn't hit you back then no one would have any logical reason to not use it full time.

PS. To everyone talking about how the other melee jobs have more to do than MNK and WAR than simply engaging and WS, there's a reason for that. When you first start this game there are only 6 jobs open for you to choose. All the other one's you can open after lvl 30 by quest are "Advanced jobs." They are supposed to be more intricate by design than the starter jobs. Even the Brady Guide says it so it must be true. :spiteful:

Cannon or regular pt doesnt make any difference to me... when the cannon's there I surely go with it...

BUT, when it's not there... I feel I have room to experiment I guess you could say... I'll put my mnk up and pull out my drk or sam(which people dont ever know I have ><) and have some funz ^^

I COMPLETELY agree with Jya though, I constantly sit and shake my head to people who we consider "elitist"... But thats them... and I'm me... and each of us gonna act however we please... :O, and btw I'm an exp whore ><

I have seen /war and /thf parser results for a few drks. I'm not filling new players heads with nonsense. I didn't just mention double attack and I also said depending on equip. I am telling them like you said people bring up the Double attack thing too often. If you swing less you are going to double attack less. It pisses me off when people with high delay weapons say I /war for double attack. Say i /war for more DoT ok that makes sense. Extra str and the att bonuses duh. I said relatively close I didn't say /war doesn't outdo /thf. Basically I agree with everything you said I was just pissed because this guy was saying /thf on a drk wasnt beneficial to a party. I hate when drk/war becomes an MPSINK so I prefer drk/thf in a traditional party.

Why don't you all just form a static party linkshell?

That way you dont have to worry about partying with idiots and with the amount of active people on QCDN, you wont have to worry TOO much about log on times.

And you are basing this on what?
You're kidding right?

Cannons are the only way you're going to get over 25k/hour, period. The reason why they're so popular is because of their HUGE difference in exp gain over a traditional party. This is what's known as a fact, that is it's basis.

The more you're posting the less you're seeming just uninformed and the more you're coming off as an idiot.

Drk/thf being the "best" option died out 3 years ago, please try catching up with the times. Subbing thief is more of a liability at this point than any real benefit. Yes, you get that big number on your weapon skill, but you're sacrificing every possible benefit to your melee damage; on top of limiting the potential of the rest of the party.

Samurai and Dragoons sub warrior, they have high delay weapons. Just because you take longer to swing doesn't mean that double attack is any less effective. 10% of 100 swings is 10 swings, regardless of how long it takes to swing 100 times.

Please try learning what you're talking about before you start spouting off idiocy.

Damn lack of edit.

Subbing thief has it's place, but it's no longer the king of exp parties. I hated having thieves or /thieves in my party as a ninja, because I didn't need SATA to hold hate and they ended up slowing down the party just so they could jack off to larger weapon skill numbers and think they were helping. /THF is good if you have a shitty tank or you're doing something in endgame.

OMG I never said anything about cannons not being better.. I asked that question because he said my cannons sucked. Really it depends on if you have people in your party who care about their gear or not.

Um ya I never said /thf was the best option either. I said I prefer it over drk/war for traditional parties. Most drk I have pted with dont have the best gear. That could be why I prefer it. Most people just rush to 75 and dont get any decent gear and I hate that as well.

As for double attacks.. I said I hate when someone says they /war for double attack and not DoT. If you swing 100 times you get 10 double attacks so what? If you swing 300 times compared to that 100 you get 30 double attacks. I meant you swing less you get less double attacks just like I said. 10 double attacks is less double attacks than 30 is it not? I know it is 10% and I dont need that explained to me.

but to simply say that people who gloat about their numbers and not being outparsed should remember that its not something special. Its just stats.

Your point is valid enough if you're looking at a career, merited DD versus someone relatively gimp.

However, given that players may actually be geared exactly or very similarly to one another, it's not the stats. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's special or gloat about it, but it's true that there's something about your play style (what you do, and when, and how exactly) that tipped the scales, and it's not the difference in stats. This point is proven even further when someone with lesser gear outperforms someone with better gear. It happens. Have the magical stats failed? No. There's just more to it than stats.

Highest chain you've gotten is 40 in cannon and 100 in traditional?

I'm pretty sure someone had a SS of them getting something ridiculous like chain 900. I remember it being posted on killingifrit.com awhile back.

I couldnt agree more sneaky.... I cant.. XD :D

Yeah, I've done almost 200 before, only reason we stopped is because people got hungry/tired. Stopping at 40 is a pretty pathetic cannon or there's a dumb traditional party in a cannon spot.

I wasn't referring to the ability to be efficient at a job though ; ;
Yes people can play jobs better than others, some do it very well and others suck and somehow reach 75.

I was posting in response to someone who posted their numbers and then spoke as if it made them so great because they had never been outparsed, and really the numbers aren't anything but stats. Stats which can be obtained by other players, resulting in the same dmg...Which was my point, its not something to gloat about. People get so obsessed about their gear and their numbers... which are affected by the game, not by you as a player. If they were talking about how fast they can pull off their job abilities and time their ws's, well then that'd be a different story.

Sorry for the derail <_<

Except you're missing the point of what Sneakypants is saying. I could have the exact same gear/merits as someone else and do better than them because of my play style. The gear is definitely a big factor, but a moron with the best gear available is going to lose out to a pro with just good gear.

I'm not missing the point, I awknowledged it. My reference to "skill" in my initial post was because so many people in this game think they're "it" because of their numbers, and honestly when it comes to gamers having "skill" I wouldn't really consider FFXI to be a game worthy of being considered because there are other games out there that require a lot more "player skill" to do well in. Hence my example of PvP... that would be a game that does require more "player skill" to be good at, in comparison to FFXI.

When people are talking strictly about their numbers, it has nothing to do with "player ability". Those numbers are a result of the stats on their character, whether its in merits or gear. Its the stats that are pulling off the numbers.

And again, my comment in my initial post was directed to exactly that, it wasn't directed to someone bragging about being able to play efficiently, but rather gloating about their numbers which is a result of something determined by the game ... not player ability. (This is assuming the person knows the simple basics of how to maximize the potential of their ws through use of job abilities and gear swap)

Kunel, again i dont care if you like certain setups.

But no one needs to be rude about it. No one needs to think they are 100% better than people, and act like their shit doesn't stink. They dont have to treat people like shit in the process of getting exp. That's my point.

Lol might as well say that if player A has a faster computer and less lag than player B who may have equal or better skills/equipment, the faster player will be better overall. So who is better equipped in game or outside the game. :)

LMAO.. any decent RDM that isn't drunk or stoned should be able to easily beat you in a 1 on 1. Don't get me wrong.. I'm not saying I'm 1337 @ PvP.
Whatever you do don't drink and PvP if you want to win ^^

Rdm's and Plds are actually the toughest for me, but thats mainly for lack of a good defense build. I did sneak up on a RDM (love Tonko ^^) and almost killed him with a solo sc. Most DD's drop fast though (MNK WAR etc). A smart RNG can give me some problems, because of the lack of range.

And btw, most Rdm's don't 1 on 1 me, lol. They know better. ^^

I can't say I ever in all 3 years of my game play, saw that as a default invite (ie... the sharing of jobs). I always go the standard: >> {Party}{Do you need it?}.
lol, PS2 noob (haven't used that term in a while, timeline fits)

The 2 brd party doesn't simply give you two songs in exchange for a DD. For that DD you give up, you get:

-4 songs always on the melee, never wearing
-double ballad on the healer at all times, and a backup healer (non-pulling brd goes /whm) which also means haste on all melee 100% of the time
-Dia II on every single mob, gravity on most as well if main healer is a rdm
-15% or so more swings from the 2nd march, along with less mob TP/fight due to increased attack from a 2nd minuet, or from meat and madrigal instead of sushi (this is your 2 extra songs)
-a puller that never has to look at the MP of the healer, or stop pulling to run over and give them a ballad or two. Ballad is the number 1 killer of chains

It's not a trade-off that is horribly balanced in favor of one type or the other. 1 brd is better vs weak stuff like in mire, 2 brds win out vs harder stuff like colibri.
