Expensive gear

Ok, I've put off lvling for quite some time in order to catch up on spells and gear. I've gotten pretty much all the spells I need, but I'm no closer to getting the gear I need.

The gear in question is the ice and dark staves. I know they would be very beneficial to my job, and I still plan on getting them eventually, but I miss leveling. So my question is how long can I go without getting these? Aside from these my gear is pretty good, I dont have the greatest gear, but it is efficient enough and I'll be getting AF within the next 10 levels.

These staves are VERY expensive, especially for me (I've never had more than 60k on me at one time) And I doubt that if I keep farming, crafting, camping NM's, that I'll be playing this game much longer.

So tell me, can I get away with not having these, and if so for how long?

How, exactly, are you attempting to make money? If the ammount of time you've spent trying to save gil is as long as you make it seem, then you should focus on finding a better way to make gil, first.

Well I've tried just about everything. I've camped serveral NM, and even when I am lucky enough to claim them I never get the drop. I've been crafting consumable items, they never sell even when I lower my price. And finally, I've been farming, which just takes so much time even to get full stacks of items that will sell for a decent price, and again stuff never sells for me.

My main problem seems to be my luck. I really have no shortage of items to sell, but I cant get them to sell. If my crafted items would sell faster I would be able to get my staves in probably less than a week.

I've already given up NM hunting just because out of every NM I've ever camped I've only ever gotten one to drop (fruit punches from Tom Tit Tat, way back in the day).

I think at the moment I have roughly 50k or so on AH worth of items that just wont sell. I dont wanna undercut too much for a couple reasons.

1. I dont want to lead to a price crash.
2. They are crafted items and I dont want it to cut too deeply into my profits, I've farmed every material I could from them, but sadly I still take a small hit due to one items rarity.

So its really not an issue of how I've been making my money I suppose... its more of bad luck coupled with me not being able to play the AH very well.

Undercut those items a small amount.

If you want to sell it for 5000, then mark it at 4951. Even if someone guesses the correct amount, you only lose out on 49 gil. If you're marking this at 5000, this is the reason why they're not selling. Most people I know do this, so if you're not, good luck.

Where and what are you farming? How long per day are you farming? What level/job are you? Are you using THF?

There's no reason anyone with a THF sub shouldn't be farming at least 10k per hour. Based on the fact that I think few people are farming nowadays, and the price of beehive chips is stable at 3500, I bet you can make 15k doing chips if you fight bees that you can kill in 1 or 2 hits.

Ya farming something that has a good market like beehive chips works well. Since you have a lvl 50 character i would suggest farming in Rolanberry for tree cuttings or in Jugner for tiger hides and teeth. Also look for stuff for repeatable quests, I'm sure you know of plenty at lvl 50. Don't stress about the luck of camping NM's, I'm 1/6 on the dopplegangers and all I got was a lousy spear that sells for 5k. Only killed spipi twice and no drop, this is with a thf subbed with TH too.

Lv50 can walk agro free in Gusgen Mines.

Take to the mines, young one. Riches await.

Don't waste time on tree cuttings

Seriously, they drop so infrequently it's absurd. I killed 8 gobbue farmers and 2 regular gobbues, 1 treant bulb and some water crystals were my only drop. My friend with TH2 has problems getting the cuttings to drop as well.

Take to the mines as keits suggested, or log in Buburimu Peninsula. You need a partner for buburimu, but I'm available for that ^^ send me a /tell if interested in logging at buburimu.

farm silk.. everyone plz farm silk.. bring that price down so i can lvl clothcraft

NM camping isnt gil making. It's the lottery. iv'e Never relied on nm camps to make gil. in 74 lvs as ranger ive probably burned at least several million in ammo, food, and shihei.
theres too many "ifs" involved in nm camping to make it time vs gil efficient.
"if the nm pops in a resonable time"
"if the nm is claimed by you"
"if the nm drops the item"
farming mobs 20-30 lvs under you for fast killing sub thf is more reliable if you take the time invovved in the "if" method, vs what you can get in the Same amt of time farming too weaks.
synthing is another quite viable option when dealing woth things like ammo and food. the cost vs profit is far better than the large synths (like a dark staff) where the non HQ item is often even or less than the materials involved.
lizaed skins, bee chips, cuttings, fangs, silk, slime oil, etc all good sellers. but farming is such a drag. ; ;
one other option is to go to an area that has both small almost worthless nms And a farmable too weak mob. maximize time vs profit by farming the mobs, but also camping the likely under or even non camped nms. any nm drops from mobs that noone really wants go right to a npc. its a nice way to bolster what you get off the too weaks for ah.

Damn you mat, that is one of my favorite farming spots!!

Lets not go into uber detail here we have tho forum flies who like to come by scavange off the free info and never post then are never to be seen again. cause poor Ezikiel is gonna go to farm//camp spipi area and there will be 90,000 lil rank 1 bums doing the same thing, then when ham goes to give it a shot he will see an angry Ezikiel fuming at all the 90,000 lil rank 1 bums.

Naw, don't really care all that much Dar.
I have about 5 key farming spots, and if there are ppl at one of them, I move to one of my others.

But everyone does need to be careful on this site to not give away too much gill making info. We don't want our economy crashing!

NM camping isnt gil making. It's the lottery

I like this quote. Too many people are focused on making the quick money, and then when they can't get the drop, we see the "MAKING GILZ IS IMPOSSIBLE OMG!!!" threads. Making money is easy, it just takes time.

Suggestion

I havent seen it posted, but I here BCNM 40 is a good money maker? I am level 38 at the moment, so cant say for sure. I hope to be doing this myself with a up and coming static. Give it a shot.

I've been farming silk with my 25Thf. In 2 days, 5 hours of farming silk and beehive chips, and doing quests, I've netted roughly 65k.

I've also got the Spipi drop a couple of times in the past, however it's just too much hassle for me to camp NM.

Also, I take my 32Drk/Thf in Pal Mines, and come out with 10k in drops and gil per trip, just fighting Quads for an hour. Just boat back to Bastok and hit the AH, wash, rinse, repeat.

If you are having trouble in that you have more stuff to sell than AH spots, bazaar it. If I have a lot of stuff, Ill mark it down, sit under a tree somewhere and leave myself logged in over night. Usually my bazaar is mostly cleared out by the time Im ready to play again.

Ham, I do feel your pain. I farmed/mined/crafted/logged for two weeks to buy both the ice and dark staves. Cant use them yet, but they are nice to look at.
