Farmer Cause inflation not Gilseller

Twincoons havnt always been 200K? When I was really hurting for gil back in October I was farming that evil crawler for hours a day and always sold them for the running price of 200K ...

Now something thats really inflated is silk .... its gone up 100K a stack of cloth in less then 2 weeks :/

Selling price at AH for one item is not a good measure of inflation, and you can't blame the sellers for price increases. If you farm an item regularly, and it sells at going price before you make it back to your mog, and there are never any at the AH, would you continue to sell at the going price?

Inflation is more money in the economy per capita. Farmers of twincoons don't add to per capita currency.

An increase in the cost of materials in this case is not the cause of inflation, but a result of it.

The amount of items on the auction house has nothing to do with the amount of money in the economy. The more items on the auction house the lower the average price of those items.

hi van, long time no see, and as for this thread,
before i stopped playing, i had recently bought a lilac corsage for somome at around 150k, i can't believe the rising prices while i was gone and if i ever came back, those prices would scare me away hehe

On a lighter note, look what I did to twinthreads!

Personally, I don't think Gilsellers is the problem, I agree with Vandy that it's typically the farmers of certain items that push the price in the Auction House up. Honestly, if you got a scroll that is worth 500k and AH is currently sold out, you will more likely try to sell it at 550k or 600k. Some sucker buys it and another person, who wants to sell the same scroll decides 600k is good for him too... before long the scroll is worth 1 million gil and people still will buy it because when they exp, they are told they suck unless they have that one scroll. :p

My favorite though are the items that you can buy from a NPC for cheap, but same items are inflated in price in Auction House. :)

I had a talk with an alleged chinese gold seller in WoW last night. It was quite interesting. Turns out the guy isn't chinese at all, and he isn't a gold seller either. His goal in WoW is to accumulate 1M gold, he has been working on it since day 1 of WoW, and he is nowhere close (lol), but he does have just over 37k gold in WoW.

All he does is buys rare items and puts them up for double, triple, or quadruple of the price he bought it for. Obviously he is catering to people who buy WoW gold, but he is not affiliated with gold sellers, best I can tell anyway. His joy is to make cash in the game. Others level their toons to 60, he works the AH.

I think there are very likely quite a few of those people in any MMO. People who buy something low, and put it up for much much more. Between thousands of players on any given server, there is bound to be one sucker who pays the high price. In FFXI things are worse because there is a price history.

A potential seller sees that an item sold for a lot, and puts his item up for a lot as well.

I am not saying the famers and gil sellers have no impact, but besides blaming them and SE, please also blame regular players who raise the prices just to make a buck (which isn't all that wrong, imho).

yep, that explains why when i was once buying a great katana it said on the price history that some one, not saying nam, bought one for 30k, and sold it right after for 60k, about three times too... :P
and thats not the only time i've seen people do it either

It seems to me one possible solution to this problem would be the following: Make all items, especially common, low-level recipe ingredients available from NPCs. Also, make virtually all equipment, unless it's an extremely rare item like a Kraken Club, available from NPCs. Set the NPC price of the items at a price that is proportional to the drop rate or the number of available mobs that drop the item. I know a lot of low-level equipment is already available like this, as well as most spells and not many people take advantage of it. However, I do and I am sure many others do as well when they're leveling up new jobs. Also, SE needs to make a system where the stupid guild shops do not run out of items within 5 minutes of re-opening each day. An example of this that I run into frequently is Tarutaru rice. People camp or even bot the Cooking Guild, but the only stack that's available for about 3k then turn around and sell it on the AH for anywhere from 9-18k. If I have alternatives to obtaining materials for recipes then I can pass those savings onto buyers at the AH and still make 100% profit or more. Also, if I know that what I am making can be bought from an NPC for X amount of gil then I would be a fool to sell it for a higher price than the NPC.

or sole sushi, well, at least before i had quit, it was 45k a stack, did it rise or is it still at a similar price?

If demand outpaces supply so much that price jumps like that, it's not inflation. When that happens the item is obviously undervalued at the AH, and the price rise is just supply and demand balancing out.

i dont remember who said this, but i thought it was a good way to fix the guild camping thing: Make all items sold by guild exclusive, but behave like regular items for synthing
i also thought this was a good idea, make a random % chance, for a random group(very specific and random so people cant realy abuse it too badly) like every now and then 1 of the jobs in a certain range can buy something, but no one else can even see it there, so for example warriors lvl 50-55 can buy a hauby @80% ah price, or maybe a whm same thing with vermy cloak.
well i think that would be a good idea, if it could be implemented so it couldnt be predictable enough to camp it

You should hate the farmer, because every farmer farms Twincoons and hikes their prices, so they can then get Opaline Gear. Excellent observation...

On a lighter note, you should hate Rikku for buying the Twincoon 20k over the stable price. GG loldrg.

Spot on sarcasm. Skaw makes good points also.

THF is a natural farmer, and so I farm.
I've never price jacked, but I will put an item up for what the current going rate is.

Price jacking and inflation are not the same thing.

since you posted one ingredient/final product I figured I might wanna point out my own, one that I'm very familiar with.

skins6tp.jpg

These used to go for 250k, you know who controls these.

mantle6cy.jpg

And here's the crafters shooting up the price to compensate for the uprise in materials.

[sarcasm]oh and I'm sure gilsellers are very nice people.[/end sarcasm]

gtfo w/ that shit, If I made my living off of this game I'd be a pretty chipper guy myself.

You are wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.

I've said it over and over, say it's sold out and you wanna hike hte price, if everyone goes out there to buy the last one on AH and they can't get it for 500k they WILL NOT BUY IT if they don't think it's worth that, the problem with gilsellers is people get mass amounts of gil from buying it online and use it like it's water, so for them to spend an extra 100k for a scroll it's no problem. if they didn't have the gil to buy it then they would wait for that stupid ass to get his item returned to him, and then he'd put it up for 500k and then the people would buy it at that going price.

let's go into a scenario.

You live in a country of 500 people, everyone works very hard for thier money and usually get 50 bux a day, economy is good, cars are only about 5k and everything is relitively cheap, things will stay that way because everyone is working and nobody is going to pay 10k for a car that goes for 5k, now say the population doubles to 1000 and the new people show up with millions falling out of thier pockets, will the car dealerships and everything else take advantage of that? hell yea, selling a car for 10k, 40k, 60k is no problem at all because money basically grows on trees, do you guys even get that? it seems like I'm repeating myself.

some of you guys are new here, I've been around for over 2 years, and that was when a million was a very big deal. you go to buy a SH on the AH and it's a mil more than the last price history, no no way you'd buy that, cause it wasn't easy to come by a million gil, now you can spend 10 real life bucks and get that last SH on the AH, yea people are going to do it.

not the gilsellers fault. geezus you make me so sad

Gil sellers are the biggest contribution to the problem.

Look, this is examples why we should hate farmer and not really the gilseller

as you can see orginally Twincocoon should be around 100k each, but now jump from 220k, and this is not from a gilseller[/b]

Large is a gil seller...When he outclaims @ Sozu Rogberry I usually mpk him >=) /praise Bonze Marberry

Don't MPK Large. He may be a gilseller, but he's my friend and he's very nice. His whole group is nice. And actually, they haven't been getting a lot of claims lately, so he hasn't gotten any money, and has to work more. He only makes about $100 a week.
