Being a career Bastokan and having played through the 3 starter areas I've developed certain opinions on which I prefer. I was curious what everyone else was feeling on this matter.

Favorite City Layout: Ease of learning, how time consuming is getting around, vendor locations, etc.
1. Gridania
2/3 Limsa Lominsa, Ul'Dah are kind of tied. Both have a lot of stair running, one has pirates the other a Colosseum. Tough call.

Favorite looking environment surrounding city: Picturesque sunsets and whatnot.
1. Ul'Dah
2. Gridania - beautiful but very similar looking.
3. Limsa Lominsa

Favorite environments to traverse surrounding city: Minimal amount of invisible walls, enjoyable to run through, etc.
1. Ul'Dah
2. Limsa Lominsa
3. Gridania - from my experiences just way too corridor-ish

Favorite variety of creatures around the city. Could change once I get further out.
1. Ul'Dah
2. Limsa Lominsa
3. Gridania

Favorite opening to the game:
1. Gridania
2. Ul'Dah
3. Limsa Lominsa

Favorite introductory quest line:
1. Gridania - head over heels, imo, The Color of Sin had the best story and cutsceens of the three.
2. Ul'Dah
3. Limsa Lominsa

Where do you plan on starting at launch:
1/2. Currently Ul'Dah and Gridania are tied
3. Limsa Lominsa

Not looked at Gridania yet, plan to later. Right now I'm loving Ul'dah though!

Even though I'm currently playing in Gridania, I have a feeling I'm gonna play in Ul'dah on the official release. Reason being, I really think I'm going to like that story line the most... ALSO, the zones outside Ul'dah remind me so much of Sarutabaruta/Tahrongi Canyon etc., and I like that a lot :)

So is Girdania the Windurst? Or what? Can we draw some connections?

Gridania as a city is closest to Windy but environment wise I'd say Ul'Dah is closer.
Ul'dah as a city is closest to Sandy but the environment is a mix between Jungles and Sanctuary.

I wonder if the dislike for for Lominsa branches off from the over-use of it in alpha and beta.

I do have to say Ul'Dah is my favorite city though, I really like the area and atmosphere there. I think The Black Shroud (Gridania)'s area is way too narrow and I don't quite like it as much. Lominsa though, I really am also fond of, and the story-line there is actually really cool I think. Seems like it could get really interesting!

Gonna be hard to chose Ul'Dah or Lominsa for release for me.

Not sure what I'm going to pick yet to be honest. Probably not Lominsa. I love the outside area of Ul'dah though and it's music.

I'd say I want to start in Ul'dah, and thats where I currently am. Have started in all area's as well. But wondering how fishing friendly Ul'dah is, doesn't seem to have much water and no fishers guild. And I want to be a fisher its fun.

Perform the fishing Fieldcraft Leves. That should show you a couple fishing locations.

Edit: I just noticed people fishing in the fountains around Ul'Dah.

Fishing seems tough to me. Is it still that 1/5 chance of landing a fish or did they change it in an update?

Ul'dah for life!

If you are in the Limsa area, do you get to see the sea at all if you leave the city?

I'm going with Gridania. I really enjoy the scenary and forest atmosphere, quiet, peaceful and lush. I also think the story line will be more interesting than the others from my point of view. Ul'dah looks kind of interesting though, saw a video on youtube with the run down of Ul'dah, saw some fountains that looked amazing. Final decision would be Gridania though. :D

I like gridania personally because I like corridor type areas, I like finding interesting pathes and running with obsticles, gives me a feeling that the world is not barren (which is my problem w/ Limsas Zones)

I'd say Gridania = windy city + Sandy zone
Ul'dah = WG city + Windurst/bastok zone
Limsa = Sandy/Selbina?(pretty original city not like anything in XI) + La Theine/Konshtat zone

^_^ I <3 forests though, swear i can just sit in zi'tah forever and a half.

Same here!!

Zi'tah and yuhtunga/yhoator were my favorites in XI,

I haven't even played in uldah yet, just seen its opening cut-scene, but the gridania intro is BYFAR the best, and I'm already in love with the city and forest, everything is beautiful,

also, moogles are BAD ASS!

Speaking of cities. Does anyone know if it is easy to travel to the other starting cities from your starting city? This will be a big factor for me at launch. I may have to start off in LL D:

I hear there is a lot of aggro dodging and dancing, much like traveling to Jeuno for the first time lol

It was actually very easy. A little long. Me and Justin ran there with NO agro at all. Didn't have to really enemy doge either. Once you get to a town, go to the crystal there and you can then teleport there at a later date. Easy!
