I have a few friends that I grew up with who are professional programmers. It never fails every time I talk to them; I get ragged on because I choose to do Networking as a Career rather than Programming. I also get ragged because I prefer coding in Delphi (Pascal) rather than C, or Java. Yes I can code in C but I don’t like the language.

What is it that C programmers have against Delphi?

Guy it’s just a computer geek thing, kind of like the PC <> Mac War.

Guy = Guess

Damn Word Auto Correct.

if 'C++' > 'C' Then 'C#' > 'C++'?

I'm a PHP / MySQL person myself :shock:

I'm a C++ person msyelf, though I do enjoy doing LISP every now and then.As for delphi, it's just not as geek cool as C++ or LISP 8)

(FAKE flame - I really like Pascal)
yeah yeah, this was just a reason to wave your coding-skills-dick around.
Just open a post saying "all about Pascal", or put the following in your
sig: "Network programing kicks all your Visual Basic-front-end asses."
(/end Fake Flame)

back to reality. I havn't heard anybody fit in any one class or another.
The usual concensus is to learn a language like C,C++, Java, etc. where
they are all diff languages but have a same base to learn from. Most
professional inter-office apps are network driven nowadays.
Where I work, they are using network databases in the backend and
customized front-ends available to the inside sales people.

dunno maybe you just have snobby friends. :P

I do, I need new friends. :cry:

I'm in networking, I have friend that's a programer..... he loses e-mail and lan connectivity magically when he says programers are better :D

My entreprise has me programming in Visual Basic... for Applications...

/em hides in a corner out of shame...

I can't stand java, though I don't mind C. I only played around with delphi a bit and wasn't liking it a whole lot, but I didn't really give it much chance.

well if C++ > C than C is obivously C< F-2+3348 squared cubed 17 and a half right? :lol:

I too am in Networking and I love my job, however, I am also going to school for my Computer Science degree. Thus far my experiences are in BASIC (which I don't think really counts - took it in High School) and Java. Unfortunately in my degree track, the only languages covered are Java and C++. I've seen this throughout most universities... That could possibly be the reason behind the prejudice; because they are defending what they were taught/know and haven't even tried the other?? Ya think?? :wink:

I'm keeping an open mind and am willing to try anything...

Delphi is in the realm of fortran. C and it's derivations are still the best options out there. Java is just too bulky (poor use of resources).

that fake flame in no way meant i hate vb.
i'm a closet Visual Basic lover. That stuff is so fun to work
with.

C++ is fun (bread and butter in college on Unix too w00t). ^_^
Was fortunate to see the other side of the spectrum for oldschool programming and worked on the mainframe(AS400) for 2 years, long live client/server programming. I've dabbled with Perl, now that was fun. PHP was nice, it was like C++ and Perl had a kid named PHP. Now I am writing Winrunner scripts. Ahhh, the good ol' days. Okay, enough rambling.
