Today, I'm proud to announce that my new PC, Intel Core 2 Duo has hit the 11000 mark using FFXI Benchmark on low-res while at high-res, it hit the 9000 mark.

System specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 [email protected]
Gigabyte Nvidia 7900 GT 256MB
Gigabyte DS3 Motherboard (August 11th BIOS)
Apacer DDR 2 1GB Memory

lolIntel is all I have to say. =P

Video card overclocked at all?

The new Conroe core is leagues ahead of anything AMD has to offer.

Just FYI.

That means, I can play in Al-Zahbi's besieged with the other 749 players + mobs with no lag :D

and maybe dual play another toon with no lag too o.O

thats a :partytime:

Thats good to hear because im planning on getting basically that same setup (but an XFX 7900 and Asus MB).

Even though that chip is better then pretty much every AMD out on the market now.

You make me sick >.>

:( only got 2700 in low res >_< my comp sucks lol

Your system is making me drool, Masamura.

I was just thinking about building a new one for myself, last night. Unfortunately, I'm not excreting money at the moment, so I was investigating ways to cut costs. I was thinking of the following:

Pentium D 805

It's very cheap now, even less than $100 ... the most inexpensive dual core available (I'm not having any delusions about affording one of the new Conroes). Yet, in spite of the price, it's supposed to be obscenely simple to overclock. It is said to run in a stable condition at 3.6 - 3.8 GHz without any additional cooling beyond the simple air setup that comes with the chip and a suitable motherboard itself, and if you want to get really nuts with it and get liquid cooling, you can bump it up to 4.1 GHz.

Assuming I bought a minimally decent board, mediocre memory, and the best video card from a year-and-a-half ago (maybe a Geforce 7600 GS), keeping my old peripherals (case with a 450w power supply, hard drive, monitor, speakers), I believe I could pull off a very decent, new system for $400 or less.

I've been an AMD and ATI man for the last few years. Based on everything I can read at the moment, however, I wouldn't mind hazarding a brand-shift.

why would this decrease lag?
last time I checked lag means network latency

You didn't check very hard, then. In addition to connectivity lag, there's such a thing as graphical lag, or latency in 3d rendering. This very much depends on your GPU (video card), memory available, and other things.

By far, the single greatest thing in Besieged that makes the whole thing miserable is the difficulty in rendering every moving character and mob on the screen at once The load on the servers is indeed intense, which is what primarily accounts for delayed reactions and disconnections ... the limitations of your own system, however, very much comes into play with the overall choppiness of it. That's why reducing your animation framerate, clip plane, and turning off all battle effects helps out so much.

Of course, Masamura is exaggerating when he claims he's going to completely eliminate Besieged graphical lag ... no practical home-built system can do that at the moment, no matter how uber ... but it will help.

I don't have a as good a computer as you do, but I'm shocked how little you need to play FFXI. I play FFXI on hi-res (I lag in besieged a LOT nowadays, I had no lag in the old one before july 24 patch), I've recently been playing with 2 accounts of FFXI on the same comp, and my FPS is always above 20, a lot of the time at 30... I thought it would be like 10 or so <.<;

Unfortunantly, no matter what you benchmark, 50 Actors is the most that can be displayed. Whether they be PC or NPC. Once you hit that mark, the only way you render some one else is if another is removed, by distance(As it renders the closest 50,) or leaving.

I'm on a P4 2.0 Ghz, 2 GB RAM(Not fast RAM either,) and a Radeon 9800 Pro(128MB RAM.) And I have 0 graphical/system lag. It's all network in besieged. This game just isn't graphically intensive. I've played on a GeForce 3 while I had to RMA my Radeon when one of the heatsinks fell off. Granted, while not being all that great in speed, the amount of RAM I have helps immensely.

sad how FFXI needs a OMEGA pc to play perfect, seeing how the game is like 4 years old now..

when I first started playing, I used a Geforce 3 Ti ( XD tweaked settings to hell), now im using a Radeon 9800 XT, thats enough for this game.. I can deal with lag.
