ok i know i sometime daydream while seeking for a party and while in class (try as hard as i can to not pay attention to the teacher), but one of the things i most enjoy is thinking up what new jobs could be introduced into FFXI. i know a couple friends online joke about this as well and some that are Intensely Passionate about some ideas. here are my ideas, they aren't really original because they have already been in other FF games but have a XI "style" to them:

With this job i've always wanted to see more G.axes being use in the game, though the war/mnk approach isn't too welcomed in advanced parties. i guess i kind of made a "stat attacker".
Viking Job: main weapons: Great Axe and Axe
2hr: Thor’s Hammer – Devastating Blow that leaves the enemy with elemental weakness, defense down, stun and slow.

Job Abilities
Lvl 5Taunt – causes foe to use aggressive moves while preventing defensive moves

Lvl 15Bash – Delivers an attack that can stun the target. (Shield or 2handed weapon)

Lvl 30Safeguard – prevents stat reduction for party members

Lvl 40Natures Power – Converts weather effect into stat increase.

Job Traits
Thrash – increases power of attacks as HP is reduced

This job i always think about when i get ready to do missions, especially the Promys where smns are sometimes hard to find. plus this job would take a fairly skilled player to pull off by knowing how to play each job effectively.
Mimic Job: main weapons: Dagger and Club
2hr: Role play – Copies the 2hr of the job selected

Job abilities:
Lvl 5Copycat – Temporarily Copies the job’s ability selected from party member
20min recast

Job Traits:
Lvl 30Impersonate – Temporarily Copies player’s sub jobs abilities

Spell list: (while no job is selected)
Barrier – Increase physical Defense
Membrane – Increase magical defense
Harass – Increase physical attacks
Torment – Increase Magical attacks
Accurateness – Increase accuracy
Truth – increase magical accuracy
Scope – Increase range accuracy
Scale – increase range attacks

These aren't complete but you get the gist of it. I'd like to see what other people may have thought of too. Its always fun to play the what if game :)

I had been hoping for a pirate job since the beginning and I got that so I'm happy.

War/mnk might not be that welcome, but I believe war/drg is still considered to be an excellent damage dealer.

I dunno if this in itself would deserve a new job. But I believe Great Hammers should be introduced. Just like Great Axe, but blunt damage. But if it did get a new job, Itd be something like Barbarian (But it would be too much like Warrior, so it deserves no new job)

But there are a couple jobs I would like to see introduces (FFT style)

-Mancer's
example: Pyromancers, Geomancers, etc.

(my post from an end-game thread)

If I were a designer... hmm.

1. I would make DRK 2hr able to stack with Weapon Skills. Makes no sense why it doesnt

2. I would add -mancer jobs. These jobs would be something like Geomancer, Pyromancer, etc. (before the "BLMs make up for that" replies start, hold on) Each mancer excels in only what its name implies. A Pyromancer would have nothing but Fire Spells, whether theyre enchancing, enfeebling or damaging.

Example of Pyromancer spell list:

Barfire I-II
Barfira I-II
Fire I-VI
Flare I-III
Blaze Spikes I-II
Enfire I-II
Burn I-II
(and several new spells)
(yes, new tiers because of what they specialize in)

Mancers will be able to melee, much like RDM's, but they will have more power, and will not be shunned from meleeing in early parties.

3. I would add a Necromancer. That seems to be a much wanted job anyway, and would be kind of cool, actually.

4. I would talk with the higher-ups, and suggest porting FFXI over to the Nintendo Wii (if they do make external hard-drves compatible, that is)

The problem with the mages that can only use a specific element is that unless they were ice/thunder, they would never get used and probably not get parties anywhere; since everything is weak to one or the other. If I'm fighting something that's not weak to fire, I'd never invite a pyromancer, you'd see that at all levels; the only reason black mages can get around that is because they can do multiple elements.

Necromancer was added in the form of PUP, SE said they wanted necromancer but with the day/night thing they'd be useless half the time so they made PUP instead.

I'm not sure a Wii version would work for an MMO.

About the Necromancers, I see why the would be pretty useless, but I think there couldve been a way to work around it. Like.. Give the Necromancer a Job Trait like Shadow Veil (idk, given at some level, but allows to call undead during the day IF the undead stay within a certain vicinity of your char), and have the Shadow Veil distance get further with every 20 levels or something.

A nice way that the wii could be used with this MMO would be a code(such as Content ID) you can use it to manage your inventory and transfer gil between mules and check and mark off purchases from ah

it would come with a ffxi copy of the game, for those who like to manage their shit

Hehe, I really dig this one! That would be a fun job to impliment into the game I think :D :D

>.< am I the only one sick of seeing necromancers in games? If i wanted to play some corpse loving emo freak, i'd just go play every other fantasy game ever made.

Viking in the past has been primarily the only class with Provoke as well. A Viking is basically the same as the Warrior class, since Warriors already have an A+ in Great Axe.

You know, I never use smileys. Hate 'em. But this calls for one.

:nyam:

I know what I'm about to say really has nothing to do with the OP, but you made me think of some suggestions I had way back in the day, when I was an alla forum whore rather than a qcdn forum whore.

Any way, my point is that warriors in FFXI aren't just Barbarian maniacs, as much as a lot of people on the forum love that wild-berserker image. We're fighters. Our AF gear is gladiator-esque studded leather, not loin cloths and body oil. Sure, we CAN go all-out, balls-to-the-wall attack if we want, not giving a thought to our defense. Or we can go all out defense to bide our allies time. Really, we're about combat in all of it's forms, not just any one person's personal ideal.

Touche... I do get a bit ravelled up in the steel-swinging-psycho sort of feel about our job, so your examples never even crossed my mind. I can see how an Evasion Bonus would suit the job... but hey, just for sh*ts and giggles... here's my attempt at a suggestion for a new War JA that is both gentle and fair!

Rampaging SturmRush lv60 JA
Duration: one attack
Recast: 14 days (real life)

As soon as activating this JA, the Warrior is presented with their equipment window. The warrior will be allowed to dual-wield a pair of Great Axes for the duration of this JA.

When the weapons are chosen, the equipment window will close and the client's viewpoint will shift from their current view to the eyes of the mob being attacked. The mob will, nanoseconds before the JA fires, suddenly get a bajillion hate points on the warrior, and will be looking at him/her. Then it happens.

Ten swings from each hand carve into the mob like a wood chipper into a watermelon. Each hit is accompanied by the bladder-shattering boom of a thermonuclear detonation; the associated visuals fill the entire zone with pure blinding light and burningness. Rather than do that dumb little twitch that mobs normally do when you hit them, this JA causes the mob to do it's death animation - on each hit - and then stand up again right away (resembling a Vanilla Ice-esque dance move). As background music to the huge attack, there is some badass metal riff drilling into everyone's skulls. But wait, there's more! What is a badass metal riff without ninjas? Billions of tiny little rabid ninjas start jumping out of the axes as they flail wildly in the air. They all jump straight into the monster's mouth or other available opening (I will leave it at that), each one targetting a different organ or intestinal subsystem and not resting until they've shredded it into something resembling jelly.

When the attack is complete the mob waivers in the wind for a bit... and then some random foreign satellite falls on it, causing the mob to explode a thousand times.

I dunno... what do you guys think?

Now we come to my number 2 man, his name: Number Two.

when I first came to the boards I thought that warrior was shooting purplish eye beams at something. I think that would be a good JA for us to have in the next update.

Cmdrfly uses Eyeball-Lasers of Hurting and Death.
The Tunnel Worm takes 4 points of damage.
Cmdrfly>> ...

As cool as it would be, SE would have to nerf it so we don't flood the server with war's trying to shoot laser beams all over the damn place like crazy pistol-totin' Mexicans in a saloon full of wenches and cowboys. But hey, while we're dreaming, I'd like to see the animation for Rampage replaced with something a little more... drastic.

The warrior would ready the WS by holstering his weapon, opening his arms out, tilting his head up to the sky...

Then suddenly a MOAB would rise up out of his throat, fly a couple hundred meters into the air, then burst and spread thick burning napalm across the entire zone; as an added effect, the damage would torch the countryside for one Vana'diel week. At the same time, numerous little RPG's would fly out of his fingers, ears, and nose, all homing in on the target while a select few would stray off and detonate on any nearby wyverns, just because... really... they drive pretty much all non-drg jobs insane.

By now, the warrior would be completely ignited in flame from the napalm, so as a final blow in the WS, he would run towards the enemy, pimp-slap the mob so bloody hard it does a twirl or two as it falls to the ground, then jump on the mob like it was the Martian Rover and ride it down the nearest canyon. Just as the warrior (still in flames mind you) begins to walk back to his party, he summons Titan to push up a tombstone at the head of the mob. He then pulls a smoke out, lights it on his nipple, and starts walking with that badass "you wish you were me" saunter.

They still haven't replied to these suggestions, but I'm sure they're working on implementing them.

PINK MAGE:

- wears makeup instead of armour
- A+ attack with shoe
- summons various annoying small dogs in purses

Spells: talk- AoE enemy enfeeble of deaf with massive range
perfume - choke enfeeble
hairspray - poisonaga IX
Gossip - charisma down effect on target
Cellphone - increases the effect of "gossip"
High heals - Gravity effect

2 hr : Nag - all enemies within the zone despawn

"This... what? You threw your shoe at me? Who throws their shoe these days? Honestly..."

Not really, they are needed. You need a melee class, a healer class, and a nuker. Necromancer is in more than just those two games and if you look around you'll find them in alot more than just MMOs.
If you want Necromancers in Final Fantasy, go play the new FFV or FFIII or whatever one added it to their roster.

I lol'd! Very funny. One suggestion for the 2hr ability name> Naggzilla

We really dont need any more jobs for ffxi if it must be then make their top skills the weapons that no one uses for pt use ie club and staff and make better versions of clubs and staffs for melee use there are endgame whm clubs but it only gets good when you are 75...

Warrior pretty much IS berserker/viking. Lower defense for attack, lower evasion for accuracy... Warcry... Axes... They just decided to call it Warrior instead.

I think this game is pretty well fleshed out on the job front so far, but one thing that's missing IMO is an item-based healer. The WHM equivalent of NIN.

Chemist.

Necromancer, if implemented, would more or less just be Beastmaster, Undead style. Most other classical FF style jobs that haven't been implemented yet would basically just be an alternate version of a job that already exists.

Some of the few that would still have a place, though -

Geomancer - Unknown how the heck it would actually work in FFXI but it'd play rather different from BLM. In FFV, Geomancy did not use MP (IIRC) but was instead an ability. Melee DD with elemental nuke JAs? Slightly nerfed melee DD that can MB using his JAs? Would be neat. Maybe instead of requiring certain terrain for certain abilities, they could just get enhancements based on terrain... or zone, or something. It'd be a little limited, though. Needs work.

Dancer - This would be tricky but I'm thinking something along the lines of Bard but with less Enhancing and more Enfeebling. Stat down songs. Might be broken in combination with a bard, though. Maybe more like COR roll style debuffs - kill mob critical hit rate, double attack rate, etc. Possibly have dance buffs be very powerful but only allow ONE per Dancer. Definitely needs work.

Mystic Knight - Now, I know every Red Mage is going to scream WHAT, BUT ENSPELLS ARE OURSSSSSSS rabble rabble rabble, but RDM only gets Tier 1 enspells. Mystic Knight in FFV had access to every Black Magic, including enfeebling, as an "enspell". Now, obviously, this would need some heavy adjustment and major pick-and-choose work with the spell list, and annoyingly enough it'd be another Sword-wielding Mage/Melee hybrid. In this case, though, I propose to ditch most of the spellcasting concept and make this a highly capable melee DD, with the higher tier Enspells bumping the generally weak damage of Swords up to the ranks of higher class DDs. Make the job incapable of equipping daggers. Needs some work but should be very easy to fit in.

Now, I also had one other concept that I wanted to throw out. We have two tanks, currently. Paladin, and Ninja. Paladin is a recovery based tank - somewhat self-sufficient by simply taking the hits, blocking a little with the shield, but still taking them.. and then self-Cures to recover. Ninja tanks based on the Blink spell. What about a potential Stoneskin-based tank? Now, obviously, this wouldn't be easy to balance. A stoneskin tank capable of weathering attacks from ITs for extended periods could end up being the most broken solo job ever created - there would definitely have to be some limitations. Some ideas I had were things like - the job cannot attack while its Stoneskin-based ability is active, the Stoneskin would scale according to the attacker's level to prevent it from lasting too long against weaker mobs, etc. Other ideas I had were maybe make the job have relatively low HP but high MP, with the MP being the "stoneskin" source, and give the class JAs that can recover/regenerate MP - but this could be broken if the job could be subbed. Needs a lot of work.

Geomancer would be a fun job. It used the ability called "Gaia" to use the surrounding weather/terrain to cause damage. Not sure if that is how it could be implemented in FFXI, but like you said, just give certain enhancements depending on the terrain would be a good idea.
