FFXI Wikipedia Interview with FFXI Developers

Yeah, Im just saying... Theyre constantly testing the game, new things, old things, finding things that are messed up and etc... They probably already know hes very hard, but I have no doubt whatsoever that he can be killed. In fact, it will probably end up being a rather short fight compared to what many players experience.
AV have been exactly the same for 2 years though. Someone at the SE office should have noticed no one have killed him since the ninja fix.

I, too, have said he is beatable somehow. Hence why I posted a theory. He haven't even popped once since then, and thus have been unable to try anything out. My point is, no one have beaten him. And no one knows how to beat him. Hence he is unkillable until someone figures out how to kill him.
Which part?

Dev team is Japeneese?

Why wouldn't they be? Square Enix is a Japanese owned corporation. Their development teams have always been Japanese. The only time I can think of an American developer was in FFVII with the added Ruby and Emerald weapons. The translators for the game tend to be American that is why on NA versions of games you will see some English names after the developers names are rolled. Of course you could have development teams that are both Japanese, European, American, Australian, or African. In SE's case though they are normally all Japanese until the game goes multinational.

quick ninjar: I believe FFXI that SE has released that only used translators for the multinational release then keep development strictly in Japan.

i would just like to see number of people the Dev team uses against AV. i can just see them having like a billion people there decked out in HQ, relic weapons, aegis plds, and so on.

and something totally different, i'd like to know what exactly they plan to put in that empty slot next to a 2-handed weapon... cuz both your hands are on the Gaxe or w/e right? so its not like it'll be a shield or something.

an idea i just thought of was like, a grip. like... custom leather grip on the gaxe. it would make a whole new line for leathercrafters, and they could put things like +haste, acc, or attack on em.... something like that. like i said just a random idea, lol.

Probably something like that, Sheath's for GKT's etc. However knowing SE they will be awful.

GKT Sheath
Masamune's Saya: Subtle Blow+1, INT+2

Or maybe they will just be DMG + items

I dont think these sub items will suck too bad, really.. But Im sure they will be things that will increase the output damage and/or speed of the 2h weapon.

SE wants to make 2handers better, because theyre kind of being left out in nowhere.. Unless youre pals and make pts with buddies.

Otherwise, WAR's with GA, SAM, and DRK get little love.

I'm curious to see some of these developments, like obtaining ToAU Relic gear.

And definitely curious to see how they are going to "fix" crafting. I, personally, think some of the design aspects of this game(crafting being one) are brilliant. However, it's obvious that after a while it will get bogged, as it has.

Whatever they do is going to be interesting, assuming it won't be some quick-patch fix.

Well apparently AV's strength has something to do with the mobs around, if his regen slows by killing the other mobs. I wonder what would happen if you killed all the Aerns in the immediate area and farther areas. I dunno, maybe if you kill all of one job, it can't use that 2hr anymore or something like that, and you have to just keep killing then as they pop.

I'd rather have them give clues or tips rather than beat it for eveyone to see the method.

As far as the adjustments, I hope they don't nerf a lot of jobs trying to balance the game.

Stopping his regen doesn't help in any way =/ I wish those people interviewing would ask the real question we want them to ask. Being, how the fuck do we stop his 2-hour spammage and ability to wipe an entire alliance in a matter of seconds.

I still bet that has something to do with the mobs in the immediate, and maybe the not so immediate area. But if asked all they'll say is they can't tell you, and they still think it's beatable. Of course the people who designed it know how to beat it, they designed the weaknesses.

Yes, thing is, they probably think just lowering his Regen makes him beatable, since they probably never actually tried killing him, and think that it won't be a problem with him using 2-hours an unlimited amount of time.

In an earlier interview, when they were asked if the dev team had actually beaten AV, they replied with "We'll go back and try again".

that does sound like a nifty strategy. I mean, having one bunch of people fight AV, while several other bunches kill all the aerns around. Not something Ive heard of anyone trying.

Actually.. I beleive that's been tried since i remember hearing about that once or at the very least people were killing all the other jailers at the same time in an attempt to see if that did anything.

But did they RE-pop the jailer again, afterwards? Could be that perhaps if the specified jailer is killed, than that 2hr will be blocked for X amount of time... Then pop again and kill again?

Or is this known to 100% not work?

Also, Killing aerns the entire time that another alliance is fighting AV I suppose ould put some people off...

But you wont ever know how unless you try every single thing possible, and logical. Even if its running circles around him.

Where do you all think the Time Machine/Portal will be located? No other place than Cid's Lab in Bastok. That's the home of the greatest minds in science. ;D

Regarding AV, the dev team can switch On and Off the "unkillable" button anytime they want...

I vote for Horutoto ruins. I remember there are some useless doors in the room where you farm the item for Aspir scroll.

And what about that tunnel in Kazham? Near the AH's

And the bridge in Bastok Mines. Its blocked off.

popping and Killing jailers as AV was being fought.

Go do Bastok missions. It's just a cutscene area. And if you poke around in Dynamis-Bastok (where there isn't a guard to say gtfo) you'll see there's nothing actually *there*.
