FFXI's Final Day

If I still had my account, I would probably take the boat out to the Purganorgo Isle to watch the sunset one last time. I spent a lot my time in the game alone, so that is how I would go out.

I wonder why...?

Do what I did every day, try to take over the world!(with Odon of course)

MPK everyone possible.

The day they announce shutting down the servers I don't think I'll bother logging back on.

I'll wander around my house for months feeling lost and abandoned.

I think i'd get everyone that i know on my f-list on msn or aim so we can then move onto another game together. FFXI-wise... shout in jeuno to everyone to come to ulli and have the whole spawn area full of ppl and see the gil-sellers sweatdrop.
I don't think the gilsellers would be here anymore if the game was ending....

.... and can I touch your skin?

Seriously though, i spend alot of time as a loner too. I dont have alot of in-game good friends, just a whole load of acquaintences. Im not sure why that is.

Yeah, same. I knew a lot of people, and I seemed to be known by a lot of people, but never really had that many great in-game friends. There are a couple, but I would just talk to them through /tell, and would never actually see anyone.

This is pointless if you're a-ok with the Fomors. Fomor don't aggro me at all. Except their retarded cousins in Aht Urghan.

I'd have long quit before the "final day." I mean, shit.. Everquest is still going. They have A NEW expansion in the works with A NEW race. And <100k Subscribers. I reinstalled over the summer and used some of the free play time I've allocated to tool around on the two new servers they put up, and the server I played on originally (Luclin) was fucking barren. It was even merged with another server at some point in time.
out curosity is "the nameless" still one servers up?

I'd try to kill Myrrh before he could kill himself.
You know you're loved when other people want to kill you ^_^

No, it's not. But Square-Enix has other sources of income that can keep the game going with a low subscriber rate. SOE does not, but yet EverQuest remains. And has a lot more active server content than FFXI, requiring more upkeep. FFXI will still be profitable with a subscriber count well below EQ's current amount.

Square-Enix has their many franchises they can theoretically pull reserves for the game from the profits. SOE only really has EverQuest. Star Wars Galaxies was killed. EverQuest 2 is less popular than EverQuest 1. PlanetSide has been on the backburner ever since Core Combat, but even then it didn't pull many subscribers to begin with. Does anyone even play The Matrix Online? EQ's subscriber count peaked below FFXI's peak(550k vs. 650k.) As well, it's decline has not been as sharp as EQ's. July '05 to July '06, EQ suffered almost 300,000 subscriptions. FFXI only 150,000 and has remained pretty steady around the 500,000 mark up until the mass cheater/rmt bannings.

A lot of people forget that this is the 4th biggest subscription-based MMO in the world. Behind WoW(#1,) Lineage(#2) and Lineage II(#3.) Considering it has no Korean servers, it might as well be #2.

EverQuest has been around for going on 8 years. FFXI has been around for going on 5, and is already showing signs of atleast matching EQ's current streak. Their subscriber increase trend is largely the same, with FFXI going higher in count, but FFXI's drop-off is no where near as quick as EQ's. Yet, anyway.

In the two years since EQ's peak, 400,000 people have quit it. In the year since FFXI's "peak," only that 100. In the same time since EQ's peak, FFXI has lost a "net" of 50,000 subscribers(barring the last few months.) I see EQ stopping at a decade old. I see FFXI matching that with ease. Hell, Ultima Online *IS* hitting 10 years old.
well even PSO for dreamcast still has it personal online server.
One other note you have to agree everquest was dam perfect for a mmo. They had great economy, quest was great, Lvling was great, there spell memorizing system was good. GM system was above none. There pvp system cant be beat either. Loved the faction system. I really miss that game, not that I don't like ffxi because it has alot of great feature as well, above all the ability to change jobs one 1 toon and with subjob. Great story line Incorporated into the game.Though wish there was one place you can view all your old movies instead of traveling all over the world to see a segments. FFxi future really depend on SE. They continue to add expansion people will stay.

Goto one of the HNM camps and CFH it, see how fast the entire room can take it down. (Probably settle for a Kirin)
