i dunno, but I'll log on to both to beable to talk to everyone :P

FFXIV is...weird.

It's designed so that solo play is incredibly possible, but is only really enjoyable with a group...

The repair system is really quite bad, to be honest. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't quite see your point of "having" to craft. While it helps, you don't definatley have to do it. Once more content is added this will be even further the case (NMs, etc) which is coming soon I believe (December update I think

Something *real* profitable for non-crafters is selling crystals/shards (especially wind/fire/earth) as well as certain drops from mobs. (Not marmot meat... please god not marmot meat!)

I'm hoping they'll add something like a "Leather Repair Kit" or "Gold Repair Kit", etc. That would repair anything to 100%, something that crafters could make and sell to everyone. Nothing too hard, but would definatley be nice. I can see the repair thing being a real problem down the line if something isn't done about it.

Actually if you don't understand why crafting is required due to the repair system let me try to spell it out for you. You can't always count on others to fix your stuff...in fact it's pretty impossible to do so in most games. I also don't know what inflation(if any) has/or will hit FF14(causing crafters to charge insane amounts to fix things...espc. rare things) . There's also the possibility that over time the crafters will get very tired of fixing other people's stuff(constant requests) and tell you to go away(AKA: Fix it Yourself!).

This particular part here I don't really see happening. Fixing gear for people is some of the quickest easiest gil you can make in game. I constantly see people offering 2-3k (sometimes much more) for repairs that cost me a couple hundred gil to make mats for.

WHM duties. Some of the easiest things to make money at, but eventually, you just didn't want to bother anymore. That and bots were written that handled teleport duties, but the point still stands. I can remember quite a few threads on the flameboard back in the day that basically revolved around a WHM not wanting to interrupt what they were doing in order to raise/teleport someone, even when cash was offered. The same principle applies here.

I was running through the forest back to Gridania and some random dude got mad cause I let him die. He knew I was a Conjurer....I'm like....I'm sorry I don't spend every waking moment spam targeting people to see their HP gauges.

I guess you can't read... so let me quote it for you ^^ I said, "If it wasn't for that [repair system], I wouldn't quite see your point of "having to craft"

But, luckily, they are fixing the whole issue of how fast stuff wears down. That should help, cause weapons sure do go fast.

How is FFXIV doing? Have any of the recent updates fixed any of the big things yet?

According to my roommate, it's a huge leap forward. But I'm personally still waiting until at least the December update before I get my hopes up and try again.

This is coming from someone who really loves it - I think you should wait.

The positive, the UI lag is so much better. My computer went from clunky movement, slow menus, and sometimes almost become non-responsive at parts for about 2 minutes to virtually no lag at all. Menus are fast, clean and great. Can have two chat menus, and overall, a huge step in the right direction.

There is one thing they did though, that has and could potentially, ruin this game for me if it doesn't get fixed. The SP change. Before, you tried to "proc" your SP points. Now, you get a set amount like XI per mob. Sounds better, right? Well, it is up to maybe about rank 20. My highest job is rank29 thaumaturge, and for the past 2days, I've tried to make the best of this SP at high levels. I can't anymore. The max I could earn is about 6-8k an hour. And doing what? Mindless killing tons of easy mobs for about 50~90sp a kill. Not fun, and I can't last doing it.

I was forced to kill weak mobs because unlike the low ranks, high ranks get about 150 for killing something that is considered hard/red. Mobs that could potentially one-shot you. So no, they aren't worth it by any means. I'm sure it will be corrected, or well, praying. Because I know I will not get to rank 50 getting 50~90sp a kill. It won't happen.

for the sp gain is it the same for crafting as well?

That sucks man :( I haven't touched the game post-update, but if it's going to be one huge korean-style grindfest I might just give up :/
Is partying giving worthwhile sp? (assuming you can actually find a pt..)

@Jyak: No, DoL and DoH jobs are great! No change

@Isanien: I think they absolutely have to change it, and I'm sure they will make some necessary changed. It's starting to resemble the XI battle system. You don't have to "proc" your sp anymore, so everyone gets the same, everytime, from every mob. The numbers you get are just far too low. And when you need 33,000 sp to gain a rank, gaining 50-90 a mob doesn't cut it. I hope it's resolved by the december update, I wouldn't give up on it tho! Still a lot great about it. (Overall, the patch was quite good)
*And at this time, partying *used*to be worth it. But its not in this current state. Hard mobs aren't worth it.

I seriously doubt SE won't make another adjustment in regards to party SP, so I find it nothing to stress over. But for the time being, I'd just ignore mid/high jobs and focus on leveling other jobs to 20, or try a DoL since their sp is pretty static. Crafting it slightly improved as well with reduced shard costs and, more shard/crystal drops, and hefty shard reward increases from leves; of course though, crafting isn't for everyone. If one really insists on leveling mid/high jobs, battle leves seem to be the most engaging at the moment, but I'd recommend doing lowbies until SE addresses and balances SP. I believe they're heading in the right direction...Just use discretion for the time being. It sucks for some, but an optimistic attitude sees it as a wonderful chance to get many or all jobs to 20 relatively quickly. On another positive note, I see far more people looking and seeking for parties to do leves together.

Lag, UI lag, UI changes are some items I feel the need to bring up well. It'd be a pain to put it into words, but lets just say it's way more user friendly.

Another change that occured was one that went unnoticed at first, and that's battlewardens. They are actually worth it now, especially when you're joining parties and getting credit for each other's kills at 150-300 a pop for extremely fast and frequent rate. The 5 to 10 minutes invested in a BW with a fair amount of people might yield several thousand sp. The good news too is more people having been doing them since the SP changes.

In closing, if you were on the fence about XIV, then the November update should be enough to make you moderately enjoy it. However, if you absolutely couldn't stand it before, then the update will probably make you feel on the fence about it. Of course those that liked it like it even more for the most part. If you would label yourself in the group of people that hated XIV at first, then I recommend wait at least 1 more update. Everyone else, there might be something for XIV to offer you now, or at the very least one can start to see the potential of what's to come with some sense of excitement or belief.

They are progressing along alot faster than I thought they would.

what is a battle warden :/

The update is nice... i hope they adjust the SP, but procing seems silly, because you could essentially just spam your weakest ability and not try to play to your fullest. Maybe something in between, like crits give you an extra SP or something just to top you off.

This was the biggest problem I had pre-update. My LS mates were getting just about double the SP per hour than I was. They can tell you, I was using every ability I had on CON to try to make it proc but nothing really worked. Even Cures didn't proc as much. It was getting really annoying. I don't mind the linear EXP gain method but the output from killing mobs should be a lot higher since they reduced the VIT : HP and MND : MP ratios. I went from being able to handle hits to not being able to last long without curing alot :)
