Battlewardens take place every hour on the hour at all major camps.
Essentially what happens is X amount of people sign up with the npc that appears about 5 minutes before it starts.
Once it begins a number of enemies will appear, the amount is increased when more people sign up. Once an enemy is claimed, that enemy and other enemies in that enemy's party are all claimed and will only engage the attacking person or party. Once all enemies are defeated, a harder enemy or enemy group will appear. Upon completion everyone that participated can collect a some amount of gil from the npc. It's about maybe 3-5 for rank 10 or 15 camp BWs.
No one did them prior to the update, and thanks to the SP changes, now people do.
All SE has to do with sp as this point is adjust how much parties get, especially for kills of enemies that con even match or harder. Then moderate amounts of grinding will be worth the time, and everyone should be satisfied.
