Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread (the 2nd)

Why are you guys arguing over this, who cares? Its on two platforms, does it really matter to you, the consumer? Are you not going to buy it anymore because it isnt PS3 only?
This is what I'm wondering, but Gerry/Elemmire are leading the charge, so who knows.

@Baja
In an interview for 13 they said they wouldn't start porting to 360 until the ps3 version was done. If a game takes longer to make because it shifts to two platforms instead of one, then it takes longer. Release date announcements and delays to said date are irrelevant.

Edit: I'm not making a case for something to not be ported, simply arguing semantics of saying a port doesn't cause a delay. I honestly don't care if it does or not, I will get to play it either way because I have a ps3.

I said I don't really care, but it really does still seem like the FFXIII release for PS3 was delayed due to the port of 360. I never said it was necessarily a long wait but it was loner. I would rather if they finish with one version they just release it earlier since it wasn't planned to be multi-plat from the start. It's far more an annoyance that so many (mostly 360 fanboys I know) seem to think it's ok they get a game first, but not the other way around for the Wii/PS3 games. Ah well.

Still, I'd hope come Versus if they do announce later it'll be for 360 too that they're going to just up and release the PS3 version first and finish the 360 in the meantime. Unless, of course, they really feel they want to finish polishing the PS3 version.

There has to be a more efficient way of exping, Im sick of looking for turtles in the dessert to do the damn death thing over and over. I just recenty beat the game, havent maxed out a stage 10 class yet, about 3 crystals away.

Try the Behe/Wolf for xp until you are strong enough to kill the turtles on your own.

Why are you guys arguing over this, who cares? Its on two platforms, does it really matter to you, the consumer? Are you not going to buy it anymore because it isnt PS3 only? The only people imo, that have a right to bitch about exclusives being scrapped for multi-platform are the people that buy both platforms for the exclusives (Like me), and I dont even care.

This is what I'm wondering, but Gerry/Elemmire are leading the charge, so who knows.

Exclusives though bring out THE BEST of each console though because the time and effort was put into that single version, when you make something multi-platform, you have to ensure that each version that's made is as equal as it can be.

For example:

PS3: Uncharted 2, Valkyria Chronicles, God of War 3, MGS4
360: Lost Odyssey, Gears of War 2, Crackdown, Halo 3
Wii: Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, No More Heroes 2

Each of those games takes the best parts of each console's hardware and pushes them (At their respective time of release) to their respective limits, and I'm sure many of you guys will agree they are fantastic. Why? Because the developers of those games stuck to the what the hardware could do and pushed the hardware to it's limits.

Now, FFXIII, granted, it does look good, but imagine if you will what the game could have been if it stayed exclusive, without having to worry about hardware limits or disc space. That content that was cut? Maybe it would have been there instead of those ridiculous diary entries that the game has. The linearity of the game might not have been so bad if this extra content was still there.

Now imagine what will happen if the same thing happened to Final Fantasy Versus XIII, a game that has been worked on for SEVEN YEARS, and already switched hardware once, albeit to more powerful hardware, and faces the prospect of going to somewhat weaker hardware as well, all because Wada has a boner for trying to get bigger in the West, even though they already are big here! That would mean content would have to be cut from all versions just to suit the 360 version, and make it a weaker version compared to what it could be. Would that then mean the world map that Nomura has been working incredibly hard on could be scrapped, potentially yes considering the hardware. Would certain extras like, I don't know, the Mini Games that FF Games had before could be cut as well? Could the story be condensed, instead opting for text entries in place of actual development in the story to save a little bit of extra space, yes!

Furthermore, let's say for sake of an example, using what Wada said about nothing being final when it comes to what console games release on, that this same crap happened to Dragon Quest X, currently in development for the Wii. Imagine if you will that Wada says "You know what, make DQX for the iPhone as well, the iPhone is popular in the West, and we'd get more sales." Can you possibly imagine how bad that would be? Think about it there.

Finally, I should also point out what Wada once said about this generation, he more or less said that he didn't want the PS3 to be the overwhelming winner this generation, but not to be the loser either. Fair enough, until you consider that the only PS3 game's they've released so far aren't even exclusives, compared to what they've given to the 360 had many more exclusives compared to PS3. Not only that, but most of these games haven't even broken 1 million units worldwide, save for the advertisements of the 360 version of FFXIII, which pretty much didn't acknowledge the PS3 version's existence, and it STILL lost to the PS3 version.

If Wada was a half way decent businessman, he'd go where the obvious money is, and stick to the PS3, PSP, DS, andWii when it comes to JRPGs. Hell, Square Enix even bought Eidos and is in command of several Western IPs such as Tomb Raider and Supreme Commander, so they even have the PC market open now, isn't that "Western" enough for him?

I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant to you guys, but when you try to state something fairly obvious, it kinda does sound like a rant in the end.

Exclusives brining out the best in their respective platforms really is a matter of opinion, and when your argument begins off an opinion which you later try to state as a fact by saying its obvious, hurts your argument. Ive had mixed results with some of the games you list so again, its just your opinion. I have MGS4 and I dont like it, I had GoW2 and I hated it. God of War to me, is alright, not that addicting. Uncharted 2 was amazing. Halo 3 was never as good as 2.

Its just a matter of opinion, hence why I dont care if games are exclusive, then get changed to multi. It really doesnt bother me, because I dont feel for example, that FFXIII would be significantly better had it been ps3 only.

Question, what was the big difference in FFXI for the PC and the 360? That game was made for PC first, then way later was released on the 360, I dont see a big difference there

X360 pros: easy to access macros
X360 cons: Using the keyboard was a little annoying, the resolution was really lame compared to PC, and the little popups that appear at the bottom telling you your friends are online were a constant distraction.

There really was no reason to switch to 360 if you had a functioning computer that could run FFXI. Also, you could get a peripheral controller for the PC thereby eliminating the one pro 360.

600k in NA and EU separately, give or take some thousand units, that's not really good, especially when it's FINAL FANTASY!

I dunno.

I wish SE would take a lesson from FFXI and just make MMOs on PC only. It's nice the PS3 and 360 are significantly more powerful than PS2 and X-Box respectively, but it's silly to have it on a system that can't be upgraded so you can't upgrade the game's engine itself like WoW is about to get another and other MMOs have had their engines upgraded to extend their life span. Oh well.

I had FFXI for the PC first, and I jumped to 360 because I enjoyed it much more, bigger screen, had less problem with lag. On top of that, a 360 is much cheaper than what it takes to run ffxi to its max on a computer. I also used a KB on the 360. Anyway point is, its just a matter of preference. The things you listed were just controls, Gerry is pointing out that he thinks the actual game will suffer if its made multi-plat.

At the end of the day, multi-plat games are available to more gamers, like it or not, we're all part of that community. Again, idk how the industry works but im assuming more money, could lead to more games being made. If companies have more money, they can keep updating and fixing games via patches and such. There is no way to prove that a game suffers because of it becomming multi-plat. Hell, ive got ps3 and 360, most of my friends have just one, and I'd wish they had access to all the same games I do.

Gerry if I may ask, do you only have a PS3?

No, I have all the consoles of this current Gen. I'll even take a picture of them all together if you want.

Its just a question, no need to be a smartass really.

And this is where you fall on your face in this whole thing. NOTHING was cut from the game by making it multi-platform. It would have been exactly the same as it is now, only on one less console and making SE a lot less money. You're the only one who's harping on something that never existed in the first place.

For goodness sake... I give up, I've tried to be reasonable with this, especially when the interviews with the developers point some truth to what I say, but it's clear that you aren't giving a damn about this. Bear in mind though that while you say that I don't have evidence for such things occurring during development (Even though the interviews, as I said, point out to some truth on this matter), nothing you say can prove your point either! You haven't exactly given evidence such as cited interviews with developers, all you've said can be summed up as "No." Considering that the main argument for this is that SE stated themselves that, for lack of better words, wanted to make both versions EQUAL, yet you've thrown out any possibility of content being cut to keep things equal as childish.

Why the hell should I even bother with this any more when it's clear that any reasoning I make is going to be ignored.

How about because you haven't proven a thing? You're the only one making claims about them removing tons of content from the game, so you're the only one that actually has to prove anything. You're the one using your fanboyism as the entire basis for your arguments. "the PS3 is vastly superior, so obviously they had to cut out tons of content to make FF13 work on the 360."

SE never said they were scaling the game back after it went multi-platform; that line about "making both versions equal," that's most likely in reference to graphics and functionality than content. There's nothing inherent to removing content in "we're making sure both versions are equal." If anything, "making both versions equal" just means that they're not going to half-ass the port, and that they're going to make the 360 version just as good as the PS3 version; not bring the PS3 version down any. There's no space limitations on the 360 either, when you're already making the game span multiple discs; so there's zero reason to cut anything for "space."

You're still making a blatant assumption with zero proof; pretty much the same thing I'm doing, but you're going overboard with any and all implications and throwing a bitchfit about assumptions. You're the one lacking "reason."

I thought there were links in this or the first thread of FFXIII that had interviews stating they removed some features from PS3 version cause of space limitations with the 360's version hmm. Still, as I said they were the options of alternate language (so Japanese instead of English). Though that's not really content of the games themselves if that's what Baja means which I think he's right then :P in terms of the game itself, nothing was prolly lost. Just added bonuses that'd have been nice, but not needed (i.e. nothing changing to the gameplay, story, characters, world or the development of them)

Why did we go from this game being on the 360; to "My Hands" sucking; to actual, and good, discussions about the game itself; and back to this being on the 360 again? Why does it even matter at this point? The game is already out now so really, can we get back to discussing the game itself? I enjoyed reading and replying to this thread when it was actually about the game. Now it's just a bunch of stupid shit again.
