Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

OOO I like it actually. To be fair, after I buy it, I won't see it that much anyway, I'm more likely just to see the side of it that says FFIII on it.

Well I'm glad. I love that cover. It's not messy and overloaded with characters like FF9 and FF12. Looks awesome with just Lightning there.

FFIV DS had the best box art ever, though.
JP one, mind you. US one was that shitty logo on white background.

The link doesn't work unless put in the URL bar, fyi

But yeah, that one is much more badass. I like it, mostly because its the original art and stuff.

Some more information on weapon system, missions, etc:

WEAPONS CUSTOMIZATION SYSTEM

* Weapons can be customized using a web-site while on Cocoon, or at standard save points for all other areas.
* Each character has a fixed weapon type they can use, with multiple variations available throughout the game.
* Material required for weapon customization can be acquired from shops, drops, mission rewards, or treasure chests.
* Applying these materials is essentially like applying experience points in that at a certain point, the weapon levels up.
* Each weapon has a different level limit, once this limit is reached a weapon can be changed into a “Key Item”. Key Items are used to produce the best weapons in the game.

ACCESSORIES SYSTEM

* Characters appear to only have 3 stats: Attack Power, Magic Power and HP. Enhancements to individual characters come largely from abilities imbued into their accessories. These include simple stat increases to effects such as auto-haste (aww yeah…) etc.
* Multiple accessories can be equipped.
* Equipping multiple accessories with the same boosting effects to a single character results in a bonus.

MISSIONS

Throughout Pulse the player can find a number of inscribed monuments (pictured above) which designate monsters that need slaying. Once the player accepts a mission, if the target monster is located it will read “MISSION” above its head (top picture). Your mark will sometimes be a very common monster, and sometimes a very tough creature. Some images have been released of especially large critters, such as this mega-cactuar dubbed Jyabotenda:
After the target beast is felled, you can return to the monument for your reward. Some missions are repeatable while some can only be cleared once. There is a ranking system (in game, not online as far as I know) and successful hunts increase your rank in relation to the marks difficulty.

ETC

It has been confirmed that this title’s Cid is named Cid Raines. He leads an air-ship and militia called Kiheitai. I would translate it to “Rough Riders”, although that doesn’t really “historically” hold any water, I just think it sounds cool. It also appears that Cid is not an enemy to l’Cie, but more a neutral party who I would guess may become a sympathizer. In the final trailer, the fiery man accompanying him is named Captain Rigby.

Lastly, Vainlle’s summon is indeed (as a certain commenter suspected) Hecatonchires. This is of course the first appearance of this Eidolon in the Final Fantasy series.

So is the weapon upgrade system kinda like 8's? Where you can't change your weapon once you upgrade it?

You could just re-equip the lowest level weapon and try again, it's more like Dark Cloud/Rogue Galaxy's way of synthesizing weapons, with different combinations of items leading to a different solution. And it seems there is also ways to de-level weapons as well.

Ah I loved that system <3 we need more Dark Cloud games.. Dark Cloud 3 yes please! (White Knight Chronicle is taking too long state-side release :( )

Famitsu review (for those who care about reviews, or Famitsu)

10: "Although the game is linear until the midway point, the story is substantial, like no FF before it, with its own distinctive appeal. The battles based around changing characters' roles are fresh and highly strategic. The tempo is speedy and you get very excited when fighting strong enemies. Being able to restart battles is a user-friendly feature I'm happy about.

9: "Unquestionably the highest echelon of event and movie scenes. Moreover, changing Optimas on a dime, the varied abilities and being able to use multiple magics at once bring real exhilaration to the battles. That high quality is unfortunately offset by a story that stays linear until the midway point. The lack of gimmicks during the middle of the game also worried me."

10: "The overwhelming graphics expressing every nook and cranny of this unique world, along with the praiseworthy direction, moved me!! The battle system is applicable both to beginners and micro-managers. The fights progress quickly, and have ratings, so you never grow tired and can always battle with a feeling of urgency. The melancholic story is also so dramatic, you can't tear your eyes away from it."

10: "I doff my hat to the overwhelming graphics and story. Since the game's various systems become denser as the story progresses, you find yourself pulled ever deeper into the experience. The summon battles take careful planning and strategy, so I was frustrated a few times, but the feeling of achievement when you win is something special. You'll be sorry if you don't play this!"

Total: 39/40

I still say Famitsu is a meh reviewer :P but I'm sure they're reviewing for a different crowd than general game reviewers? I dunno. Specially since they gave FFXII a 40/40 makes me go "ugh, they suck for taste". But, to each their own XD some interesting things they do like that do sound interesting about it like the restart battles sounds something that's prolly nice.

I think it's pretty fair. What with the game recently being hyped as having all these side missions and stuff, being unable to access them until halfway through the game is a valid gripe.

I'm sure the game will be good still :3

Especially since, despite it being linear 'till mid-game, and side-missions etc. being unavailable until mid-game, it still got a 39/40.

Oh, no doubt about that. Seeing a near-perfect review only makes me want the game more.

I never said the game would be bad, I just don't see a reason to trust Famitsu :P They tend to really overhype a lot of games (from SE especially) and I tend to find their scores too much for most of the games I've seen their reviews for. I'm sure FFXIII will be good, but "ZOMG NEAR PERFECT!" good? I dunno.
