Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

English version. I like all 5 main characters voices except for Oerba.

Indeed. Though, we've only heard, what, three lines from her? She could have her weak moments in terms of voicing, I just hope it isn't like that throughout the whole game.

Also, I noticed some changed dialogue in some places when compared with the Japanese version, that kinda annoys me. For example:

The scene with Hope and Snow at that railing, in the Japanese version, Hope is royally pissed off at Snow and says that Snow should just die (More or less). In the English version, he just goes nuts for seemingly no reason.

Get what I mean?

Nope, it said that in the English too, it was just more subtle. He asked what he deserved and Hope said (I think) "The same" which I'm assuming is to die also.

Hehe, the chick with glasses and cleavage that can reach the moon said erect.

All right. Now that It's been explained that way, I can the meaning behind it. Annoyance has subsided. I guess I didn't entirely see the subtlety in their words.

There is a huge mistranslation at the end. Serah (sp?) isn't suppose to tell Lightening she can protect her, but that she is wrong, Snow can protect her, he did protect her, and it's up to the BOTH of them to save Cacoon. Well, more to that effect than it all bein' about Lightening.

Anyway, as to be expected. Not bad but I can't say I'm "feelin' it" as much, some of the dialog is just corny in English (opening dialog gogo). It's probably just because they haven't done it yet, but I noticed the battle scenes kept the JP voices. I hope like hell we can at least use JP voices for battle.

I'd rather there be the option cause it's totally possible but they don't wanna cause of bullshit :( :P (though ya, I prefer dub to sub always)

I enjoyed it. If anything the new trailer makes me want to get the game more now.

The dark-haired chick in the latest trailer that spoke with the Australian accent is apparently the 6th party member, wields a spear (yay DRG?) and her summon is Bahamut, her name is Oerba Yun Fang.

Sazh's fire summon that has the gestalt mode of the car is Brynhildr/Brunhild (Shieldmaiden/Valkyrie in Norse Mythology, one of the myths is about her being sealed in a ring of fire/surrounded by fire). Ifrit is in the game but as an organic summon (ie no gestalt mode and not playable)

Anywho, my main party in XIII next year when it releases here will be Lightning, Sazh (possibly Vanille or Snow) and Fang.
Will definitely try out Hope too, maybe there will be a 7th character as well.

So, as I understand it, summons like Odin, Bahamut and Shiva are actual summons, who you can use, while others like Ifrit aren't exactly summons, but are ethereal beings who play a role in the story?
Confusing as fuck, we should just have summons who can TRANSFOOORM and those that can't.

Something like that, but it's still those who transform and those who don't.
Ifrit/Siren/Carbuncle/future ones are the ones who can't transform and you don't get them but they do play a part in the story as I'm understanding.

They are once again called Eidolons like IX and play a major role in the story, though there's only one Eidolon linked to each character, summoned from a crystal that sprouts from the character's mark of l'Cie. So if say Lightning isn't in your party (though she probably will have to always be) you couldn't use Odin, same with Fang and Bahamut, or Snow and Shiva, etc.

So that gives the party 6 summons (or 7 if a 7th character is revealed).

Probably the other summons pop up from enemy l'Cie, since a fal'Cie can mark people for greater purposes thus turning them into an l'Cie, which is how the whole thing starts when Lightning and gang are chosen against their will to become l'Cie.

Though maybe the party can get them for other uses, an interview said they didn't transform/weren't usable in battle, but maybe for other purposes for the group.

We shall see though when SE gives more information and the game releases in December in Japan and we get the beans spilled from importers/etc.

Nice Gilgamesh quote in your sig btw lol, just noticed it.
He was great in V (Advance) and was a blast to fight in XII, and fun to fight him in the Colosseum and get him as an Esper in VI Advance, and of course him replacing Odin in VIII, one of my favorite FF characters/summons, hopefully we see him return to his 4 armed self in XIV as opposed to the one we have in XI.

Here's some music from the game released on the official site

Chocobo Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDwAN90MKTo

Resistance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMacrDEwwsU

Lightning's Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ke281MBhpDg

Valiant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoDVPgkdqEs

I'm loving the new chocobo theme and how jazzy it is, and Lightning's Theme kind of reminds me of Terra's theme from FFVI as it incorporates some of the battle theme in it, but it kind of sounds like CT's main theme. Loving the rest of the tunes as well.

Glad to see that Masashi Hamauzu is doing a good job thus far on the soundtrack, and this one has no input from Uematsu at all. He did SaGa Frontier 2's soundtrack as well as did some of the songs in FFX.

while I love Jazz, I don't like that chocobo theme :( oh well. It's not bad but not great either.

And Masashi Hamauzi didn't do entire songs in FFX I think but helped Nomura. Also helped with FF8 and I think also FF7's One Winged Angel. At least I think that's what I've read somewhere.

I love that chocobo theme, so eh lol

And he did 20 of the songs in FFX on his own, didn't have anything to do with VII or VIII, that was all Uematsu.

Junya Nakano did 18 songs in FFX as well.

Hamauzu's 20 tracks are; "Besaid Island", "Blitz Off", "People of the North Pole", "Decisive Battle", "Attack", "Splendid Performance", "Confrontation", "Traveling Company", "Thunder Plains", "Macalania Woods", "Scorching Desert", "Crisis", "Start", "Wedding", "Tragedy", "I Can Fly", "Time of Judgment", "Wandering Flame", "Challenge", "To the End of the Abyss", and he did collaborations on 14 of the tracks with Uematsu, most being the "Song of Prayer - " ones, as well as "The Sight of Spira" and "Warping to Another Dimension".
Also did the whole DoC soundtrack.

What I've read is that Uematsu was the main composer and those two ASSISTED in the creation :P which is prolly why FFX still has a very FF music sound and then after that the series music has changed quite a bit. Not bad, mind you, just not the FF style music I've grown up with.

Oh ah here

"Hamauzu had a minor role in creating the soundtrack for the highly successful Final Fantasy VII; he was the synthesizer programmer for the rendition of Joseph Haydn's "The Creation", and provided bass vocals in the eight-person chorus for "One-Winged Angel"."

minor role :P

He did 20 of his own tracks, the ones I listed and collaborated with Uematsu on some of the others. Junya Nakano did 18 of his own as well and collaborated with Uematsu on some others as well.
All 3 were co-composers which does not equal to Uematsu being the main composer and assisted by them.

Uematsu did 35 tracks on his own, Hamauzu did 20, and Nakano did 18, the other 16 tracks were collaborations between either Uematsu/Hamauzu or Uematsu/Nakano, but they each did their own tracks that didn't have any assistance from Uematsu.

And I missed the part about VII, either way it's nothing big like composing SaGa, FFXIII or DoC, and Uematsu composed all of FFVII anyways, Hamauzu had no compositions in VII, and he wasn't a co-composer on "One Winged Angel"

The first normal series Final Fantasy featuring multiple composers, X's score is obviously different from everything that preceded it. Also, not having the same composing teams of the following games, it is different from them as well. Of course, as the setting and story of each game is unique, they are invariably distinct anyway. For Final Fantasy X, Squaresoft called upon three of its most well-tested composers, (as Ito, Mitsuda, and Hirota had already left the company), Junya Nakano, Masashi Hamauzu, and of course, Nobuo Uematsu.
Masashi Hamauzu wrote a good deal of the score for Final Fantasy X, and fresh off of the excellent SaGa Frontier II score, he creates more music the only way he can: multi-layered, filled with piano, and oddly compelling. Although SaGa Frontier II remains my favorite of his solo scores, some of the best Hamauzu is to be found within Final Fantasy X.

ah I see, I always thought Uematsu did all the work in FFX but not entirely alone (working with those two). Still, I'd say they styled more toward his in it than their other work cause it sounds significantly different than stuff that is their work alone. Although not bad :P I like their work over all too.

I still love the one composure woman that did the stuff for crystal chronicles and such

Hamauzu's sounds like his previous work to me.

But yeah, Kumi Tanioka is a good composer as well, she did some FFXI tracks too.

Yoko Shimomura is another one of my favorites, she did Kingdom Hearts, Super Mario RPG, Parasite Eve as well as the upcoming Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Of course there's also Yasunori Mitsuda (CT, Xenogears, Xenosaga), Koichi Sugiyama (DQ), Michiko Naruke (Wild ARMs), Miki Higashino (Suikoden I/II), Hitoshi Sakimoto (FFT/FFXII, Ogre Battle), Motoi Sakuraba (Tales of, Golden Sun, Star Ocean), Shoji Meguro (SMT), among several others. I love videogame/RPG music in general.
