Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

SE is a for-profit company. Of course they want more money.

cause doing it the way it was before wasn't enough money? O.o I mean, FF before was epic without "mainstreaming for the west" but I guess that's cause the original creators were more involved. What with FF6,7, 8 which have the most vocal fanbase of the series (clearly 7 being the most vocal of those 3) and having sold A LOT for them (again 7 being the king there too)

Yeah, Jade Villalon under the Sweetbox name was approached by SE to do 1000 Words, Real Emotion and 1000 Words (orchestral) for the English version of X-2 after they scrapped Koda Kumi's versions.

fair enough. With that though...do we know that they're scrapping the other songs? My point still stands that the song in a language I understand is better than one I don't and that this rage...really should just stop...

No we don't, we'll find out when the game releases.
And yeah, it should. The people raging are a minority, if they want to boycott the game go ahead, it won't affect SE or the profit they make. The contracts are already signed, if you refuse to play the English release of the game good for you, more power to you.

See, now you're not making sense. You say they want more money, and yet you're saying they had enough money?
I'm gonna laugh my ass off when it comes to light that Nobuo wholly approves of the new song.

But see..that's so stupid..You're boycotting the english version because of a fucking song? So to show your absolute rage...you'll go and buy the Japanese version? WAY TO SHOW SE who's boss...seriously this is so stupid.

(Not saying you are dude...just the example.)

Yeah, it's a song, it's at most going to play 2 times in the game, definitely once, 4 minutes of your life you can mute the tv.
I like the song itself and can see it fitting in the game, but some of the OMGLeonaLewisWTFisThisShitBBQQBoycotPetitionNotBuyingThisGameNow
people just need to get a grip on reality and realize it's a fucking song, get over it.

I said they were making money fine by not compromising (far as we know) crap XD and just sticking with the game entirely as they planned it (well wanted it for all regions). The only thing added were minor things (special bosses that did nothing except add a challenge). But this seems... more shallow than that to me. Cause music has a far greater effect on a game than an optional fight. I really don't care that much and I'll still get the game but it seems... meh to to do it. Still would have seemed easy enough to translate the songs they have to English.

As for Nobou "wholly approving" even if he said that doesn't necessarily means he believes it. He might just be polite or the company might have had him under contract to say that so there's no negative feedback from someone who's always been so closely tied to the series for years. Granted, he might mean it, but I never really take anything any dood in related to a game who is replaced says to praise the person they were replaced by (or whose work has replaced theirs') Most seem to just be bland praises outta courtesy.

On the contrary I feel like I'd probably spend more time on an optional boss rather than a theme song that plays once or twice during the game.

Well that's ridiculous, Tyrath, don't you realize we're talking about video games here? Why play them when we can listen to the music in it, right?

What I think Ele was meaning was, they were going to make tons of money anyway, until they shit on it all by replacing the main theme with such an awful song.

As for me the "You'll only here the song once or twice", yeah, nice try, but I play things over and over again a bunch of times, especially when it comes to end theme. For example, I've heard the ending credit version of Suteki da Ne HUNDREDS of times and turned the volume up max because it was such a good song.

For me, when Final Fantasy's end themes roll, I want to turn it up to as far as I can go on the volume because the quality of the songs are just memorable and emotional, they're a reward for the player's hard work. However, replacing the already memorable and emotional Kimi ga Iru Kara with R'n'B is, like I've said before, an INSULT. The song isn't rewarding in the slightest, and listening to it makes my soul feel unclean.

I shouldn't have to bloody mute the TV because of an awful song, but in this case, I'd more than likely just stick to the import and actually learn Japanese than play through the English version all the way through and listen to utter shit play through the end credits as a "Reward" for my hard work in the game.

I understand that SE wants to appeal more to Westerners, but they didn't exactly need to appeal to more Westerners when it comes to Final Fantasy, Westerners LOVE Final Fantasy for it's emotional story and epic scores.

I have always said music has a higher importance in music than any 1 boss fight! Even one song is more important than 1 fight (Specially in FF since 1 song is often use many times XD) I don't think this song is gawd awful mind you, I just don't care for it much compared to the theme I already have heard.

Wow gerry, you're really offended by this...so I suggest you start learning Japanese ASAP coz it's out next month over there...

As I've said earlier, I hate unnecessary changes to something that I would've already considered a freaking masterpiece. When it comes to localization of games/anime/manga, I like it when companies keep as much of the product's origins intact.

However, I've honestly got the feeling here that SE's just given up on trying to sell the game to people on it's own merits, so they've instead had to rely on someone else's merit.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't entirely dislike R'n'B music, only 99% of it, and Leona Lewis' music falls into that category. The only music that I will love unconditionally is classical (Or Orchestral, depending on how you look at it), rock and metal.

Edit: From how I'm sounding actually, I'm beginning to wonder if I should be a critic of sorts. >_>

I wouldn't recommend it at current...you have a very biased view on a lot of things and it wouldn't be a very fair critique of said game/thing that you are critiquing(sp?).

Bias claims to you aside, Gerry, I do agree with the whole "keep the original blah de la" intact deal. However changing a song, while a surprise to some, is hardly one thing to even bother me at all. If they did something like this: The entire game and it's story is about chocolate covered unicorns gliding down rainbows, attacking the game's heroes who happen to be very cute teddy bears, when one of the heroes summons a storm of sugar, which happens to somehow defeat unicorns for only the NA/EU release, then yeah, that'd be a bit much.

Though, that would be kind of fun.

Sazh does utter the phrase "Sugar and Rainbows", you never know.

Dunno about you, but I think the Leona Lewis deal is an obvious PR move. It will benefit both parts. Leona Lewis might get more fans from people that haven't herd her music by having it put in the game, and FFXIII might get more buyers from the advertisement on Leona Lewis album, which will very likely be in it.

Who cares, theyll probably just play it during the credits anyway. i rly don't play these games for the music anyway. to me, the only really important music in a ff game is the battle music

I'd like to start a collective "no shit" right about now.
