Final Fantasy 13 Hype Thread?

Started playing last night after work got to chapter 3, Is it bad that i wish lightning would just kick Hope in the face so he can no longer talk I cant think of the last time i was this annoyed by a game charactor >_>

On chapter 4 now and god damn I love the paradigm system.

I don't find Vanille annoying at all as the reviews say she is and Sazh is really well done. He's the most believable main character there is.

Anyone else get the limited edition hard cover guide?

Just hit Chapter 4 myself, loving the battle system and paradigms.

I dont find her annoying either, its not like lymill in star ocean so im good. Shes got kind of a hot accent in some of the words she says tho!

For sure this is the most entertaining battle system in an rpg ever to me. Not the greatest for me as it is missing some of my favorite elements like limit breaks and total control of each character, add to that free will use of summons.. They limit the use very hard in this game.

As far as the game goes so far this is for sure the most linear FF game i have ever played and that hurts it alot for me.There doesnt even seem to be the illusion of open areas through the 60% of the game i have completed so far. The dialog between characters is terrible for me so far.. Like half the time the pauses and rests are all screwed up. Its picky i know but i expect more from a FF game in that area.

I hate Vanille with a passion as alot of the reviewers feel also lol. She always feels the need to make some uncalled for moan or some winey voice added to an odd accent. I hate her.

Now this is where i will give the game credit other then the incredible battle system.. I also hated hope for the majority of my play time... Up til the point where he spends alone time with Lightning and they build his character alot. I think the game is doing a great job of building characters after experienceing that part. I also would like to add another i hate Vanille comments.

Yo!

Got past Odin this morning. To say the fight is easy is like saying Lindsay Lohan is a good girl. Had to stop a little bit after the Lightning/Hope team switch, but will continue.

I do like the Paradigm system. It's really nice to switch on the fly and go with it.

I got the guide as well, but I've only really thumbed through the introductory chapter. It's pretty well-written, and I hope SE sticks with this publisher for future guides. I'm thinking Brady Games' royal fuckup of the FFXII guide helped make the decision to switch easier.
Got home from classes, gonna relax a bit then get back into the game.

Yeah, Piggyback has been a great EU guide maker, their FFXII and DQ8 guides were infinitely better than BradyGames in NA.
Glad that they did the FFXIII guide and hopefully do more in the future too for SE and other rpg's.

Anyways, I just beat Odin as well, difficult but fun battle, and had my POV switch over to Sazh and Vanille before I called it a night, gf is home from work.
Loving it so far, battles are fast paced and hectic, kind of glad you don't have the option to control everyone, paradigm shift suits the game very well, and the AI is a lot better than say Persona 3. I'd throw my controller against the wall repeatedly if I had to control the whole party.

I usually dislike games that don't let me control the party (see: White Knight Chronicles) but this game is just to fast to control the party.

Even if they did what they did with FFXII it's still too fast. Plus, you don't need to control everyone. The AI is VERY smart and when you switch someone to medic, they almost cure instantly.

All the positive feedback here seems good. I can at least be happy knowing that I'll eventually get this game and play through it and enjoy it.

I'll add to that as well Ecks, one of my favorite FF games to date. Good storyline, great character development, fast based combat, love the job and leveling systems as well.

Honestly, I don't care that its one of the lower rated numbered FF games, for me its going to end up being one of my favorite I think. I'm only 10 hours in right now and I'm loving every bit of it. Except for Hope. I hope Hope (haha) gets Aeris'd.

First of all, the few point reductions is nothing when it comes to reviews compared with other Final Fantasies. Anything over a 8 is a great game and with an 8.6 at gametrailers and a 8.5 at gamespot is still great.

No one can deny the beauty of the game or the detail. The speed and game play maneuvering/battling is at it's best ever and the character development is phenomenal.

At Chapter 6 and I gotta say, I don't really like controlling Sazh and Vanille together. I feel like I'm running around with two supportive characters rather then any real damage dealers. Thankfully I have more invested in Ravager and Commando for Sazh and with Vanille she'll just be my ravanger even though she excels as a Saboteur.

Anyone got a clue what the level up crystals do? I read that there's some hidden bonuses but can't figure them out.

Do you mean role level up? You know the bonuses each role provides? The higher level your role is, the higher the bonus is.

To check what bonus each role gives check the manual or the datalog.

Still accurate.

Sazh's character is pretty well developed as far as personality and conveying emotion but man oh man is he retarded in combat. His stance makes it look like he has to pee and the weapons he uses (so far) look like those plastic pistols you use at the arcade after you stick your quarter into the machine.

I'm thinking Lightning - Snow - Vanille for my main party down the road but we shall see. I only just beat Odin so far.

Look at it this way. Final Fantasy IX was the lowest rated Final Fantasy out of VI-XII. You know what? That in my opinion is the best one. It's average rating is around XIII's at the moment. Though I believe since then, fans have really grown to love the IX even more though.

For me, FFVI, FFIX and FFXI are the best in the series so far.

As for me, FFXIII has been rather unimpressive due to the linear path, I much preferred the "illusion of choice" from prior games in the series. Then again I'm only 4 hours in at The Vile Peaks, so this opinion might change. Perhaps I'm just being too nostalgic for the older style.

Once you can paradigm shift, the game gets a million times better. I love the battle system.
