Final Fantasy IV DS Official Thread:

You shouldn't tele out of a place. All those battles fought when you leave could ensure a easy boss battle. I only tele out when I need to regain Hp/mp and theres no circle thingy around.

I'm sitting here autobattling through the King & Queen Eblan fight because I keep dying at Rubicante.
Dying wouldn't be so bad if it didn't mean I had to go through 10 minutes of bullshit storyline fighting beforehand.

Dying to Rubicante? I take it you aren't following my guide's strategy for the fight then? It's pretty much die-proof.

Copypasta if you're lazy and don't wanna look it up:

The main attack pattern here is for him to open his mantle, use Inferno on you,
close his mantle, and attack you physically and then repeat. Inferno is a very
potent Fire attack that does massive damage to your group and heals him. If you
could prevent him from using Inferno, that would definitely make the fight
easier, right? Luckily for you, you can. For whatever reason, if you attempt to
Steal from Rubicante when his mantle is open, he closes it. We can use that to
our advantage to keep him from doing his strong attacks, however since we're
keeping his mantle closed we cannot hurt him with fire, ice, or water (which is
why we took off Cecil and Kain's ice weapons). Here's the plan.

Cecil should attack normally. Kain should Cry and then Jump. Rubicante counters
physical damage with Fira but he targets everyone and it's somewhat weak. Edge
should always be left on standby so he's ready to Steal at any given moment.
Rydia should attack with Bio then repeatedly cast Quake when the cloak is
closed. Rosa should start off Dualcasting Slow on Rubicante and Shell on the
group. Then she should get up Protect and Blink on Cecil then heal. When
everyone's health is up, have her use Pray to keep her and Rydia's mp up. She
can Haste Kain and Rydia as well to help speed up the damage. That's the basic
strategy of the fight, keep Rubicante from using Inferno and it's very simple.

Nice work on the solo Cecil playthrough thus far Rappa, been keeping up with it at GFaqs.

I ended up beating him. What was happening was he'd usually get off an Inferno before I could get to Edge to Steal. So I just turned down the battle speed for the fight.
Gratsi mille for the tips, Rappa.
Also, I've been following your general Augments guideline, I like to not miss any of these.

These fucking tails don't even want to drop with Treasure Hunter augment, I mean yeah I know it's only .8%, but 500 yellow dragons later and still not one tail, I'll get it eventually though. Then move onto the others, dreading the pink ones since I'ma be farming 5 of those.

Did anyone else just get slaughtered to the second Archfiend (water elemental one) in Baron? He used Tunsami and poof, I was dead in one shot. I could have been a little more prepared for the battle, but I was suprised he one shoted my party.

I'm currently in the Underground. I'm going to slap around Leviathan and Asura before I head to the Sealed Cave.

You can steal from Rubicante to make his mantle close? Fun. I always just sorta survived Inferno and then picked up the ashes.

The 2nd time you fight Rubicante (when you fight all four of them) don't try to nuke him when his mantle is open. He'll counter with a Firaga on everyone, and if he follows up with Inferno you're pretty much guaranteed a wipe.

I just saw an import of FFIV DS in a games shop today, I felt bad that I couldn't get it D=

It costed £35 and I had £0 on me =(

Oh well maybe next time.

The word "Lunar Whale" always cracks me up.
So yeah, FuSoYa is awesome.

Oh, Bahamut was quite the chucklefuck. Casting Reflect on himself then using Mega Flare on himself. That caught me by surprise. Took him down on a second try, though.

And now I'm sitting here wishing they'd done voice acting on the scene where everyone's converging at the Giant of Babil.

1 green, 2 blue so far, this frickin yellow doesn't want to drop, and I haven't even tried the 1 black, 2 red, or 5 pinks yet >>

All except pink for onion equipment, pink for adamant armors, pink was in previous versions but the onion equipment and other colored tails new to FFIV DS. Onion equips/adamant armors carry over to new game plus.

What does the Onion set do, anyway?

Mainly crap, except sword and shield(arguable), but I just want 1 of each.

Stats level up as character level increases, stats are as follows:

Onion Sword - ATK: LVL*2, ACC: LVL+50, Strength: LVL/3 best weapon for Cecil higher up, arguably for Kain as well

Onion Shield - DEF: LVL/10, Stamina: LVL/3, Prevents: Everything but Berserk

Onion Helm - DEF: LVL/10, Magic DEF: LVL/10, Speed: LVL/3

Onion Armor - DEF: LVL, Magic DEF: LVL, Intellect: LVL/3

Onion Gloves - EVA: LVL/5, Magic EVA: LVL/5, Spirit: LVL/3

So yeah, sword and shield are best two imo, though others can be useful, since max stats are affected by equipment, but not really worth it to lose DEF or EVA or w/e compared to some of the other stuff you can get, ie adamant armors > onion armors, crystal rings/protect rings > onion gloves, ribbons > onion helms, though I'm waiting til my 3rd playthrough to get those, since only onion and adamant carry over.
