Final Fantasy XIII Versus

I'm still confused... what's the difference? This one has the menu art design, like other FF's... but it's not FFXIII? Huh? But the dude looks fucking intense, defintely has me much more interested, and the first trailer was badass in itself.

FINALY!!! Been waiting for a non...fruity... main charachter for awhile now.

there's nothing really saying he's the main character, you know :P

The pink haired girl isn't the main character in FFXIII. Square came out and said it in an interview (might have been IGN or Gamespot...don't remember). I have reason to believe this guy is a villain.

SE is doing 3 different installments of FFXIII, and has a project name for it... (Memoria De la Stona'?) I'm not sure exactly but it's a project of SE's. The intent is to tell one large story through 3 different viewpoints or something of that nature if I remember correctly.

It's Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII, and so far encompasses 3 FFXIII games, the FFXIII(ps3), FFXIII: Versus(ps3), and FFXIII: Agito(cell phone game we'll never see in NA), and there's rumours of more FFXIII games coming for different consoles, but nothing has been announced yet.

Made in the same vein as the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, Fabula Nova Crystallis, which means "the New Tale of the Crystal", is nevertheless based on various worlds and different characters, but each game will be "ultimately based on and expand upon a common mythos."

Each of the games is independent of the others and only share a common mythological backdrop or 'mythos'. They are being developed by different teams of developers within Square Enix. However, the character designs for the three officially revealed games are by Tetsuya Nomura, who is also the director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Each of the games will have its own style of gameplay: Final Fantasy XIII is a turn-based RPG, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is more action-oriented a la Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII is an online game. A possible fourth title, Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII may be in the works as well, as Square Enix made a trademark filing for the title on May 1, 2006.

Eh, now I'm not as excited. It was cool that they're doing different storyline form different views(what I had hoped), but what happened to just making a straight up RPG?

I was told it would take place in the same world but the stories would be different.

FFXIII will be the straight up RPG(not much has been shown of this), and the other titles will be spinoffs, the trailer featured here is for Versus, which is more action based than FFXIII will be.

According to developers of the game, the game is not a sequel nor a prequel to other Final Fantasy XIII entries, but a wholly independent story unfolding with different characters and different visual designs. According to Square-Enix, they all take place in the same universe, but aren't related to each other directly.

Could be said about the whole FFXIII umbrella.

For FFXIII Versus, think more KH style gameplay I think is what SE claimed.

They should just call it FFXIII: The Quest for More Money.

Honestly, while I'll probably try the main game once it comes out, this whole "release 3 separate games for full story" sounds like a rip-off. Hopefully they'll be independent enough so we can only get one and know the full story with just some minor details missing, but I doubt it.

Sorry, just got really burned by the .hack series, ever since then I hated the whole multiple title deal, hope SE doesn't pull the same crap.

no, see, they are all different games XD they are full games each individually. The difference being (at least between FFXIII and FFXIII versus) that they are only in the same world, different dimension, me thinks. Kinda like FFXII and FFT, they aren't officially in the same universe/dimension/whatever but the same world (look and country-wise and such). At least that's what I gathered. So it seems like SE was like "Hey, we have like.. 2-3 ideas for how this story could go.. hmm which to pick..." and then another dood was like "why pick? why not make all seperate games?" and the first dood was like "genius! we could make more money that way"

that's how I think it went XD

I thought Final Fantasy XIII: Versus was supposed to be about the main villain in the game?

According to SE they're making several games, one about the main villain (Versus), and one about the good guys (Crystalis novalis or w/e). Hence the "Changing direction".

And I have to say, if they do a good back story as to why the villain is acting as he is, this could possibly be the best FFXIII ever >.>

Either way, that trailer pwned :p

Anyone worried about all these damn Final Fantasy spin-offs? Maybe they should rename the series starting now to, "Final, But Not Really, Fantasy"

the best FF ever or best FFXIII? XD and ya, that would be cool :P but I think they said something about dimension, not different perspectives.

I'm pretty sure they said that the stories were not connected. A villain background story would be connected to the main game.

but it could be a potentially cool game if that were the case :P

Its a potentially very good game either way.

They should've started calling the series something different after it's creator left Square-Enix and started up Mistwalker, back in 2004, and Uematsu breaking away from doing Square titles only.

It'd be like if John Carmack and John Romero left id Software and they still made Doom franchise games.
