When we first saw trailers and screenshots of FFXI, it looked completely different. The armor looked more like something taken from FFXIII etc. So yes, a lot change during development.

Wouldn't it be awesome if you could play a wider variety of races this time around? I'd love to be playing as a moogle... Imagine being a Moogle Dark Knight, slicing things up with a scythe...

I'm hoping they have some big surprises in store, right now it looks like FFXI-2 (A bit odd considering each numbered FF is supposed to be a different universe). I'll be there on day 1 though, I love the feeling of just starting out with everyone on a brand new MMO. If it feels like I'm just playing FFXI all over again I might not stick around though, unless they open an interdimensional portal that sucks my THF over.

I wanted to see a more modern world along the lines of FF7 and 8 over the the medieval thing everyone keeps doing for MMOs. But if the gameplay is great I won't care about the setting.

As much as I would love to come back, I would not only have to start from scratch, but start from scrath on a HDTV(ewww). I'm just gonna wait for FFXIV to come out, then we can all start off fresh and have HD graphics :D.

Man I miss Fury and just the people in quetz in general. So many good memories :). 2010, hurry the **** up

Edit: Also, as for the deal with Eorzea, didn't Vana'Diel's different countries have different beliefs? Not every person in Vana'diel would believe in Altana and Promathia. The Middle lands mainly believed in The Dawn Goddess and The Twilight God. Aht Urhgan's beliefs were from Sage Walahra, so, it should probably be assumed that this is another part of Vana'Diel were looking at.

With the whole time travel thing in WOTG currently, I would not rule it out as a possibility, maybe the end of this expansion will shed some more light on what to expect with XIV, SE loves their foreshadowing.

I didn't read this whole thread, because I'm lazy, but I just read on Joystiq that,

"The MMO from Square Enix is very much real and will be going to both PS3 and PC (a press release confirmed the PC version later today)."

So yeah, looks like you won't need a ps3 to play it if you don't already have one.

When they announced XIV, a ridiculous grin spread across my face. XI was my first MMO, and really the only one I've played that kept me coming back for more than a few months. I'm excited to see where this goes.

They'll probably start saying "Sorry, PS3 limitations.."

PS2 was only 2 years old when it came out in Japan, and 4 years old when in came out in NA. If FFXIV actually is released in 2010, the PS3 will be 4 years old.
 
At least this time we wont need to shell out 100 dollars for a hard drive for the ps3 :D

I wonder if they'll have more prerendered CSes, instead of just the opening one. Have them all preloaded into the game in dat or whatever form just like a normal game.

Mind you it will only take like 2 months and we'll have made a program that allows us to view them all and we'll most likely know the plot of the new expansion before they've even got anything past mission 1-1 installed.

I think that's the biggest thing I missed in ff11, the epic CSes of pure awesome are, like, SE's calling card. Hey look nice plo- HOLY CRAP IS THIS EVEN CG?!

If they have coded Crystal Tools to have extremely good online functionalities while maintaining high quality graphics at either 720p or 1080i, while at 30/60 fps, for example, FFXIII/FFvsXIII style graphics but in an MMO, then we should expect some great things from XIV. Not only that but they can now make any expansions available as DLC on the Playstation Store while keeping it on disc or direct dl from Playonline. The possibilities for XIV are now far greater than XI's. Though I'm gonna play both still =D

This is exactly what I was thinking. I wouldn't doubt that they'd somehow connect both games with the ending of the WotG expansion.

im wondering if they will keep the mixed servers of FFXI (JP NA EU) or if they will have dedicated JP NA EU servers
 
I'm hoping they have a f***n gps style map on a new and improved interface this time around. If they have that, I'm sold, but then again I'm easy ;)
 
LOS ANGELES--Earlier today at Sony's E3 media briefing, the console giant dropped the bomb that Final Fantasy XIV would arrive next year as a "PlayStation 3 console exclusive." Square Enix followed up on that today by confirming that the massively multiplayer online role-playing game would also be appearing on the PC.

Both versions of the game are set for a simultaneous worldwide release sometime in 2010. Additionally, the game will support four different languages at launch: Japanese, English, German,...

Sony official: OMG the trailer for the new FFXIV is supposed to go up tomorrow and we still don't have a name!!!! Let's see..... Swanson, Samson, Samsonite!!!! No Eorzea.... yeah that's it. That's call it Eorzea!!!!
