Final Fantasy XIV

Give us some more news D:

Going to a non-MMO (gamefaqs -_-) forum is like FFXI all over again, people bitching and moaning over there being a monthly fee.

Yea, that is getting really annoying...

"It shouldn't be a numbered FF game if its an MMO"
"SE isn't thinking of the players by making this an MMO"
"I like cheese!"
"I'm not going to bother if there is a montly fee."

You need to understand the amount of FF fans in the world that will never ever touch an MMO far out weigh the fans who want to pay money monthly. Add to that SE didnt even care for its own subscribers for the first 3 years.. Maybe longer.

The only way i play this MMO is if they adjust it and let me play casually. The FFXI fanbase is now 6 years older and are stepping into the real world.. I know there are still some very young people playing but.. To be able to leave work, play for 2 hours and actually accomplish something, do what i need to do IRL and sleep for work tomorrow would be great.

i dont understand why people dont want to pay monthly for a MMO. I mean do they really think they're gonna constantly update the game with new content, etc for free lol?

I don't think most of those people who complain about that have played an mmo for very long if at all. They don't understand how it's a lot more than your average game. It's kind of alive and constantly evolving. They think you are paying monthly for the exact same content over and over when that obviously isn't the case.

I think the problem is that almost every MMO in history could have easily gotten away with a CHEAPER monthly fee and still made profit.. hell.. WoW could do that with ease with the amount of players they have -_- it pisses me off the same way ISP providers charge for shit a lot more than they need to... bah...

On this same note Ele, which i agree with... Think about the people who only played FFXI for the first couple years of service. Their opinion of an MMO, for sure a SE MMO, is probably shitty. You pay a monthly fee for a world that is well maintained and an equal playing field. That was not the case for YEARS with FFXI.

Think about it this way, it's like $200 for a year of online gaming. Consider exactly how much time you spent playing it Vs other forms of entertainment. I know many people who spent $100 in 1 weekend at the bars and a few who spent $200. MMOs are like the cheapest form of entertainment there is.

I dont see it this way at all. I can say something silly like i know people who spend $5 on a book and use it as much as you do FFXI... FFXI is like the most expensive form of entertainment.

Now i dont really feel that way but thats how silly your post seemed to me.

That is true, it's based on how much one uses it :P I don't really wanna get all absorbed in an MMO, that's why I like WOW, I don't play it much really, sometimes I take a break and still come back and have fun and not lost in things :P but ya, at the same time, I can reread my books that I spent 5 dollars on and still enjoy <3

And ya, I know that those who played it and got pissed off at the poor service of FFXI (or any MMO that had poor crap, Age of Conan, etc) are going to have a negative view on MMOs but those who never have tried and refuse cause the monthly fee do have a point... every game could be a lot cheaper than they charge

Like Elemmire said it's based on how often people use it. If you're planning on playing it once a week then it's obviously much more expensive.

Actually if you're playing it so seldomly that it is expensive, you probably shouldn't be playing it.

Point is, if it is too expensive to play, stop playing. Don't whine about it.

I dont even have the issue with a monthly fee so telling me not to whine is not needed. I do understand people that do not want to pay for the sub par service SE gives on a MMO, that is all.

Hey i got another one for you... If you have such a problem with people complaining about the monthly fee why dont you stop reading their posts?

I am just trying to show you what the other side of your feelings are man. People can swing something like this to fit there needs always.

Ele i also played WoW for the same reason. I have tons of problem with that game as well and am no serious fan.. But.. I can play the game for 15 minutes or 4 hours and no matter what i will get something accomplished. If i logged onto FFXI right now i would need 2 hours just to set up whatever i wanted to accomplish in the next 6 hours or so lol..

I would love to play FFXIV in short frames with friends;;

Let's not forget the terrible CSR/GMs of FFXI, and it's cancerous RMT problems. It has to be the top MMO when it comes to RMT Account to Legit Player ratio, so prepare to expect the same thing in the sequel everyones going to jump to. And the Japanese player base will cling to something else to enact an unwarranted sense of superiority, and the weeaboos will praise them for it.

E: But I guess some people here'll like seeing their old botting and gil farming buddies.

Here is your answer.

Like Osyris, I completely agree with you, Elemmire.

Because most of the people who are complaining are thirteen years old, and cannot afford to pay monthly.

People are going to charge the most they can if people will pay it. 11 million people are paying WoW's fee and if someone feels that their MMO offers just as much as WoW then they are going to charge just as much.

Too bad feeling and actually doing are two wildly different concepts. It'd be awesome to have quality budget retail MMOs as a result of WoWs massive content.

But then again, WoW itself would be budget thanks to EverQuests massive content.

the sub par service SE gives on a MMO

On the contrary, while SE's customer service isn't so hot, FFXI probably has one of the highest if not THE highest server uptime ratios in the industry.

Also you gotta keep in mind not much of the monthlies even become profit. I recall one former SE employee said Square Enix only ends up seeing a few cents (like 20-40c) of each player's monthlies as profit, the rest is goes back into the servers as well as into salaries.

You also have to remember that with the constant influx of new content, there's a continuous need for playtesters and designers, and the art department is usually one of the more expensive parts of a design team.

I don't think you can compare a money value of a MMO to other forms of entertainment like bars or baseball tickets or cable TV. But you can compare it to other videogames maybe. Like I'm spending more money now than when I played FFXI on videogames. That's a fact. I played FFXI on a standard def TV, on a fat PS2 with a $10 keyboard and barely bought any PS2 games.(Most of my PS2 I bought afterwards, used, and haven't had time to play them... shit I want to own to be able to play like Persona 3, ext.)

Since then I bought a PS3, a 360, a Wii, a high def TV, an expensive 7.1 receiver and speakers, over 100 blu-rays, about 50 PS3/360/Wii games, a projector, a PSP, about 10 PSP games, some old PS1 games, some PS2 games to collect... some old xbox and gamecube games, tons of extra controllers, a $50 xbox gold card, like 20+ PSN/XBLA games...

And honestly... gamewise... time goes by faster when you are playing an MMO. I wasn't sitting around waiting for FF12 like I am for FF13. In fact I didn't get FF12 until a few weeks after its launch cause it wasn't so big a deal. For someone who doesn't play an MMO, I'll be there first day to get FF13. There are a lot of (great) games I wouldn't give the time of day. I wouldn't touch games like God of War, Ninja Gaiden, Heavenly Sword... I wouldn't have bought Saints Row 2, Burnout Paradise... I'd have skipped even shooters like Halo 3, Killzone 2, Rainbow 6, COD4... and pretty much the only thing I'd play are big RPGs.. I mean Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts not even Dragon Quest or Star ocean.... Smash Bros and the Socom/Timesplitters for shooters.

Of course it also means a giant time sink of time in my life I wouldn't normally be playing games during. Like you don't stay up later than you want to leveling up in a single player RPG. So I'm glad about this increased emphasis on casual play. I just hope it doesn't add complications if you want to play when specific friends. Like if you sync out with them level-wise.... once you start to static with them then you feel obligated to be there when it may be to your personal detriment.

I gotta say, FFXI has saved me a fair amount of cash. By staying home and playing FFXI, I save on gas money, I dont go out as much to bars and clubs (which means I would spend drinking money and gas money), and I'm home more often to be there for my family in case they need anything. I also tend to buy less video games because, lets face it, I won't play them as much as I usually do because I'm usually on FFXI anyways. It takes a TRULY great game to pull me off of FFXI for a decent amount of time, so I only buy games that REALLY grab my attention =P
