Final Fantasy XIV

Wait, does that mean that there's no auto attack and you have to manually tell the game to attack every time your ATB bar is full? That'd be horrible for an MMO.

Before I really sit here and make a judgment about it, I wanna see how exactly its done in game. I wonder exactly how it will all work out. I'm almost thinking they may give you an auto-attack button on the hot menu. You click that and melee until the bar is suitable or your ready for a change-up in tactics with a WS or what have you. But who knows, interviews honestly can be misleading or things can change fast from an alpha test to final.

I do though want it to be more interactive without question though.

Yeah, supposedly you need to press "Attack" every time you want to attack, hence why the battle seem to be really slow in the gameplay videos.

The attack has no ATB bar though, there's seperate actions for left and right hand, and each hand has its own cooldown. So you can choose do:

Right hand: attack
left hand: shield > cooldown appear
right hand: red lotus > cooldown appear
right hand: attack
right hand: attack
left hand: some special > cooldown appear
right hand: attack
right hand: some special

At least that's the way I understood Tanaka's explaining of it. Dunno how it'll be done with a 2-handed weapon and if dual-wielding is possible. It seems interesting though that you need to control both hands at once, assuming left hand can do more than just defend with a shield. But then again, it would take some skill to both attack with right hand and block hits with left one, which I'm guessing is possible as Tanaka doesn't seem to be getting hit at all in his video interview.

Tanaka must be fighting too weak to be worthwhile dodos, because he was one-shotting everything with that fire sword ability. I know we can't kill them like that from the start and he even said mobs build resistance to the same attack.

I'm assuming he ment monster, not monster type. That is, every Dodo in the game won't get resistant to an ability you use because you use it on one of them.

I'm assuming it means when you're, say, killing a HNM or a boss, or other fights that last a bit longer.

I'm glad that there's no voice chat intergrated into the game, I'd find having a lot of people in a guild talking and just..hard to concentrate I guess. I dunno.

Other than that this game looks so cool! :) Boo at the whole no pet jobs at the begining yet. I'll be depressed if this game doesnt have any summons to play with. But I'm excited for this! (also that ps3s are going to be cheaper lol)

It's a final fantasy game, they'll throw summons in there at some point, or something similar to summons.

I'd be willing to bet they won't be in the form of pets like in XI.

They claimed there will be avatars, but not summonable ones. According to them, they will play too an important of a role in the game to be summonable.

Then again, look at Fafnir and Diablo.

All in all, I'm really pleased with this info so far because I do believe they are trying to innovate rather then recreate. I think they could have gotten away with calling it another name, but we're past that now.

What does Fafnir have to do with summons? Just confused.

I remember reading somewhere that every time an avatar is summoned, a bit of energy from the protocrystal is drained, and when all the energy is drained, hell on earth will happen (or something like that).
That's how I want FFXI to end.

I hope they give us long term FFXI players something cool when it is released.
