Final Fantasy XIV

I think all they're going to give us is our name if we want it. I think they should allow long standing players of XI first spots into the beta though.

I hope I'll be able to make my hair green either by Dat modding or at the char creation screen. D:

I hope they give us long term FFXI players something cool when it is released.

It was said in an interview with Tanaka that they will do their best to accomodate players, but that they are also going to allow the use of surnames (last names?) to add on to our names to differentiate in case of two people having the same name.

I doubt they'll be giving any preferential treatment to any FFXI players.

Didnt they say you can modify your skin tone, along with eye and hair color?

I hope they don't give us anything except maybe name preference and naming disputes possibly settled by time spent as a customer.

Oh boy, I can't wait to see which bright person chooses "Cloud Sephiroth".

I have to think of a surname to Elemmire? :( bahz

I think the surname applies if and when there is a name dispute, but not entirely sure, gotta find that interview again *digs around the other forums*

Who cares about name reserving?

I'd be much happier if long-term FFXI players got an automatic invite to the beta, with all FFXI players getting like an in-game trophy to put in their MH or whatever. Maybe a little equippable token with a slight stat boost for use at lower levels.

Honestly, if you didn't play FF11 would you play a game that gave some real advantage to former FF11 players? I wouldn't. It's pretty silly. We're already going to have an advantage having played the most similar game, our instincts are going to be better than people coming from other games.

SE has already said that XI player won't be getting some significant advantage, but they were looking at giving XI players a little something for making the move.
I've always thought a body armor piece with your nation flag from XI would be nice.

But people accept that with "Collector's Editions" all the time, so it's not unreasonable for them to offer some minor advantage to an established player base.

An open beta invitation and a small armor piece with +1 to all stats at lower levels aren't really an advantage over other people.

WoW gives players who played earlier advantages (in vanity ways) than those who are newer :P so what's the big deal if FFXI players got a vanity item for the game? You know, like.. a pet moogle! :P or what was posted above with a trophy or a beta invite.

New info here:
http://www.ffxivcore.com/index.php?/topic/909-dengeki-interview-with-tanaka-and-sundi/

Some key points:
  • Variation among armor progress more drastically than FFXI!
  • Different armor will have different skill requirements. Each weapon has corresponding gear paths. There is general purpose gear and skill purposed gear, example is fencers for increased speed of sword skill leveling.
  • Aside from just items and money, NM(Notorious monsters) may present rare item drops in Guild leves.
  • HNM guild leaves are being developed for large groups and are being considered to be implemented in the game at launch. (HNMs confirmed?!?!)
  • SE would love to start the beta immediately, but more development work needs to be done. Tanaka wants some playable form of the game available to everyone like the 30 minute guild leve example at Gamescom.
  • Tanaka wants a very large group of people to be able to test the game and provide feedback as early in the development as possible.
