Final Fantasy XIV

Wow, HNM's confirmed so early in the developement of the game?! Wonder how theyre gonna work the NM system, if it will be similar to what we have now i.e. lottery and timed spawns? Hmmm interesting indeed.

Sweet! Beta soon! I'm on that.

I heard from some friends that the english beta will most likely be done in Europe, England mainly from the looks of it. I need to confirm it thought >.>

I don't see why they wouldn't want to test server stability in the US.
Since, you know, that's usually what betas do.
use of SE security tokens may become required.
:|... the game better come with one then.

They say they'll focus more on the battle system at the Tokyo Game Show, that's what I'm most excited for. Hopefully it'll be more party/alliance play there, as well as non-broken Lalafells actually able to cast spells.

Anyway, they say the game is 40-50% complete. I'm guessing, as they're aiming for a 2010 release and a beta in the not too distant future, that the battle system and most core functions are pretty much complete with only some minor adjustment and fixes, and that what they have left to do is adding the content and some finishing touches graphics.

I'll admit I'm slightly worried about how well they'll manage to make this level of "different" work.

The class/job/level system in almost every MMO is there because it works and it's comfortable for most players. While I'm excited to see SE trying something different, I have to wonder how well it's actually going to work.

Having the crafts be jobs unto themselves isn't a new concept, of course, but hopefully it works well enough to offset my distaste for having to fix my gear on a regular basis. Not a huge fan of weapon durability.

Everything else looks great so far, lol.

God damnit, I threw away my security token after I quit XI. It looks like you can use it again.

Security Token? :P

In Final Fantasy XIV, characters will no longer have experience points or levels. Instead, skill level will be used to determine how "strong" someone is in a particular class. For example, the higher you raise sword skill, the stronger your attack power with a sword becomes. Also, as you increase your skill you will acquire new skills and techniques. This was designed to avoid the problems faced by parties with a level gap in Final Fantasy XI. At first, they planned to go along with the usual level system, but decided to find a way around the difficulties it could pose, ending up with a skill-based system of progression.

OH GOD. As an old UO player this pleases me greatly, but I wonder how the job system will work with it. Will there still be subjobs? I still need to read this 400 page thread...

Dennis Hopper as the main villain. Yuri Lowenthal as everybody else.

Pfft, Stephen Jay Blum for everyone! :P even the women characters! hah

After reading Uzor's links, I can now picture a world where you can no longer know how pimp a player is after he pops out an "Omnislash" on a fight. Then we go "whoa!" and "how did you get that?".

It will be good and surprising. Compared to now, where you can see leetness coming a mile away by just looking at a player's weapon and armor.

I can imagine the shouts for people LFP...

"Sword Skill 220! I have Vorpal Blade!"

The Armory system will offer them a lot of room for "holy shit" gear though.

Is first person an option again? I can't stand mmorpgs without first person perspective. It doesn't feel like a real mmo without it. I can only think of those lame Korean mmos.

Naw, Michael Clark Dunkan for all voices.

He'd make an awesome Galka.
