Finally a happy church

Probably not a photographic memory, I know he did study for over 10 years though at some seminaries. He had to get a PhD twice, the first time he went to get his he spent 5 years at a baptist seminary in Nashville, but he ended up converting to Presbyterian in his last year and they took away his diploma.

He could have taken them to court and gotten it back, but he didn't want to deal with all of the legislation, so he went to st. louis and spent another 4 years at another one there, and finally got it.

we have a Christmas tradition around here, every year I buy him a new type of Bible and he reads it through before the next Christmas.

Like, 2 years ago, I got him a Chronological study one, Last year I got him an Archaeological study one. This year (well.. 07) I got him a Reformation study one.

Solomon slept around with tons of women yet he didn't get punished for actually sleeping with them. He got punished for just marrying them for a new sex object(by the hundreds) and consequently practicing idolatry, praying to other gods, ect during his enthusiasm to get them to say "I do-------> YES YES YES!".
There is nothing stating that it is wrong to have sex with your wife or to not enjoy it.There has never been. If the fact that priests and nuns take a vow of chastity has you confused that whole part has nothing to do with the bible. Them not having children was because a priest or nun having a child would result(technically) in the child being entitled to land ownership once the parent dies.(AKA "church property")
guess what? the church either LIED or a bunch of people got that idea in thier head at once and decided to run with it. People in charge of ANY position of power have been corrupt. Blaming an entire organization because a leader isn't living up to the purpose of it is stupid. and since you probably want to hear it here's some random corrupt things popes have done. one pope committed polygamy , another was a raging violent alcoholic,a few used to be serial killers essentially, and another gambled/sold away the popeship, another kept on selling off church property for cash until everyone else got tired of him and killed him. That's right? The church isnt infallible. Gee whiz and here we were going around thinking all preists cardinals ect were perfect saints.

Just because the pope says so doesn't mean that it's automatically right or everyone agrees with him.

That's like saying that because "George Bush hates black people" the constitution says "let those darkies drown".
Did you actually check the bible to see where it says sex is bad? Sodom and gimora? The people in the city were going to buttrape the angels. if that doesn't qualify for a smiting then what does? Theres a few parts where having sex actually "saves the world" or at least results in something good other than the orgasm if my memory of said events is correct.

Sorry to inform you of this but the vast majority of the Catholic doctrine, and the Protestant doctrine, is based up on the writings of St. Paul, not anything in the Old Testament. You know, the same St. Paul who said that abstinence was preferrable to marriage in terms of its piety. His entire argument can be summed up as:

You should control your sexual urges and abstain from sex because it is preferrential for you to join yourself with Christ.

If you can't control your sexual urges, you should at least get married, so that it's all legal-like.

Try reading Corinthians I starting at chapter 6.

The Western Christian tradition has been against human sexuality and even sex within marriage since its inception; stop deluding yourself.

Fornication(which youj must have been referring to in Corinthians) Is sex between two unmarried people and not two married people by definition.(yes i looked it up to double check) care to try again? I fail to see how it says anything about married couples having sex is bad.
EDIT: why exactly are you saying that the old testament is or should be ignored? I think the whole 10 commandments in the old testament part of Christianity is one of those things ya aren't supposed to forget.

I guess I shouldn't have said impossible but near impossible. With God all things are possible. That is awesome that he can do that. I'm guessing photographic memory? Sounds like an interesting guy to meet. :)

I have a pastor like that as well. Very knowledgeable. The detail he describes things in is impressive. He even knows how many words are in the bible. He's said it so many times but I can never remember the number lol. He taught a 22 week course on revelation (one week per chapter) and the detail he went into was amazing. He teaches things you don't hear in everyday sermons. I've all kinds of crazy things I never knew of and he backs it all up with scripture. Its amazing how people can get like that. I've always looked up to him.

Yeah I was always taught that both are equally important. God is the same then as he is now. I can't exactly explain it the way I heard it but I know that the old testiment shouldn't be ignorned.

I just finished reading "the year of reading biblically" I've gotta say. It's a funny book while being informative at the same time.
One of my favorite parts was where it turned out that if you follow a rule(biblical or otherwise) and let someone die(or something else bad) as a result you're considered a dumbass. Yes there's a specific part that essentially says if you go overboard with following the rules and forget that you're supposed to be NICE to people you're stupid.

I have to say that the whole red cow of the Antichrist thing was hilarious. I also think the Christians trying to bring forth the Antichrist are complete morons.

That is a level of devotion one rarely finds in Christians, or even in men in general. Your uncle sounds like a remarkable man.

If you can have sex without being lustful. I don't think it's possible.

Lust (or lechery) is usually thought of as involving obsessive or excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. Unfulfilled lusts sometimes lead to sexual or sociological compulsions and/or transgressions including (but obviously not limited to) sexual addiction, adultery, bestiality, and rape. Dante's criterion was "excessive love of others," which therefore rendered love and devotion to God as secondary. In Purgatorio, the penitent walks within flames to purge himself of lustful/sexual thoughts and feelings.

Ergo, sex is bad.

Dante also believed in hell when hell was infact a mistranslation of a garbage dump as well as the assimilation of the norse goddess Hel into the main culture.

This is completely true. There's a few parts you are told have been changes, such as there being no such thing as 'unclean' food now, no need for a blood sacrifice as Christ paid it all at the cross. You can also have readily access to God through prayer now, and not go to some priest in hopes they actually do what is asked of them..

God is the same then as he is now.

Are you sure about that? He was kind of a hardass in the Old Testament compared to the New.

I've been to...dozens of churchs in my life time, and not a single one has had the same beliefs. You think all Christians think alike or believe the same things? Stop deluding yourself. I think the only staple rules in Christianty are the 10 Commandments, everything else is optional.

Show me the verse/s that say maritial sex is a sin, cause I've never heard anything like that and I've been going to church since I was 2 days old, quite literally.
