No, it's not a good example at all, and I'll tell you why.
Put aside for the minute that the thread you're referring to was from someone that enough people on the boards don't care for. Put aside that it was bursting with cursing and ranting and raving. The intent behind it was to express frustration/disgust that he can't go anywhere on the forums without someone trolling him. Someone's gotta go into the real life thread and talk smack (even though his wife who posted that thread was pissy to begin with). Someone has to make fun of him or tell him off or call him stupid. And a loooong time ago it was said that it was unacceptible to flame outside the flameboard. Yet we still have this going on: http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showthread.php?t=45653
I'm not saying he doesn't bring heat upon himself. I'm not saying he hasn't irritated people or said foolish things. But I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be the first person on these boards to say something stupid. He created the flame in anger and while theoretically I agree that yes, people should be accountable for what they say, I also think he had a point, though apparently not capable of expressing it as diplomatically as others do. I spoke to him in PMs and to be really honest, I think he genuinely just wants to not be actively humiliated outside the flameboard just because certain people can't resist. And I don't think that's a horribly awful thing to want. It's been said a million times: don't want to hear what someone has to say, put them on your ignore list. And that's exactly the advice I gave him through PM.
All in all, that FB topic was met with the usual disgust and ridicule, with some homophobia, racism and the usual lame "I'm cool look at the pic I posted." garbage. Not saying we should all forgive and welcome BBT into open arms but, yeah that thread wasn't going anywhere good. It started out of line, it went where everyone knew it was going to go, and was, mercifully in my opinion, put down.
Bottom line, the thread didn't belong on the flameboard because it didn't have anything to do with in game occurences. And it couldn't be moved elsewhere because it was full of venom and spite. So I think the mods did the right thing in locking it.
