My husband has been upgrading his entertainment center for the last 7 years and like a week or so ago got the final addition to his entertainment center last week. A nice shiny 42" flat panel HDTV.

Well I've been playing this game since release on the PS2 and when the PS3 came out he replaced the old PS2 with a PS3. Wednesday was the first time that I had a moment to play FFXI on the new TV with the PS3...

...and now FFXI looks like major ass. T.T

I imagine it looks exactly like pig poop if it were under an electron microscope. I know one way to get rid of the poop and thats get a port for the game that supports HD (which would be the 360) or put it on a PC. But both would require us to spend lots of cash on a platform neither of us would like to play or put it on the PC that we're building out that I only intended to use for school which has the power to run like 12 instances of FFXI since I'm going to school now for game development. (Putting together a dual Xeon Quad-Core processor machine with an Nvidia 8800GTX card in for video... using 3DS Max and Maya on this machine will totally blow away rendering times for my work and putting together my portfolio)

Anyone else out there playing FFXI on a PS3 with an HD screen got any work arounds on this one or is there any rumor through the grapevine of SE porting over FFXI to PS3 with the Wings of the Goddess release on the horizon?

there is an HD connector for the PS2 (a 5 prong thingy for the back of your HDTV) just buy that and it should help

We're on a PS3 right now. PS2 is out the door. And he got the HDMI cable for the PS3 to the HDTV.

And I know that the PS2 had its limitations in regards to what it could do graphically at the time when FFXI was originally released. I'm not crying about the idea of porting over FFXI to the PS3 but a lot of companies out there have looked into the idea of porting over classic old games from older technology to newer technology. Since FFXI is ongoing it wouldn't be too difficult of an idea. I know I led this flame open to the fanboys of crapping on the platforms that they don't enjoy but I'm kind of hoping that I get some experience from other players out there who might have been in the same boat as me. I'd rather not play the game anymore on the account of how crappy it looks now.

lol

That aside, SE has nothing to do with the fact that a PS2 game shows little to no improvement running on a PS3.

Christ, flaming SE for things they have no control over seems to be all the rage these days. My neck's been aching for a bit, that's probably SE's fault too.

Best idea imo would be to get it on PC. It would be easiest, cheapest, and most beneficial. If you wanna play on the teletube, you can buy a cable to connect the pc to the screen, and there you have it.

The resolution and such can be easily altered on the PC version, so you can slightly tweak the graphics and overlays to make it look a bit better.

Is not! They give that warning not to forget your RL before signing in to play each time!

I didn't know you can convert your PS2 FFXI game over to the PS3 thats new to me

edit: my opinion go and retireve the PS2 and use it with a 5 prong connectro thingy and that may be better.

Yeah our screen has analog, and HDMI inputs. Though I believe when the parts for the new PC comes in I'll have to double check the outputs on the 8800GTX but I believe it only has 2 DVI-D and S-Video outputs.

I might have to look into getting a DVI-D to HDMI cable.

As for "converting" the data from PS2 to PS3, you can install the PS2 FFXI software to the PS3 and download a file from PSnetwork to get the old PS2 software to work on the PS3's. I'm just wishing that SE would port over FFXI to the PS3 so that the game could be as enjoyable in newer technology. It wouldn't take too much to actually port the game over to the newer technology platform as they did for the 360 when that platform was released.

Yeah as it is not compatible i would say just stick with PS2 for FFXI until SE decieds to convert that would probably be the best course. I was on HD with my PS2 and the graphics cam ein so loud i got eye cancer >.< (sorry if i offened anyone who acctually has eye cancer)

Honestly, they're right. It's the fact that the PS2's version of FFXI looks like major ass, and it doesn't seem SE upgraded it at all for the PS3. I play on a PC with a good video card and graphics cranked up to max, so I can safely say that it's not that FFXI -always- looks like ass, just that the PS2 version does. Alas, the Xbox version also doesn't look bad (my roommate plays on an Xbox with an HDTV), but you have a PS3 so you're probably stuck with that version.
