For the ladies... (and guys)

Correct, plus, I haven't been laid at all, nor do I have a girlfriend, never had one either.

Mainly because every girl I have ever known always went with a dick head and started acting like a slut around them... I was ALWAYS rejected on this day. meh, thats High school though, and I'm glad I got the hell out of there.

If I were ever to (finally) get a girlfriend, I certainly wouldn't have a British girlfriend. In my experience there are very few honestly nice British girls.

So, I'm pretty bitter on this day.

Gogo tomorrow, hurry the hell up!

I agree/disagree some of the nicest girls I have ever met are in my class. I only got one card but she's a really nice girl and I felt like a ass about not getting her one, but I was kinda bitter about it.

But your right some girls are relay bitches... I can name 10 of the top of my head right now. But that's the thing... most of them get no attention anymore because there all 'Crack heads' so yeah lol.

Depends on how you see it. I only think one of the stories about Valentine's Day is interresting. It comes from various sources. No one really knows which is the "real" one.

The most commonly accepted is St. Valentine. There's several, though. One of the most commonly accepted is the bishop who married people in secret. All inall, the name "Saint Valentine" is a collective name for various "saints", and is nowadays the "symbolic" person for Valentine's Day. They also dedicated the Crocus as St. Valentine's flower, as it blooms around February 14th.

Another history to this day is the Juno Februata in Ancient Rome. This festival took place on February 14th every year. At this time, single men would draw a ticket and be paired up with a woman, and perform various activities together, most of them sexual. They would remain partners for a year, at which time they can either draw a new name, or stay together with their current partner.

Personally, I think the second one is much more interresting.

I read on here maybe a year or two ago that originally that this was a holiday under a pagan religion until it became an issue for some reason with the pope in charge and he wiped out the civilization for heresy and adopted the holiday later on under Christianity.

I'm going to look that up though, that could be another holiday

nvm i was wrong it seems, anyone know what I could be thinking of?

Also,

Got a card from my girlfriend and some chocolates from others, as well as a cupcake from the front office where I work 5th period. Pretty neat.
Watching all this affection flying around the school still disgusts me, though.

Yes. The Pagan Roman holiday - the Lupercalia Festival - is another one. Took place on February 15th. The way it was celebrated, was 2 male priests taking all of their clothes off, and butchering wild animals and burn + pour their blood on their foreheads, to "cleanse" themselves and other women, which is the "bloody" one you're thinking of. However, I can't imagine that actually being the ancestor to Valentine's Day, and thus mentioned the more "romantic" version of Juno Februata.

And as you mentioned, that one was banned by the Christian priests for being too erotic. They toned it down a bit to make it less erotic, but it didn't get the same spread and attendance rate as the more erotic one. So eventually they just let them do as they pleased on this day.

Later on, the pope announced February 14th as the day you celebrate St. Valentino. As I mentioned earlier, this person isn't actually one person. Its a collection of several people. Christianity have a tendency to replace pagan gods and rituals/festivals with Christian saints and rituals, as can be seen with our most celebrated holiday, Christmas. This is also why I believe it was actually Juno Februata that was the ancestor to Valentine's Day, rather then the more brutal, bloody one, as Juno Februata was a festival celebrating the Goddess of Love.

The Love association with Valentine's Day didn't become as strong as it is now until France and England started giving hand-written notes and letters to their loved ones on February 14th, as it was believed birds chose their mate on this day. This was somewhere between 14th and 15th century.

happy vagina day
