I'm finding myself as I get farther and farther up that I dont use Chainspell much which is a good and bad thing. The parties I am in havent required me to use it which means they know their stuff but I can't remember really what I can do.

Pre 50 I used to use it to save my pt from numerous instances of mass chaos but I kinda realized at 64 that I havent even touched it in months until a pt last week when I used it after we had had a fourth add.

The pt was killing the mob and had adds link up as if they were in a single file line after each add was killed. In other words.

*pt defeats so and so*

*some add pops and hits so and so for XXX dd*

lather rinse and repeat...X 4

When I chainpelled I healed the tank and one dd a bit hasted all the melee converted with macros and enfeebled with macros(which are made for normal non chainspell use)

Chainspell is a bit above 45 seconds 60 If I'm right I know its above 45 seconds because I have had convert down for 45 seconds and have gotten some bang from 2hring.

Is there macros for debuffing, healing, nuking, etc. specifically for chainspell, methods, tips, etc. that would help?

I'm guessing /wait 1 on each spell with proper gear swaps but I think I better ask for some higher up advice.

Thanks ahead of time *rushes to catch Naruto download!*

While I'm just a lowly 19 Rdm myself, I could see <stpc> and <stnpc> getting some good use after a Chainspell. For instance:

Buffs:
/ma Haste <stpc>
/ma Refresh <stpc>
(Letting you decide when and on whom to cast from the same macro)

Debuffs:
/ma Blind <stnpc>
/ma Paralyze <stnpc>
/ma Slow <stnpc>
/ma Gravity <stnpc>
(Saving you tons of valuable macro space devoted just to Chainspell)

Anyway, hope this helps, and I can't wait to hear back from some more experienced Chain Spellers.

I just spam stun... or nuke <.<; rarely use it besides that since I never get a chance to use it for something else :p

Great use of chainspell:

Chainspell > buff buff debuff debuff > convert > drain spam

I just spam stun.

Same here. In 75 levels of RDM and many merit parties, the only time I've ever had to use Chainspell wasn't in any of that at all, but in Dynamis-Xarcabard when it came time to down Dynamis Lord. If your party needs you to Chainspell for some reason, I'd seriously start looking for a more competent group.

ya, or to solo the first extention in Xarcabard <.<; chainspell ftw

Just to repeat what others have said here in this thread, it's not really much of a valuable 2HR as such, however it's implemented several times during end game events, where chainspell stuns and nukes are a necessity to killing something that spams moves or needs to be killed quickly.

If you're out soloing it can be helpful, chain spell utsusemi: ni, then stoneskin, then cure bomb yourself and sleep everything in sight :D Very handy if you can keep your cool during such a situation.

I've seen way too many 75 rdms die because lack of use of chainspell.

They get aggro then panic. There is no need for panic when you get aggro in a bad place, throw on a fast chainspell cure4, sleep2, escape, warp, something to get you out of where you are and it keeps you from dieing.

Dieing is something that should rarely happen as a solo redmage.

I rarely use it last time I did was in last week pt which before then was like 6 months ago?

What about Chainspell Raise? Is that something to consider over chainspell nuke?

Can be very handy in a time limited situation, but it is rarely needed.

*Edit* Why are sigs in every post now.. makes the page horrendously long O.o

oh thanks for responses one last question

should i put a wait time between desired spells?

the spell casting time is only half a second with CS but should I just put /wait 1 or can I lump them all together and still work?

chainspell is one of the most powerful 2H ability of the game. A rdm with good nuke gear can do 3k + dmg in dynamis for example with chainspell blizzard3, which is more than any melee 2H, and maybe astrl flow.

Naw, shit happens that's what Chainspell is for.

I would might start looking for another group if the RDM *didn't* use it when it was required.

Heh, forget about Chainspell... I haven't used <Benediction> in a looooong time. And with good reason, with all this new items, abilities and spells some 2hrs seem worthless. lol

ex. <Curaga II> heals almost (dam u MNKs!) a full PT's HPs. Imagine a WHM's <Curaga IV>...

I know 2hrs are for use in emergencies, but you can just save MP and use that last <Cuaraga IV> in the nick of time. lol

This is like forgotten White Mage techniques...

Yea a D.S. + curaga4.... may as well call it benedicton.

I use chainspell when soloing or duoing to get us out of a bad situation (like chainspell > escape/warp/tele), during Besieged for raises, during Dynamis when nuking bosses, and that is about it (except for Maat fight, of course). Very rarely has a party situation that I've been in called for the use of chainspell.

Regarding the wait time on macros, I just use my normal macros. It doesn't make sense to me to create a separate macro set just for Chainspell use because I don't use it that often. In general, I think you should put a wait, though, so your machine doesn't get confused.

i must constantly run aroud with top notch players or just havent used it in so long i dont think about it but i cant remember the last time i used chainspell in a emergency. :bb:

i wont deny its power though. i just mainly use it for fun.

Don't forget about the status curing either. Makes it handy when dealing with, say, Diabolos Prime.

It's one of the most flexible 2-hour abilities, I'll give it that. But if a Monk or Warrior can't toss out 3k damage endgame over the span of their 2-hour, they're doing something wrong (or died).
