Forum Look

Where the hell are people getting purple?
I must be color blind, because I'm seeing blue.

It's like the Adaman Hauberk. Blurple.

Anyways I regret what I said before, I was aparently drunk saying that. Anyways it looks really cool and easier to navigate for me. Only thing messing with me eyes is the color. It's too bright with the white contrast.
And yeah doesnt work well with Widescreen.

I can concede a purple influence in some deeper colors of blue.
But there is no purple influence in this.

I agree. We've gone from a high-functioning forum with ease of use to get to everything you like to get to to a forum that's:
A. Not supporting widescreen
B. Looks like a puzzle trying to be put together.
C. A front page that takes forever and a day to load because of the amount of content.

A. What I am trying to fix.
B. Right now, it kinda is.
C. Right now it is slow because of all the rehashing I think... I hope.

Personally I liked the old forum face much better. Easier and a bit less intense to look at.

....what in the bloody hell happened to the front page? I think I'm just going to bookmark every single forum I use and just use my damn bookmarks, this is ridiculous.

Edit: And now it's all gone again. Good.

So use your bookmarks. The Front Page is what I am trying to get to display the Forum, not the bloody modules. I know you're capable of realizing that I'm changing stuff right now -- deal.

Anyways, I've reversed my changes until I can get ahold of Reeve. I need permission's access before I integrate the homepage into a left hand navigation site that utilizes widescreen to it's potential.

I dont know about you guys, but I like being surprised every time I go back to the homepage.

I'ts like christmas every couple minutes or so!

The glory of your statement being that we can add new pages to the navigation where you can get your fair share of posted modules.

I want to get a page that lists a Dynamis Scheduling calendar.
I want a page to display Fanart work.
I want a page to display the RL pictures.
Reeve may want a page with active blog links.

I'm sure there are more we can add, but those are the three that spring out at me.

I'm not trying to knock you but the way it was set up just looked way too busy. Some intarweb message board advice from someone who runs one of the most popular ones on the net:

-If you want to run a dynamis scheduling calendar, make a small widget that only displays today's runs. It could either display the first post in the day's topic made by Audino or could be specially written and just had everything added manually (make dino do it, he needs more work to do). Have a small link at the bottom that says "More" or something that just takes you to the scheduling board. Trying to post every schedule on the front page looks awful and forces everyone who doesn't care about dynamis to have to look at it.

For fanart, some people might be uncomfortable having their work on the front page. You should make an actual submission system where people can opt to have their work displayed there then just have it rotate through the submissions. Limit it to one or two per reload for browsing speed/sanity. Same thing with RL pics.

Not sure what the push is for blogging but what I would personally suggest would be to have a blog section added to the bottom under the forum links (ideally right above that gaudy box which should also be moved back to the bottom) where it displays the first few lines of the first few most recent posts with a "More" link to view the whole thing.

Good advice, and thank you.

I figure if the fanart had been posted here, they would be ok with it on the front page. However, the submission system (aka, a post in the fanart section) would make it much easier to choose what is available to view in the module.

The blogs are for Reeve. Besides, they are fun.

Gaudy box will be moved back to the bottom if I understand Reeve's recent posts. If I can get the left hand navigation up the blog module can go there -- but I need more power to do it.

I don't want to see everyone's real life mug on the front page :(

It's going to look like friggin facebook soon

Last bit and this is personal preference so you can ignore it, but I like to have the "business end" of the content as close to the left side of the page as possible. Unless it's a small navigational menu over on the left, I prefer seeing the relevant page items (in this case meaning the list of forums) on the left and then the widgets and extras on the right. That ensures that things are optimal for all browsers and resolutions. It's a bit of an obsolete ideal, but it's still a good web design practice.

Edit - Sample layout of what I'm talking about, 30 secs in mspaint cause I'm busy working etc.

I'm trying to get rid of that. If I get my way, there will be a seperate page with this content.

Navbar is the primary idea for the left hand side. The issue I have with your simple design are board breaking images hiding the right hand navigation.

You need to resize images on the front page. Like, regardless of the layout. You have to be in control of the layout completely or it's going to become a mess regardless of where you post them. Even if the image looks worse on the front page, it's better than the layout going to pot when people can easily just click the image to see what it's supposed to look like. With my sample layout, it's assumed that the displayed images would be resized to keep the layout from screwing up.

For the left side, the navbar will need to be really skinny or it's going to be cluttered. It's hard for me to see the merit of a left navbar for a forum that's as simple as ours, especially when we already have a top navbar. I guess I just need to see what you plan to put there for it to make more sense. I don't know what content you want to add that wouldn't look better with an adaptation of what I suggested with that image and keeping the forum list flush to the left side.

I am using Nightshift and whenever I click on the auction board it switches to the new forum for that board only.

edit: It isn't a huge problem for me. Really could care less as I don't really check the auction board but figured I would let you know in case anyone else has this problem in the future.
